Commanders Sign T. Vincent

He started charging fans to watch training camp practices.

The funiest thing about that was that opposing teams could send their scouts over and watch their practices at the cost of like $10.

Teams are not allowed to send scouts to other teams TC's....The only way they are allowed is if they charge, whcih he did. Seems like he didn't know that rule and thought he was outsmarting the rest of the leauge by making an extra few bucks on his fans...

What a nerd.

What idiots the Commanders are. Didn't Troy Vincent's release have something to do with an past injury? :lmao2:

I thought he failed a physical or something with the Bill's, causing them to release him. I don't know... but I guess the Skins needed more depth.

The Bills wouldn't have been able to cut him last week if he were injured. Do any of you REALLY believe that a pro team would sign a player who wasn't physically able to play? Come on now.

Since you learned your debate skills over there I guess you'd know.

It is fun to bash the skins.

However, since Snyder took over, he's turned them into the most valuable NFL franchise.

Also, in case folks forgot, his team went deep in the playoffs last year while we were licking our wounds. We can make fun all we want, but they've certainly had more success than us recently.

Did you just use the term deep in the playoffs casually because they actually won a wild card game or are you serious and you consider winning a wild card game then being eliminated in the divisional round "deep in the playoffs"?

abersonic, did you not read the article?

"Vincent spent the 2006 preseason with Buffalo, but suffered a hamstring injury in training camp that forced the Bills to place him on injured reserve, ending his season.

Last week, the Bills released Vincent upon his request."

They signed Vincent because Wright, Rumph and Archuleta are all horrible... and Carlos Rogers isn't much better. They really have troubles in that secondary and frankly, getting Springs back healthy isn't going to be enough to help them very much.

Troy should help them some, but he isn't nearly the same player he was, even two years ago. He's smart, but he's lost a lot of his ability... which is why he was moved to safety. Still, Archuleta's cover skills are so horrific that having Vincent there will be an upgrade.

Their secondary is just killing that defense. They can't blitz because the DB's are so bad in coverage... and they can't generate a pass rush with that front four (Andre Carter anyone) because they lack any talent whatsoever outside of Griffin, who is nicked up. So opposing QB's have a lot of time to pick apart a secondary that isn't good enough to cover even with a good pass rush.

Vincent is like putting a band-aid on a severed limb, IMO.

Right. Vincent was on IR. However What abersonc was talking about is that if the Bills hadn't drafted a couple of safeties that they liked, they probably wouldn't have put Troy on IR to begin with because his injury wasn't bad enough to keep him out all year. Which is why Vincent was upset and wanted out of Buffalo.

Still, counting on a guy as old as Troy to come back 100% from any injury is only something a team as desperate as Washington would do.

IOW, Vincent may help them... but only because their secondary is in such pitiful condition.

Brilliant analysis. Guy hasn't played a down yet and its a failed move.

Excuse me for trying to bring some rationality to this thread -- statements like those above make it clear that it is far too late for that.

Excuse me for not being clearer: it is a failed move by the mere fact it was done. To be clearer: regardless of how Vincent plays, the move by the Commanders shows that they still believe that hiring a "name" free agent to a contract to play over youngsters in the hopes of winning now is a failure of the organization. They have operated under the assumption that the way to make a winning team is to look around for name free agents and pay them big, regardless of whether they are still viable or needed.

Vincent might improve their secondary marginally this season (or he might not do a damn thing). But the sheer act that they did that shows that they still haven't learned their lesson. The organization will continue to be a failure as long as the teams think they can sign a championship team through free agency.

That is why it is already a failed move. It has nothing to do with Vincent.

Well, everyone and their mothers have been saying that you cannot win that way, however, it goes in one ear and out the other with Snyder!

Oh...and what youngsters? I don't pay attention to their roster, but, they can't have to many youngsters because they are always giving their draft picks away!

But, they deserve it...as far as I'm concerned...

its probably a good signing but it just makes them look stupid for signing Adam (cant cover to save his life) Archuletta to a record contract. LOL maybe the worst signing ever, it was obvious that it was a horrible move when they did sign him but now its official

If he signed with Washington then the poor man is destined to fade into further obscurity.

I laughed so hard this offseason where the guys at ExtremeSkins were having a serious argument whether Adam A. was the best safety in the league or whether Sean Taylor was. They were all convinced that, without a doubt, those were top two in the league. They were just trying to figure out who was #1 and who was #2.

So freaking delusional....

Meaning he is physically ready to play. If he weren't guess what? He'd stay on IR.

Yes, exactely....for the worse run franchise ever! This is just another free agent knowing JUST WHERE the cash cow is...that's all!

Like I have said before, there HAS TO BE some sort of clique in the NFL among players and coaches alike...that if you are at the end of your deal...give Snyder a call! You need some BIG cash quick...call Snyder and you ARE IN! Especially if you have a name behind you. It dosen't matter how hurt you are, or how old you are...if you have a name that he recognizes from his youth...the money is yours! Deion hooked himself up with about 8 mill, IIRC...!
