I did go out on a limb each time. I stood firm despite the emotions it stirred. I haven't wavered in the slightest. When you see me waver on Garrett's future, pay attention. Or don't. I don't really care one way or the other.

I'm pretty confident in what I've shared.

Please. People may have hoped that Garrett would get fired but it's a far cry from actually believing he would in his second full year as HC. People knew we were stuck with Garrett despite their hope when Payton was available. That's not going out on a limb because you stood firm on a guy you've been pimping. I stand firm on Romo despite some calling him a choke artist and calling for his head. He won't be cut this year; believe it if you want and I don't care one way or another if you don't. I guess that makes me a sage.

my goodness, it's a picture...who cares who he (jones) has in there with him? perhaps he thought to invite tony, Jason, demarcus as a "thank you" for their service? perhaps just wanted to have a little fun and invited people that PERHAPS the former president's enjoyed watching?

the people complaining about this kill me...GET OVER IT....where is all of the disdain and vitriol for not having Jimmy Carter in there? Hell, he had two other presidents, they must have been his favorites!!!!

I look at the picture and just think, THAT IS COOL! I don't have to read into it...spears JUST got a gig somewhere (I can't remember where) and he is likely trying to drum up business for himself to get people watching...I think he finally wants to see if fans give a rats*** about him....

Jerry doesn't value head coaches as much as some other owners and the couple of years remaining on Garrett's contract was enough to keep him as HC. You made a good point?and good post.

It's not like Jerry hasn't told us a hundred times one of his biggest regrets was firing Chan Gailey when he did (too soon). And this was a couple of years ago. So excuse me for not buying into Garrett staying as some sort of inside revelation.

Reference was made in the reply chain to 2012.
2012 and 2013 = "last TWO years."

He got the job interim in the middle of 2010.

First FULL Year on job therefore was 2011.

Second FULL year on job was 2012.

Third FULL year on job was 2013.

Or he could just be speaking his mind.

I know you guys like to destroy the character of former players/coaches to protect your chosen ones (Jerry/Jason/Witten/Romo), but the fact is Spears has always been a stand up guy and always had an ear to the locker room. The guy was never distance from his teammates like Romo. Most likely, he is bringing something that he's heard from other players.

C'mon now! Making something out of nothing.

Exactly...the haters are going to hate. I just skimmed through the first few pages. Was about to move on but I just can't see the hatred coming form this. I won't bother reading any further.
Spears is now on my hate list of media idiots. Sour grapes IMO. I expected the negativity from the usual suspects here. All over a picture and who as sitting there.
Maybe other players didn't want to be there, or was with family in the off season. Out of town, who really knows.

Status has its privileges

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

New SEC Network hire and former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears wondered if teammates of Romo and Witten would be upset to see them hanging with the presidents and celebrities.

Status has its privileges in any line of work. Those three have status, especially Witten and Romo, and we don’t know who else was invited to sit in the power suite to see Connecticut beat Kentucky but unable to attend for whatever reason.

Witten and Romo have been with the Cowboys since 2003. Witten has been to the Pro Bowl nine times. He was named the NFL’s Man of the Year in 2012. Romo owns most of the Cowboys’ passing records and has been to three Pro Bowls. Jones has showed his faith in the quarterback by signing him to two big-time contract extensions. Murray is coming off his first Pro Bowl season.

If there are players that are upset, then, well, they’ll just have to get over it. But they should also realize Witten, Romo, who is also rehabbing from back surgery, and Murray have been working out at Valley Ranch well before the official start of the offseason program on April 21.

That is actually a very reasonable, logical, well thought out article overall.

What's your point? The Op I responded to made the following statement: "For the last two offseasons Hostile has confidently said that Garrett wouldn't be fired and he has been correct. I wouldn't go against him on jg's coaching status."

I replied that you didn't go out on a limb claiming he wouldn't get fired after his second full year year (2012). Get a hold of yourself man.......that's not some inside revelation.

For the record, I agree with you...and Archer. There could very well be some saltiness among some of the players, but as Archer says, oh well.

I interpreted Spears' comments alluding more to how the tight friendships between JG, Romo and Witten keep them untouchable in terms of ever taking the fall for failures. We've pretty much only experienced failure here under that regime, yet for some reason or another they always seem to be the guys that come out of the mess clean while everyone else gets thrown under the bus.

Would be hard for me to trust any of those 3 if I were in that locker room, and that's what Spears was saying.

Spears was trying to stir the pot and when he got called out he started to back pedal when there were other players in the box. Spears only knows what he sees and hears 2nd hand. Does he know that jerry did not invite the whole team? Does he know that jerry did not give everyone on the team a pass to the box on different nights. He is a disgruntled player that feels Dallas stole his most productive years, when the guy he should probably be pissed at is BP who turned him into a 3-4 DE. He out to thank Jerry for not drafting him as high as BP wanted otherwise he would have been considered a colossal flop. Personally I find his bias appalling and he is causing waves to get noticed so he can get better assignments.

IIRC I think Jerry used to use his private jet to fly people home for family emergencies. I guess those that lived in and around Dallas felt like 2nd class citizens. I think he even booked charter flights to get people home after the THanksgiving Day game.

He let Ratliff use his private plane when Ratliff's mother passed away, and Ratliff re-paid him by holding out like a jerk, faking an injury, and suiting up for the Bears.

I would not characterize this one way or another. I see several people, well known people I'll give you that, sitting together at some event. To read into it any further than that is a huge leap.

Not mom. Grandparents...after they died in a house fire. But your other points remain the same.
