So why are you in this thread reading and posting on something you don't care about. You saw the headline. Just move along.
I can post on any thread anytime I want to.
Just making my point that a possible championship run is far more appealing to discuss than what cap and salary situations loom down the line.

Stop trying to be a gatekeeper.

Can we tag and trade him? I heard there was a no tag clause in his contract but I don’t know that would work if Dak would not have a current contract once this one runs out.

Four things prevent Prescott from leaving the Cowboys-
1) He has a no-tag clause in his contract
2) He has a no-trade clause in his contract
3) Dak Prescott does not want to leave the Dallas Cowboys
4) JERRY JONES does not want Prescott to leave the Dallas Cowboys

If Bland keeps performing the way he has, he’s going to be in line for a mega deal in a few years.

even if they do exit in the divisional rd, if Dak finishes like hes playing now, that is gonna be a 5 year 275+ million dollar deal.
Yeah Dak’s camp will ask for that but if the results are an early exit, Dak won’t get an extension. The Joneses will make Dak play out the contract unless his demands come down. If Dak gets to the NFCCG then he will get the record breaking extension.

This is it in a nutshell......and if there was ever any doubt, he's cleared that up over the last 3-4 weeks.

People keep saying that but do you really believe that Prescott's agents and Prescott himself was gonna allow himself to sign a long term deal that didn't benefit him it would have been short and he would have been up for another contract and this would have again been up for another contract and there wouldn't have been a lot of money saving people who think Jerry could have got Prescott for less didn't realize it wasn't gonna be a long term deal he would have made sure of it just like he did this time that way he's right back in the mix this is how good agents who are lawyers and are money people when they work with superstars have the leverage and use the leverage he was not gonna sign for some peanuts before or after went he might have done a 2 year deal or a three-year deal but he would have wanted to be right back in the money that is how it works that is why you just have to roll with how it is..
No. I meant that Dak could have been signed to a shorter term deal before wentz. Would have been cheaper than what we paid and would have been up before now for the next contract. Would it have been cheaper… Who knows. At some point (maybe this time) he will want that last big contract that’s a longer term deal. I don’t care for the way they deal. Agents having players hold out surgeries or holding out early for a contract but the owners aren’t any better.

They have to keep Tyrone Smith. It feels like they restructured his cap hit so far down the road his grandkids could play under it lol

And 'Hawkeye0202' - since #4 has been tearing it up the last 6 games - the "Can't Extend \Don't Extend \ Mustn't Extend \ Won’t Extend" comments have disappeared from CZ threads.
(Except for 'DuncanIso....he all but guarantees Prescott will be a June 1st cut ...and Trey Lance starts week 1 in 2024.)

So did Aaron Rodgers. Like the way Dak's playing but only reason we can't yield draft picks for him is because Jerry wants him here.

Believe me, when a player is uncomfortable. They start moving and the terms of the current deal loosen up.

When they still have a contract.

So when you draft players, you hope they work out and give you a reason to give them that second contract. But what happens when it works out in Spades? Dak's people are smiling big time right now. He demanded a 4 year deal last contract specifically for the scenario that has developed.

QB pay played out as they wanted. Burrow got paid, Mahomes, Herbert.... they all struck gold. Now Dak is having possibly his best season ever. If Dak continues playing at this level what is his extension going to look like? Im thinking it would look like burrow at the minimum 5 year 275 million? Dak will be 31 years old after the 24 season when that deal expires, so Im guessing they will not want a 4 year deal, but will want to maximize this current contract as it is likely his last when he will hold all the bargaining power, no? Do they go for a 5 year 300 million deal?

Right in there with Dak you now have Cee Dee about to get paid. Whats his deal gonna look like? Then right behind that we got Parsons deal coming and we all know that is gonna likely be the highest paid defensive contract in history.

Oh.... at one point I was positive this was Tyron Smith's last season in Dallas. Uhm.... have you all been paying attention to what he is doing? Isnt he in the last year of his current deal? If he finishes the season actually on the field, we will give him another contract.

At what point do these contracts break the camels back?
Dak has been playing good against bad teams. It would be a mistake to overpay him again. There are some big contracts coming up.... lamb and parsons.

Several big points to consider:
  • This is the kind of problem you want. When several young players break out as stars it’s ALWAYS good.
  • The cap is getting bigger each year.
  • The teams winning SBs the last decade dont seem concerned about the cap. And neither should we.
  • Who cares about next year when you have a great shot to win the SB this year? Let’s worry about next year next year.

This is what’s wrong with the salary cap. Good drafting teams should not be handcuffed like this. Only a percentage of any new contracts for a player that you drafted should count towards the cap. Teams should have a slight advantage to resign their own talent vs. a poor drafting team.
I wish the NFL would do what the NBA does with its “Bird rights” rule. This allows a team to have some cap flexibility with a player who has been with a team 3 or more years without changing teams in FA. It rewards teams that develop players and want to keep them.

Herbert, Jackson, Watson have not had tremendous playoff success, but they garnered huge contracts. Now why would a quarterback that has had as much or more success than those three, and plays for the most valuable sports franchise in the world think he does not deserve as much as those guys are paid?

Parsons, the guy who never shows up in any of these big games, either. He also feasts off the crappy teams. But for whatever reason, he doesn't take the same heat for that as Dak does.

And Dak played very well against Philly, probably the best team in football. He usually plays really good against them. Definitely had a few bad plays in that game and didn't get the win but he definitely didn't suck in that game.

Be careful because after the San Francisco game the noise around the Cowboys was when will Lance get a chance to play. Even the Dak backers in the media thought we would see him play before the end of the season. I expect Dak to get an extension but weird things happen sometimes.

CZers complained for years about not having at least decent players to field a competitive team; but when the FO (courtesy of the scouting department) signs top-quality talent - many then start worrying about their future contracts instead of rooting them on to help get that elusive 6th NFL Title RIGHT NOW = ASAP.
Some Cowboys fans even post threads about trading All-Pro players to get draft picks= ?!?!?!?
