Impressive drafting by the Seahawks. Efficient use of salary cap. Building a top defense through the draft and avoiding big contracts. These things are apparently possible.

They landed Sherman for 600K? How?

You can selectively pick and choose bargains on any team. A list with Tyron Smith, Frederick, Leary, Murray, T.Williams, etc.. would look great for the Cowboys.

The top 3 defenders for Seattle have a combined cap hit of over 20M.

DE Chris Clemons $8,166,667
DE Red Bryant $7,600,000
DT Brandon Mebane $5,200,000

Total for 3 players: $20,966,667

Saw that. I basically quoted the article numbers so that was a good point as these were omitted. Still, count up all the sacks for those three and it totals 6. You could suit up a great D without those three.

It's a nonsensical comparison.

You could compare Dez's contract with some veteran WR on his 2nd contract and conclude that the Cowboys are great because Dez is really cheap.

When they have to pay up, they'll have new guys coming through the draft with cheap contracts. Drafting and mortgaging your cap well is something the Jones's have no clue about.

Try these numbers again when those guys are off their rookie contracts.

This post makes no sense.

both seattle and sf will be different teams with the talent watered down in a year or two after they have to pay their qb's.

Wait till seattle has to pay Sherman, Thomas and Wilson.

And that's a problem?

Their rookie contracts are the key to winning.

Like the Patriots, 49ers, the Ravens and other top teams have learned..

..you don't overpay for performance before it is received..

and when the player exceeds his cap slot..

..hes replaced.

These other teams have mastered the salary cap and the draft.

We have no clue.

Our owner and his son now run the team like they are PT Barnum and have the biggest show on earth in AT&T Stadium

If the fans will pay..the same show will go on.

When the fans truly tire of the bull..

..this Franchise is going to crash and burn like it did pre-Jimster.

Um. You missed the entire point.

They haven't had to pay Wilson yet. And Sherman and Thomas also are in that mix.

Once they do they won't have a roster constructed the way it is now.

They won't be able to add a Percy Hardin and burn a first round pick, sign cliff Avril or Michael Bennett on one year deals. Their just wont be cap space.

If you look at Dallas, ny, Atlanta this is the problem they all have. Ton of money tied up in qb's and older defensive players with big numbers.

It's how the league is now. Only the really skilled front offices like Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Baltimore and New England can continuously build their roster like this and if you look at the chaos the flacon contract caused the ravens this year you will see it immediately. Think they wouldn't like to have boldin or some of the other players that left.

I realize this thread was an attempt to bash Romo, but it does speak volume to the Seahawks ability to evaluate talent, get the best market value on free agents, and use their players to the best of their abilities.

I wish our team was able to do that. I agree that Romo's cap number is a bit high given his past performances, but that's just the way the NFL is nowadays. Wilson will be getting a fat contract once his rookie deal is up, and probably sooner if they win the Super Bowl this year.

I'd love it if Romo was able to be restructured or willing to take a pay cut, same goes for Ware, Austin, Carr, and Lee. Lee is great, but has never played a full season.

The Seahawks have hit on just about all of their draft picks and free agent signings as of recent years. Jerry needs to realize that while he's the best owner in terms of business, he doesn't have the best eye for talent.

Sherman will be the highest paid corner in the league as soon as that contract is up.

Edit, well maybe the 2nd highest paid after Mo gets his! :p

Revisit these thoughts in a year or two, genius, and see how many actually still play for the Seahawks.

This is eye opening. It also kills me that we missed out on Russell Wilson and we are stuck with an aging, over-the-hill Tony Romo.

Frankly..

when Romo emerged after that failure that was Bledsoe..Preceeded there by Quincy Carter..

I never really thought of him as a long term answer..

..the heavy commitment to him..

..even after Parcells labeled him a "coach killer"

and left the team so abruptly..

sent so many red flags up but all have been ignored..

..we since had our cap swallowed up by him..

his repeated failures late in the season that leaves us out of the playoffs every year..

..and now he's developed injuries that effected his play and now the back thing..

The subject of Romo divides this fan support only exceeded by Jones himself.

Okay....so everyone is saying....yeah but those are all rookie contracts. They are doing this without having to pay these guys. Just wait a couple of years.

So...where is our recent year- or years- where we had tons of young guys and made the NFC Championship game? If Seattle can do it, we, theoretically, should be able to do it as well. I swear, there is always an excuse for this poorly run organization.

another team succeeds: yeah but they did it because..........
another team has a fast turn around: yeah but they turned it around only because......
a team keeps going back to the playoffs: yeah but they only make it because........

On this board there are an awful lot of excuses as to why another team can do something, while Dallas cant.
