Commanders Portis officially placed on IR

Are you serious? Why?

In the three way trade they made for Duckett, whoever has the highest pick between Denver and Washington has to switch with the other team if I remember it correctly...

So if Wasington has the #8 and Denver has #27, then they have to swap. If Denver had the #12 and Washington the #18, then they have to switch...

It was confusing...

It all goes back to the Duckett deal. There was a clause in there that would have involved switching first round picks if the Commanders had a higher one than Denver.

However, there was apparently some clause in there that would prevent the swap happening if the Commanders pick was decent (I don't think anyone knows the specifics). So actually, the Commanders will likely end up hanging on to their first rounder this year.

I only think that happens if both teams finish with a pick below 20.. I don't think they would swap a #8 for a #27.. but if the skins end at 20 and denver at 30.. then they would swap.. I think, that is a confusing trade, but I think there is a clause that prevents a very high for a very low.. swap.

he went on IR for a broken hand?? Something that takes 2-4 weeks at most to heal? Something don't seem right here.

After our bye week, Owens didn't miss a game.

I wonder if the Commanders will get the chance to score anymore TD's this year.

Probably not.

Regarding the Broncos and Redsk*ns swapping First Round Picks:

The swap only occurs if they are within a few slots of each other.

Basically, the trade assessed a "Draft Point Value" to Duckett, as determined by the draft value chart. The Broncos can recoup those points in a number of ways, most likely through a third round pick this year and a fourth the next. Or a third rounder this year and a swap in the first round of a few places.

But under no circumstances will the Redsk*ns have to give up the #1 pick for the #20 pick -- or anything similar to that.

I think the point value assessed to Duckett was somewhere around 450 points or something like that.

Anyway, it's kind of complicated, but also rather clever.

In any case it was a horrible trade for the Skins since they haven't used Duckett at all this year, he's a free agent next year, and now that they need him, they're already out of the running.

This just has not been a very happy season for Mr. Portis. Actually, Betts is their 3rd down guy anyway.

Oh well, I Hope he heals soon and gets back out there - he's an exciting runner. Dawkins will be waiting ...

I still haven't seen this on any of the sports site or heard it on ESPN radio.

It definitely doesn't bode well for him. Jones and Barber actually running well helps Romo more than most people realize.

and Jones and Barber run well because of TO

Regarding the Broncos and Commanders swapping picks:

The trade was for the equivalent of an early third round pick, worth about 250 points. If the Skins finish in the top 5 or so, the Broncos would most likely get the Skins' third round pick. If the Skins draft around 10th, the Broncos might get the third rounder and the 2008 4th rounder (Skins have no 4th rounder in 2007). Only if the Skins draft in the high teens would the first round swap occur, assuming that Denver drafts near 30th.

XXX is their official flagship station, so if they're reporting it (which I haven't heard first hand) then it's probably legit.

Me neither.

Color me very skeptical at the moment.

All of you that are happy about the state of the Commanders need to get your heads checked.

They need to win some of their remaining divisional games to help out our playoff hopes.

With a new QB and no Portis, the Giants and Eagles will get a leg up on us as they should win against the Commanders easily.

The lastest report from XXX ESPN radio is that he COULD be placed on IR because of his hand and shoulder. As of now, only out 3-4 weeks.
