Connor Williams

Check the thread where each play is broken down.
If you get beat and your guy is in your backfield 8 times out of 33 snaps then you played poorly.
Check PFF and see how they also said he played poor both games. If your getting beat by your man this badly every 4th snap then it’s a problem. It’s not just about not clearing your lane or hole. I’m talking about your man in our backfield quickly.
Point Blank PERIOD!!!:hammer:

Yes maybe Looney, with Looney starting the OL would really be in trouble depth wise. Looney is the first off the bench for center and both guard spots. The injury to Marcus Martin is really hurting right now.
Agreed

Williams showed some good stuff at times but he clearly lacks consistency.

Hopefully that comes with time and experience.

As some were saying we can't expect him to immediately be an all-pro. For this season if he's an average og that's ok as he works to improve his strength and technique.

Trial by fire? I’d bet Dak begs to differ.
When Williams is playing with the ones and we're actually game planning for a team , he'll be fine. I'm just not worried. On the td drive yesterday he did fine.

I hate saying this but Connor Williams gets beat on so many plays. Last week was bad and people just assumed it was jitters....then tonight he was beaten by his man on way too many plays in the passing and running game.

I think it’s becoming a concern.
We all know he looks small for a guard. I’m not sure if he is playing out of position or if maybe he just isn’t very good at this point and may be a liability this season.

We may have assumed since we hit on so many OL in recent years that we would hit on this one as well.

Thoughts?

well, I thought Conner held his own vs Gino, was kinda impressed, but I don't consider myself an OL guru

IMO, we can live and win with what we saw from Conner last night ,,, its Fleming and Green the worry me

No. He didn’t do fine. He’s getting punked out there. Plain and simple. Whether he’s with the ones or not. He’s a liability right now

I think he’ll be an upgrade over what we have had when it comes to the finesse part of the game.. Things like zone blocking and getting to the 2nd level he’ll be good at.

I also think he figures it out when it comes to stopping the bull rush.

I just don’t know if he’ll be a mauler type and someone we can depend on when we need a yard.

He’s basically where Taco was a year ago but I worry how high his ceiling is because he was already a weight room junkie.

I get it, but the kid needs time, weight, muscle, power. Not going to happen in the next month.

Williams lacks power, but brings excellent movement, smarts, and agility.

We've generally gone big and lumbering at LG. Now we're light and nimble. We'll scheme toward his strengths.

Better to have a guy who gets run over than run past. At least the guy getting run over slows the defender some.

You're right.

Some of the problem isn't strength, but just getting accustomed to the power in the NFL. Also, new position.

He'll get better against the bull rushes this year, even if his power doesn't improve much.

You’re joking, right??? Williams ain’t ready for this yet.

Sorry buddy. But the only way to stop the bull rush is to be strong enough to hold at the point of attack. Williams is not strong enough. As evidenced by the film.

We might be watching the same game, but clearly not interpreting it the same. I saw him make play after play on the td drive.

He only had 2 negative plays in the 1st preaeason game.

I need the review the Bengals game but I don't think he was bad.

I wouldn't worry about it. He's 21, still a baby.

He'll just be entering his prime in 3-4 years.

I remember Larry Allen getting tossed around pretty good at times his rookie season. Give him a few real games first.
