Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will become a $100 million man with the Washington Commanders on Friday barring any last-minute complications, according to his agent.

Haynesworth agreed to terms on a 7-year, $100 million deal contract offer from the Commanders on Friday morning when free agency began. He is scheduled to travel to Washington, D.C. on Friday. If everything is approved with the contract and he passes a physical, a press conference should be scheduled for later in the day.

The contract includes $41 million in guaranteed money, according to sources familiar with the situation. The base value of the contract could max out at around $115 million. Haynesworth is scheduled to earn $32 million over the first 13 months of the deal.

It will make him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.

For Haynesworth, it also officially puts an end to his 7-year career with the Titans.

The former University of Tennessee star earned All-Pro honors in his final two seasons with the team, and had a career-high 8.5 sacks in 2008. He was a 1st round draft pick by the Titans back in 2002.

The Titans were interested in re-signing Haynesworth, but in the end refused to get into a bidding war with other teams for his services. Agent Chad Speck negotiated the deal, and also talked to a number of other teams, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also being involved until the end.

The Titans final offer was in the $11 million per year range, according to sources, which would have made him the NFL's highest paid defensive tackle.

Haynesworth, the team’s franchise player last season, earned free agency by hitting incentives placed in his one-year contract last July.

The Titans are already exploring back-up plans for defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

Not long after the free agency period opened on Thursday night, the Titans contacted the agent for former Cowboys defensive lineman Chris Canty.

Canty is scheduled to visit the Commanders on Friday, and the Titans are up next, according to agent Brad Blank. He's initially scheduled to visit Baptist Sports Park on Saturday.

"A lot, obviously, revolves around where Haynesworth ends up,'' Blank said. "So we're playing it by ear.''

Canty started 48 straight games for the Cowboys during the last three seasons. The Virginia product had 3 sacks in 2008.

I hope jerry dosen't feel the need to make a big splash because the deadskins are throwing around all this loot. We all know the deadskins love being the offseason super bowl champs.

BWAHAHAHA

Ridiculous money to give to anyone other than a QB. And even then you better have a Tom Brady, Peyton Manning type QB as well.

The Commanders always had a decent defense. Someone should memo to them they need to improve their stagnate offense.

Well Gurode owned him last time they played so we are OK anyway.
And they have got to be counting on a uncapped year to do those contracts. Wonder what happens if the NFL and NFLPA do sign a deal after all?

Good for them. Congrats Skins.

Now move this to the NFL Section and continue with the Cowboys talk in the Cowboys Zone.

That's what makes it even more funny. They had a top 5 defense last year. Defense was the least of their worries. But in 6 hours they have spent $150 million on two defensive players while they still host one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

I know we give Jerry a hard time around here, but at least we don't have Danny boy. If we did, I would never visit a Cowboys board again for fear of all the new curse words and phrases I would have to see.

It's probably heavily backloaded so it won't matter.

If the want to spend that kind of money for 24 sacks in 7 years (just about $4.16 mil a sack, I sure hope Ware don't expect that) let them. Even when we played the Titans Haynesworth was never a player that first came to my mind that we need to stop. There is a reason he stomped on Gurodes head and it's because he was aggravated. Gurode was handing him his lunch all day.

The best thing about this is that the Skins will probably have to release some players now, including Springs.

Thank God that Snyder never learns.

Make no mistake about it. Haynesworth is the best defensive player in the NFL. The Titans were able to stop the run with 7 people and only rush 4 because of Haynesworth. Its an insane contract but that doesn't mean the guy is not a force. He's not the same player as he was 3 years ago. No one can single block him.

I only hope Canty, assuming the Titans sign him, fits better in the Titans penetrating style of defense that what he did in Dallas as a 3-4 end.

Your right, it was a contract year. He was motivated.

I really don't think he's the best defensive player in the NFL. I mean good for the Skins but they are not getting the player they think they are getting.

Obviously they are going to release springs. He is going to count 6 million towards our cap hit this year, and is NEVER healthy. When he said that he wasnt going to restructure, it basically sealed his fate.

Also, didn't he have some "issues" when Gibbs was coaching a couple years ago with the Skins coaching staff?

I'll take him right now.
