Cool Romo Stat

So basically...Romo is the best in the NFL in the 4th qtr when it's tied or the team is down 1 score.
Especially on targets of 15+ yards, which is what that list covered.

But even if you include all attempts (short and long), Romo still has the highest passer rating in that situation over the last 21 years, which is as far back as PFR's game play finder can search. The list below uses Rodgers' 370 attempts as the minimum.

Romo 94.0
Rodgers 91.3
Brees 90.4
EManning 88.0
Roethlsbrgr 87.5
Cutler 86.2
Brady 84.4
Palmer 83.7
PManning 82.5

Pete Carroll probably said it best in 2014 after Dallas went to Seattle and beat his team (both on the scoreboard and physically): Tony has always had a little magic in him.
The numbers bear that out. Most QB's passer ratings are considerably lower on the deeper throws. Note that Romo, Peyton, Rodgers, and Brees are the only ones whose rating on the deeper targets is actually higher.

And Romo's is 15 points higher.

Sadly, for some of the Romo haters out there, stats don't matter. The only thing that matters is playoff wins or SB rings.

PH is the source, done through hard tedious stat crunching. This is something you won't see on BSPN...and if you did, would you ask them "where's the source"?

Man sit down somewhere lol. Let that man speak for himself.

Meaningless... Whether his fault for throwing last minute INT's, or the teams fault for not stopping the opposing offense in a close game, it hasn't lead to anything to be proud of.

So Tom Brady is a system QB.

A cinch they weren't Classical Korean. During those times, parts were played by young males...

Beijing opera or Jing Ju in China is still played by men as woman although many are now women. Before the War they were all men.

4th qtr or OT, tied or trailing by no more than 8 points, pass thrown at least 15 yards in the air.

There are 13 passers with at least 80 such attempts in that situation.

Romo 48 of 98 1483 yd 10 td 3 int 116.2 (91.4)
PManning 39 of 96 1184 yd 8 td 3 int 102.1 (95.6)
Rodgers 35 of 81 1076 yd 7 td 4 int 98.4 (93.1)
Brees 47 of 100 1387 yd 9 td 7 int 94.2 (92.4)
EManning 54 of 131 1650 yd 12 td 10 int 87.2 (92.3)
Palmer 45 of 101 1213 yd 7 td 9 int 75.2 (91.7)
Roethlsbrgr 53 of 120 1313 yd 6 td 8 int 73.4 (95.1)
Flacco 43 of 116 1135 yd 8 td 8 int 68.0 (77.4)
Cutler 39 of 103 1112 yd 6 td 8 int 65.7 (95.7)
Ryan 43 of 106 1106 yd 4 td 7 int 64.4 (81.8)
Stafford 36 of 95 1015 yd 2 td 6 int 58.9 (90.7)
Brady 37 of 109 1049 yd 6 td 8 int 58.2 (91.1)
Rivers 45 of 125 1090 yd 5 td 14 int 42.2 (88.6)

In case you were wondering, the number in parentheses is the player's rating on the shorter throws.

How many of those games did they win? This is always the more significant and cooler stat for me.

That would be interesting but as Percy taught us if you don't have a Defensive Passer Rating in the top 15 of the league, not too many. To demonstrate let's take a look at 2015.

The worst seven teams in the league Defensive Passer Rating.

26. Chicago
27. Baltimore
28. Detroit
29. Tennessee
30. Cleveland
31. Tampa Bay
32. New Orleans

The best seven teams in the league Defensive Passer Rating.

1. Carolina
2. Kansas City
3. Denver
4. Cincinnati
5. NY Jets
6. Seattle
7. Green Bay
8. Arizona

Without this significant cool stat - there will never be the coolest stat of all.

pretty good stats for a qb that goose says when it comes to winning championships he is fourth best in there history.

Job - that's as impressive information as I've ever seen on this site. Nice!

Thanks but my Mom is a Mandarin teacher from China and my wife is an english teacher so I have a handy reference. That song, Jia Ren Qu, is ancient and most agree the real translation is lost.

Anyway back to football.

Wow we're really going to throw super bowl champion quarterbacks under the bus for someone
who can't get past the 1st rd of the playoffs, Just because of 1 stat that doesn't mean
a damn thing to anyone?

Wow, someone doesn't get it...it being several things.

1. What the post was saying (hint: Not throwing QBs under the bus)
2. Teams wins superbowls, not QBs.
3. The stat does mean something to those who get it.
