That 2007 defense was pretty solid. Championship-capable (I'm trying to move away from the descriptor "championship caliber" since it's far too subjective).

All we can hope is that the continued investment of resources in the defensive front pays off. We have some guys who can contribute, and hopefully make it to the point where Romo is only throwing the ball on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter of games with a lead in order to move the chains. I would love to see Murray get 30 carries a game with 16 of them coming in the 4th quarter.

I don't know. You know I'm an optimist by nature, but I think fixing our DL this offseason is a really tall order. Even getting the WDE we need in the draft--and we're not in a great position in the first round to do that at value--we're still going to be a few players shy of a full complement on defense.

I think we can probably get to 'middling.' Meaning, we'll see more comfortable wins against bad or injured teams, and perhaps win 1-2 of the close games against other competitive-but-not-great teams. But I don't see how we're going to get good enough to beat a real contender (beyond the usual puncher's-chance) in the coming season. That's ok...10-6 and a playoff berth and decent showing would be ok if we're moving forward, generally. But I'd be happier if I could see a path to getting a lot better and really being competitive for 2014.

Nothing because you're wrong.

Rats. What would I have won if I'd been right? Internet approval, maybe? That would have been cool.
Really, though, you do seem like pretty much a giant pessimist. Looking at your recent post history, I guess you do say something nice about Dez Bryant. That's not a dig, by the way...only an observation. You're obviously free to be as sour on the state of the Cowboys as you like.

We don't know who Jerry invited in his suite. My guess is the young guys wanted to be close to the action. They probably had their pick of what seat they wanted. I can't believe we're talking about what player was sitting in Jerry's suite.

If you aren't Dez Bryant or Sean lee (and a few lower level guys like Beasley/Harris/etc) then no, I don't have anything nice to say about them because they don't deserve it. I hope Sean Lee was invited and declined to go. If you can't see the message that picture sends then oh well. Prob the same people who had no issue with those two idiots going to Cabo.

Why am I not shocked that the majority of the board doesn't see this as an issue? Lol show me Tom Brady following belivheck to meet coach k/duke games/ncaa championship games.
The majority of the board has not commented on the thread topic either way. The majority of the board never comments on any topic. Heck, only a small percentage of the board ever posts comments about any given topic within any particular forum at any time.

Just some trivia, bb, Dez was there.

I actually agreed with you, sort of, on the impact of how this pic could be perceived. Generally, though, I don't think we could be any farther apart on how we view and enjoy (or don't enjoy, I guess) following the Cowboys.

The same perceptions applied to the Cabo trip, but, yeah, I had no issue with that whatsoever since it was a private trip in the players' off time and not necessarily connected with the organization in any way. It might have *looked* bad, but the reality was that it was only bad in perception, if at all, and it's really none of anybody's business. Also, it had zero effect on the outcome of the game. Also, Romo and Witten are not idiots.

Well, that's random. I like Dez and Harris, too. So...we're building some common ground here. I feel good about this direction. :)

If you label him a giant pessimist, I would like to know what you label me? LOL

If Dallas is going 10-6, .. 11-5 each year, .. and winning the NFC East reguarly, and charging into the playoffs ...

Then the people that are saying we will be 8-8, we won't win the Division, we lose games we shouldn't, our coach loses games, we will not make the playoffs, ... could be called pessimists.

But if we are continually 8-8, not winning the Division, losing games we shouldn't, have the coach lose games, and never make the playoffs, ... people that say those things are not pessimists.

And should not be labeled as such.

That'd have to be over PM. :)

I don't think you're as pessimistic as blackbull, btw, but that's just my first default opinion.

I consider you just a really frustrated fan who's been disappointed for so long you're not inclined to give the organization, or most of its players, the benefit of the doubt for any reason whatsoever. But you're otherwise an articulate guy who's not afraid to own his opinion and a long-suffering die-hard Cowboys fan.

Actually, pessimism or optimism isn't related to performance. You can be a pessimist with good reason for your pessimism. Or the converse is also true.

The problem is, with three 8-8s and three week 17 division title games, we're pretty much right in the middle in terms of production. The three straight losses, age of the QB, and the state of the salary cap through 2014 are plenty of reasons to be relatively pessimistic for the coming season, in my opinion. I'm not pessimistic, but I see that there are plenty of reasons to believe that way.

The only commentary I take issue with is the stuff that suggests we're garbage, or a dumpster fire, or the like. We've been a borderline franchise in the East under Garrett, and that's just not good enough. I think we can all agree with that--including the players and the coaches.

Dez was where?

Am I mistaken: I thought Dez made an appearance in the suite?

or was it just Witten, Murray, Romo, Ware, Michael , Emmitt and maybe a couple of others?

See I disagree with that. I feel, at least in this case, that it is related to performance. Being a pessimist is thinking stuff is bad, or is going to be bad, even though it isn't.
In this case our performance has been bad at times.

But being a pessimist with good reason seems to me to be, ... wait ... , dare I say it, ... a realist.

Nah, Dez wasn't in the suite. If I'm timing things properly, he was hanging out with Jordan and those guys somewhere.
