Dak went 13-3 his first season as a backup quarterback to Romo. Seeing how Dak panned out, I’m not impressed with Rush’s record.
I bet Rush would be somewhat better if he had the starter position all through camp, all the first team snaps. But, he did not have that opportunity and had to really start learning all his players after gimp went down.

You don't need to have a strong azz arm to win games, just be smart about it. Tom Brady looks like a 17 year old high school kid when he was playing, never had the big arm, but was smart, unlike Dak.

Might be the most undeserving player in the NFL.

He does nothing outstanding he can’t move. He has no arm strength. He throws pop flies. He has no emotion. The fans are not clamoring for him like most fan base is clamor for a back up quarterback.

The fan base wants to see the third string quarterback, not him playing/ he does nothing to help the organization moving forward.

There’s really no upside to him even being on the roster he’s completely overpaid.

He was awful in that game yesterday fumbling snaps, terrible decisions weak throws behind the receiver, missing wide open targets.

Not playing Trey Lance a guy that you gave up a fourth round pick for and just riding with a clipboard is beyond asinine. This is the time to see if this guy can actually be a serviceable roster player.

Rush is a guy that was released and played for the Giants and somehow found his way back to Dallas.

Again, he adds nothing to the football team.

If he throws five touchdowns on Thursday, it still means nothing he is neither of the present or the future.
Waaaah! My anti-Dak pride is killing me.

Dak did not have the starter position through the 2016 camp. He was the third string quarterback.

Heck, Rush has more than Dak, so Cowboys fans shouldn't have a problem with Rush's athleticism.
This will be the million dollar question for Dak when he gets back. What physical capabilities does he have to tip the balance of competitiveness on the field in favour of the Cowboys.

I want to see what he is going to be with that medically repaired right leg. If he can be great, then that is fabulous. But I feel this upcoming year he has to prove a lot.

I'm not talking years ago, I'm talking the current team. Dak's team in 2016 was friggen loaded, with the NFL's rushing leader, kick butt oline, good receivers, he had it all, that is why he achieved what he did, then as the years wore on, he became injured and broken, physically and mentally.

I don't think he has to prove anything, he's paid up!

well, that's our GM for you. last time around, he argued over 1M /year or something like that....then was forced to franchise him because he bluffed, with his hands wide open and showing and he got called. ended up paying way more in one year on franchise tag than all the extra money he would have put in the contract.. then he didn't do anything to find competition, and got cornered again and had to hand him a contract. It wasn't so bad, because that was just about the begining of QB salaries escalating and you want to jump in on the bottom not mid way or at the top..

now I thought best move for both parties would be to part ways. but idiot GM. he thought he could pull another 11, 12 win season and didn't have a single QB under contract for 2025 and thinking he had a good team, while depleting of its talent and signing a bunch of literally Jags, he was forced to sign Dak. again, he bluffed with his hands showing. not only that, he dragged it to the last hour right before start of season. Dak and his agent didn't flinch once.

this is all Jerry's doing. best approach would have been to part ways with some of the talent, let Dak play out his last year and then go after a QB in the draft or somebody else in FA for a year or two, at a lower price and load up on FA and then find a QB that can do it (ala what Rams did).....

but again, we have an Idiot GM...brilliant marketing man, but idiot GM

Jerry decided to sign Dak because he knew some fans would buy into his and Stephen's excuses for constantly being so cheap and inactive in free agency. As some continue to fault Dak's contract and continue to believe that Jerry and Stephen has for this long time wanted to be bigger spenders in free agency, yet were somehow forced by Dak to resign him. For all of these years they have been Dak's contract as a cover for why they are so cheap, then the logic would say how they could have moved on from Dak this offseason. If they really deep down so badly wanted to open up their checkbooks for better quality FA players and yet couldn't because of having to pay Dak.

Nothing stops Jerry from doing something he really wants to do. And this offseason was the perfect opening for the Cowboys front office to move on from Dak, if they really thought the cap and Dak's contract was the only thing restricting them from being more active in free agency.

But my theory is that they choose to extend Dak, because for them it's easier sitting back and watching fans blame Dak for the front office being so cheap and inactive in FA. And easier for them to know that some fans will solely fault Dak for the franchise's continued failure in the postseason. Than it is for them to have let Dak walk and then decide to draft a QB in 2025 and have the spotlight and pressure heightened upon themselves as a front office, once they were no longer able to use Dak as a shield. And had to prove their competence by putting in the hard work it takes to be able to draft the right QB and then actually give that QB all of the tools and weapons he needs for success.

Letting Dak go means them risking having the Joneses revealed as the real problem, if the franchise were to go years without much postseason success even after Dak were gone. Plus having a QB on a rookie contract makes it harder for them to sell their "We can't spend real money to build around our team, because we have to pay the QB." excuse. Of course knowing how our FO works, Dak could have walked and Jerry would be using having to pay Lamb and Parsons has an excuse for why the front office was to be cheap in FA. And some fans would still buy into it, even if the Cowboys had let Dak walk and had a chance to start over with a fresh QB on a rookie contract.

So much talk on this forum about elite or non-elite. Rush is an elite backup. Look at what the Giants, Fins, Niners, Raiders, Titans all threw out there this year. Yes Dak is nowhere near an elite starter but Rush seems to be a much better backup than everything else we see thrown out there.

Cooper Rush has me wondering if he'll keep improving in upcoming games.
If it continues, he might even be admired, and Dak would surely get jealous. :muttley:
Of course, if he doesn't do so well, he'll probably be abused, much like Dak. :omg:

Just a thought on why the Cowboys aren't playing Trey Lance.....

Maybe they really do see him as better than Rush. So maybe they are "hiding" him in order to make him cheaper to re-sign in the offseason and have him back up Dak in 2025?

Let me know what Rush's record looks like when he gets to play behind the Great Wall 2.0 and has prime Zeke carrying the load.

Also, Rush is a bad qb.
