Man the offseason is agonizingly long. A comment by an irrelevant ex and we are up to 16 pages in this thread.
headbang.gif

This offseason and all of these threads are the result of an upcoming season that doesn't offer much hope. Many positive posters are having doubts about the team's defense and the lack of upgrades. The draft being pushed to a later date seems to make things worse as well.

Quick, someone please name me one team that does not have some kind of player hierarchy? By that I mean a player, or players who are treated especially well by the owner, media, etc.

Don't hurt your heads trying. There is no such thing. Marcus Spears left Dallas and played in Baltimore. He doesn't think Joe Flacco would be invited to sit in his owner's box if the NCAA Finals were there? That's stupid. So would Ed Reed and Ray Lewis and Jonathon Ogden. 32 teams in the NFL would do this.

Why is he freaking out about it then? Because he knows when you talk about the Cowboys, you get noticed. Tony Romo nailed that.

Anyone, whether they are inside (player or employee), outside (fan), or upside down (media) about this franchise, who thinks that it causes some unfixable issue on their team is an idiot. An idiot. AN IDIOT. I said it three times so no one could say I minced words. 32 teams.

This was a fun thread. I hope all the complainers got out their frustrations on a stupid picture. lol

And, what is funny about this to me? Well, posters are using players from years ago to validate their agenda. If only we had the haters running this team, Superbowls galore!

There is actually a long history of several players ,and even Jimmy , that has made similar comments about the culture in Dallas. It just proves the point that there is some validity to this and it is not some wild ideal that the media or fans has come up with.

I was thinking the same thing. We can laugh at everybody that says something negative about our Cowboys, we can criticize them, put them down and make fun of them, .. and basically brush off everything they say.

But there is something wrong in Dallas, (our .500 record and playoff absence prove it) ... so sooner or later we need to listen to someone.

WV Cowboy, this is the best post that I have read on this site in a long time. Not only does it apply to this thread, but it applies to all threads that contains any criticism of this organization. It is not a matter of posters being negative or positive. It is a matter of the results on the field that proves that there is a problem with this team that has not been addressed.

And you're ok with that?

There is a fine line between winning and losing in the NFL, .. every 'T' needs crossed and every 'I' needs dotted to attempt to even have a chance of competing and winning.
You may be doing everything right and still not be able to win.

But you can't be " --specifically at the top--can be, at best, a little dysfunctional " and expect to compete against other teams that have all of their ducks in a row.

You know what? You're right! I'm NOT o.k. with that. In fact, I'm going to incessantly whine like a ***** every single day on this very message board regurgitating the same lame *** mantra day after day. Everything sucks in Dallas and damn it I'm going to let everyone know about it right here on the Cowboys Zone. The coaches suck, the general manager sucks, the players suck, the injuries suck, the water boy sucks, the Final Four sucks, luxury suites suck, the culture sucks, the pole dancers suck, the whole damn ball of wax just sucks, sucks, sucks. It all sucks.

I'm going to collect likes like rice collects white around this place (thank goodness there's no "dislikes" button around here).

Romo brushed off Spears’ criticism on Tuesday.

“I think anytime guys are done playing, when they talk about the Cowboys it’s a good thing,” Romo said. “If it helps him, it’s a good thing.”

Wow, that's beautifully passive aggressive. It might even also have the benefit of being sincere.

Apart from Romo's play on the field, you just gotta love the way he carries himself. Whether it's the old days when he's making fun of reporters' haircuts in answers to his questions, to pivots like this that both dig and say something nominally nice at the same time. He's a smart, smart dude.

Passive aggression is generally a terrible way to go about things, but it can be highly effective in some uses. This is one of those rare instances where it was absolutely beautiful.

It's bad for relationships. Great for answering questions from the local press. :)

Some great Romo quotes (and truly bad editing) in that article, by the way.

“I threw five interceptions in one game in ’07 and won a game. We’ll lose by 50 if I do that now,” he said. “That’s just part of a transition that you go through in a career. I don’t think none of that matters to me. You understand it’s about being better, your team getting better. When you lose you’re not very good, when you’re better than you actually are. It’s part of the whole process.”

Romo will also have to get used to playing for a new offensive coordinator in Scott Linehan, who was hired in the offseason after spending 2013 as the OC of the Detroit Lions. Linehan is more known for an offense that focuses more on passing than running.

“I think Scott is fantastic,” Romo said. “I think he’s good. I think if our football team can run the ball we will.”

I don't disagree, but that's a pretty bald assessment of the state of the defense there, and where it's gone since 2007.

Also think the comment re: running the ball means that we'd like to do it more, but are unwilling to do so when we don't believe we can do it effectively. Not the same thing as being pass-happy (and count me as one who's perfectly happy being pass-happy between the 20's). Good stuff.

LOL, .. take a pill, or a nap, .. or something. Put down the Red Bull ! LOL

You accuse me of saying everything sucks, to the point of saying the word 'sucks' 14 times in your post! When I didn't say it once in mine.

Over-react much?

Heck, I thought I wrote a pretty insightful post there, .. just pointing out that we can't knowingly accept disfunction at the top, and then talk about winning in the same breath.

I will stand by that. Winning in the NFL is not easy, especially when it isn't your main focus and you aren't putting your best foot forward.

If you are content watching teams either catch or pass us in Super Bowl wins, while we waller in .500 mediocrity, .. then have at it.

I'm not happy about :
Green Bay winning two Super Bowls since we won one,
Denver Broncos winning two,
New England winning three,
Pittsburgh Steelers winning two,
NY Giants winning two,
Baltimore Ravens winning two,
even the Saints and Seahawks have won their first Super Bowl since we have won one,
holy cow, even Tampa Bay and St. Louis !!

I am not guilty of anything you accuse me of in your ridiculous "tantrum look at me" post, .. but I do know I am not content with the recent history, or the near future of the Dallas Cowboys.

Why am I not shocked that the majority of the board doesn't see this as an issue? Lol show me Tom Brady following belivheck to meet coach k/duke games/ncaa championship games.

That 2007 defense was pretty solid. Championship-capable (I'm trying to move away from the descriptor "championship caliber" since it's far too subjective).

All we can hope is that the continued investment of resources in the defensive front pays off. We have some guys who can contribute, and hopefully make it to the point where Romo is only throwing the ball on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter of games with a lead in order to move the chains. I would love to see Murray get 30 carries a game with 16 of them coming in the 4th quarter.

Ooh! Let me go way out on a limb, here: because you're a pessimist who seems to want to believe the worst about the Cowboys, given a chance.
What do I win?
