Let's be honest, if the Cowboys traded a 1st and 3rd for Cooks anyone reasonable would be angry. That's totally over paying for the player. He's not Julio Jones.

The Cowboys have much bigger needs than WR. The Pats on the other hand already had the #1 defense in the NFL and just added the best corner in free agency. If they can keep Hightower (which they can afford to), they will have seriously upgraded across the board.

LOL the pats did not have the number 1 defense in the NFL. By DVOA they were 16th.

In this case the Pats are loading up to get that 6th ring with Brady, their doing what they should be doing.... Going for it. If it was the Cowboys making this trade I agree that it would be a bad move as our defense at this point looks even worse than last year and anyone that thinks we fix it and find enough bodies to fill the players we have lost(and yes I know we haven't lost anything great) solely through the draft is kidding themselves IMHO

A made up formula FO won't publicize for fear anyone with actual statistical training will laugh them off the internet, sure.

Fewest points allowed in the NFL is just a fact. Some ranking made up by a random internet goober with a copy of Microsoft Excel can't change that.

People downplayed their D all year, and look how that turned out - they held the best offense in the NFL to 7 points in the second half, 0 points in the 4th quarter. They shut Matt Ryan off like it was flipping a switch.

You really don't think they had the best defense in football do you?

Honestly i'd not be pleased with trading a 1st and a 3rd for Cooks. Would people rather have Cooks who you're about to commit big money to or Fredrick and Williams.

Just for perspective...
Yeah, its a good deal for both clubs. Im sure New Orleans is thrilled.
And Cook was due a big roster bonus as well as not being as big a part of the offense goi g forward.

Btw, it's really close to just being that 32nd pick...so one pick away from a 2nd rounder.

They swapped their late 3rd for the Saints early 4th...just a few slots down.

That certainly makes the deal better. 1st and a 3rd was pretty bad.

I still feel that D's big playmakers, Hightower, Ryan, Butler and Sheard? All gone or on the block. They won't necessarily be the same D either..They could have a Packers like breakdown by not focusing on replacing anyone but Butler.

The pats had a defense that held the best offense in the NFL to minimal gains in the second half of the SB. The Pats have been to 7 SBs and won 5 but they are not sitting on their laurels

They are continuing to strive to get better and added a very good CB and WR to their team

I'm thinking they're pretty satisfied and should be

Meanwhile the team that had win nothing in the last 20 years and got bounced in their first playoff game because of their defensive ineptitude has refused to upgrade and wants to "build through the draft"

In one of the deepest drafts in memory the Pats have traded away a 1st, 3rd, 4th and downgraded their 2nd. You can't knock the rings but maybe the Pats (who haven't drafted as well as people think they do) have decided to minimize their opportunities to make mistakes ha.

And of course it is a bad idea to make fewer mistakes in your world
