Dan Snyder, is a businessman and one of the best in the world. He takes a team that finishes mediocre at best and dreadful at other times and still turns a huge profit in the process. He clearly knows how to run a successful BUSINESS but not a successful FOOTBALL TEAM. With all the big money moves he's made over the years, you would think the Commanders would have a top5 payroll.......
BUT in 2008, the Raiders had the highest payroll and one of the worst records, the Cowboys finished a distant second and again, no playoff berth, other teams included in the list were:
Saints; Vikings; and Browns
None of them with records to justify the payroll in any sane persons opinion. This is whats so baffling about Dan Snyder, he spends the money, but where does it show up (in a dufflebag in the trunk of the players car)? Upon further research, I've found that within the NFC East over the last 3 seasons our payrolls were as follows: expressed in millions-
Dallas-146-107-113= $366mill
Wash.-112-127-110=$349mill
Phi.-109-100-104=$313mill
NY. -115-75-108=$298mill
Based on these numbers, we see that there is no corelation between hi payrolls and winning records, the Giants have averaged the lowest of the division yet they have the most recent Superbowl win, followed closely by Philly who has been the perrenial division winner every year barring the last 2 seasons of course.
So, while making mega deals may not be the way to build a successful TEAM, it has turned the Commanders into a successful BUSINESS. ( I will post some info on top earning teams at a later date). In the end, it's the fans who suffer!
