Impressive drafting by the Seahawks. Efficient use of salary cap. Building a top defense through the draft and avoiding big contracts. These things are apparently possible.

Try these numbers again when those guys are off their rookie contracts.

This post makes no sense.

both seattle and sf will be different teams with the talent watered down in a year or two after they have to pay their qb's.

Wait till seattle has to pay Sherman, Thomas and Wilson.

The Seahawks are in deep crap in about two years I'm going to bet... I haven't looked at their contract lengths of these young stud players they have but I'm sure it's all about to take it's hit. You can't resign everybody.

I'm not sure what you're getting at? Romo got market value, though in a couple years Seahawks will be losing most of those players due to cap.

The post makes perfect sense... Seahawks knows what wins in the NFL and the Cowboys don't.

I know, right

It is nice to win with youth especially when the young are cheap and less likely to be injured. Every once in a while some teams get to enjoy that. Most of the time it has a lot to do with luck. It never lasts though. Would Kaepernick even be playing in SF today if Alex Smith didn't get a concussion?

Unfortunately, the high priced Cowboy vets failed miserably this year. Yeah, that's Ware, Romo, and Carr. That is way too much money to have riding on those three. In hindsight, it was a huge mistake paying a few vets so much and killing the cap. It will take a while to fix. We can can Ware now, Romo after the 2014 season, and Carr after the 2015 season.

Point is they are rookie contracts.......rather than Ratliff, Hatcher, Ware, Lee, Church, Carr, Spencer......all old and out of there rookie contracts. Guys we have to hold onto way too long, and guys we extended before there current contracts were up. These are all guys that got great contacts because of our lack of drafting skills and nobody to push these guys out the door, or challenge them.

1 more year and they will have to re up Wilson, see how that goes for them. Right now he's in yr 2 or a 4 yr rookie contract as a 3rd rnd selection. 1 more yr and they will have to resign him for big bucks. 9'ers will most likely have to sign Kap for big bucks after this season is done as he is in yr 3 of his rookie contract as a 2nd rounder. Right now they are both cheap as dirt...that will be coming to an end shortly.

You can selectively pick and choose bargains on any team. A list with Tyron Smith, Frederick, Leary, Murray, T.Williams, etc.. would look great for the Cowboys.

The top 3 defenders for Seattle have a combined cap hit of over 20M.

DE Chris Clemons $8,166,667
DE Red Bryant $7,600,000
DT Brandon Mebane $5,200,000

Total for 3 players: $20,966,667

This is silly. Romo is on his 3rd NFL contract.....most of those guys are still on their 1st rookie contract. I'm telling you right now when Richard Sherman's contract is up? HE alone will be making more than 17 million a year. Earl Thomas too. I won't even factor in the rest of the guys. Just Chancellor, Thomas and Sherman alone will be over 50-60 million per year if they are going to be retained. That's not even factoring in Browner.

The way you guys reach in order to make Jerry look more incompetent that what he already is........its truly astonishing. You don't have to reach to do it.

Defensive philosophy is smart and allows them to have a low cap number on defense. They go after big corners that the rest of the league doesn't want because they are not 'cover corners.' Then they went after Earl Thomas early in the first round and he's arguably the best safety in the league. Kam Chancellor was a 4th round pick that stuck and they pay him nicely for a safety.

In the end..

Big Corners + Great Safeties = far cheaper than 'Cover Corners' + average to mediocre safeties

And with their big corners, they can get physical at the LOS, tackle when the ball is caught on short passes and win jump-ball situations on deep passes because they are 5-6" shorter than a taller wide receiver.
