As long as there will be a "next year" Washington or any other team that likes to sign players aggressively will be fine. Some years you borrow more against the future than in others, and these "go for it" years should coincide with actually having a shot. It's a little like doubling in blackjack, you try to do it when you've got 11.

I agree.

But we are going to "go for it" due to our HC only being around for 1-2 more years. Granted, we aren't in the 5-11 stages, but I don't believe we are a couple of FA's away either. But I'm sure we'll bring in some more of BP's former players to go along with his current former players like Bledsoe, Key and Terry and we'll put our eggs in one basket trying to make a run before BP retires, even though we aren't holding 11.

Its been said before but I'll say it again, who cares ---When we beat the skins I want it to be because no matter who, what or how much--we lined up and kicked their butts....I Don't think it a continuing issue how much they have or don't have --Lets put together
a team that beats who ever---What counts is -we have the money:D

For the time being, the Skins got saved by the bell of the new CBA (their plan all along) but if there is a career-ending injury to one of the players with a large cap amount, that will force the entire amount into the then current year and that could present some problems, as could a spate of injuries where they have to add new players. They may have dodged a bullet and have some cap room for now, but they will also have less money available than most other teams and not be able to bid as high as others for the services of elite players. They'll pick up another 7 mil next year, but so will everyone else.

Sooner or later, the credit card bill has to be paid and in time the teams all have the same budget, but the team with the most debt will be operating at a disadvantage against those with less debt. Two plus two will always equal four unless you are traveling at near light speed.

a big injury could kill the team that has all the cap room in the world.

Do they need to add a bunch of players? No.

Does cap room and adding a mess of players mean you can buy chemistry also? No. It takes time.

Keep in mind that the cap will be going up another 7 million in 2007. Plus the fact they are taking the Arrington hit this year and that number will be off their books next year.

Not sure what the other restructures will make 2007 look like. But this year I think they will be fine.

Lets just worry about our house.

The great thing is, that they don't need to do a ton of shopping. Just a couple of free agents really, and then depth.

Just trying to read the tea leaves here. You mean, the Skins don't need to improve (except for "a couple free agents") in order to go to the Super Bowl?

let me rephrase.

Time playing together under the same coaching staff is more important that switching out the parts at this point. Are they contenders? I don't know. I still don't think anybody in the NFC is ready to go up against the Indy's, Pittsburgh's, NE's, etc.

But, do I think Washington has enough now to compete in the Division and maybe conference? Yep. When was the last time a team needed to totally rehaul, and that got them over?

I don't think anyone here is advocating overhaul. Certainly not I. But I think year over year improvement is essential to Super Bowl contention. Coaching is important, no doubt, but talent wins games, and if your competition acquires more talent year over year than you do, all the $3 mil. coordinators in the world aren't going to help. If Washington doesn't significantly upgrade their offense, they have no hope of making it to the big game. And that takes more than "just a couple free agents" (unless your couple free agents are Hutchinson, Bentley and Owens).

If we were overhauling the team, and adding a mess of FA's. It would mean we've got a ways to go before contending.

enough talent?? More like luck! Your offense was just that, offensive, the last few weeks of the season. You better hope they improve!

I agree.

But, they found a way to win. The team was counted out early and rallied. Can't deny that.

They won their fair share of close games, and lost some very close ones also.

But....they didn't quit.

Not to mention, a higher total offense ranking that a certain Dallas team. So, I would think we both need to work on that. Don't you?

the last few weeks of the season they were without randy thomas with ray brown and cory raymer playing.

I never got caught up in the whole Commanders cap hell thing because I never wish ill on someone else for my own gain "Bad Karma", but for you to come in here and gloat about the myth of Commanders cap hell is hysterical. The Commanders were saved at the bell, plain and simple you were in trouble and got bailed out at the end and lets be truthful your team has no depth and is aging rapidly, your window of opportunity is closing in the next 2 years and pushing all of these contracts into future will hurt you when you have to rebuild.

I do not mind other teams fans coming in and giving some other perspective but its amazing how many ES people are brave enough to come in know because they finally beat us this year where were you folks the last several years when we owned your behinds.

When you stay really, really healthy for most of the season... had the Cowboys enjoyed the same kind of health, they would also have been able to make some noise in the playoffs...

Be honest now, when was the last time you remember the Skins being that healthy through the majority of the season?? They put Brandon Noble on IR early in the season (he'd already missed all of camp), then the next player going on IR was Patten after game 9, then the next Skin to go on IR was Randy Thomas, after he broke his leg against the Cowboys in game 14...

Contrast that to the Cowboys who lost four freakin' LINEBACKERS in the course of the season... they had to go out and sign Quinton Caver in November, and Michael Barrow in December, they'd been so devastated at linebacker... and of course, they lost their Pro Bowl left tackle in game 6...

Yes, you had enough talent among your starters to get to the second round of the playoffs... but we saw how quickly their play dropped off at the end of the season and in the playoffs when the injuries mounted up, which shows quite clearly that you did NOT have enough talented DEPTH to be serious playoff contenders...

If we were overhauling the team, and adding a mess of FA's. It would mean we've got a ways to go before contending.

That's an illogical statement, given that the Boys were THIS close to playoff contention, and will be adding a mess of FA's...

Let me sum it up this way for you-- if you're REALLY content with the lack of quality depth on your team, you're welcome to field the same one next year... I'm bettin' you guys won't be quite so fortunate on the injury front, and that lack of quality depth will result in your favorite team struggling rather badly toward the end of the season...

Apparently not as much as you Skins fans love our Cowboys; there are no fewer than six of you in this thread alone... and none of you are what I'd call trolls, you just seem to be Skins fans... yet here you are, hanging out in "enemy" territory...

I can assure you that you won't find ME hanging out on any Skins boards...

and if you're content gambling on chemistry. Then I'll just wish you good luck.

We had our fair share of injuries. They were just very low compared to the past few years. We lost Rogers for a number of games, Springs for a few. Lavar wasn't right until later in the season. Patten, Thrash, Jacobs, Brunell, Randy Thomas all missed time for injuries, and Sean Taylor missed the 1st Tampa game because he was hurt. Griffin missed a few games. Wynn broke him arm.

I agree, you were "This close". But, you just could have easily lost that San Fran and KC games. Or won the 1st Washignton game and against Seattle.

So..... what you're saying is. you need health AND good fortune. Like every other team in the league.

Give me a real #2 WR, 1 outside LB with some depth along the lines and secondary...and I'll be happy with that offseason.
