Both Watkins and Hill are saying he has not been cut "officially".

i dont really trust Bernie to be the backup,i imagine we will find another veteran center or more likely draft a G/C type.
His best game in 2012 was one of the two where he played Center.

That's true, but they seem to like Weems, who is a lot cheaper.
I've seen other posts that said they like Weems, but I can only trace the source of that back to 1 comment by Broaddus.

Also, I know that they have had Weems practice to some extent at OG. He is powerful and has the build to play OG or OT. I wouldn't be surprised to see him primarily practice at OG in training camp.

Wow, Dominguez, Olsen and costa cut. With the 16th pick in the nfl draft the Dallas cowboys select Zack Martin Notre Dame

Dallas gained 1.25 mil with this cut

I thought Costa might have some trade value especially with the Dolphins being desperate for OL. Only $1.5M/yr is pretty cheap even for a backup OL who can play C and G. It would have been nice to get a 7th rd pick for him. I'm sure the Cowboys tried but found no takers.

I thought OK C Gabe Ikard played pretty well in the games I saw.

Why was this funny? In hindsight, this was obviously a smoke screen

How on earth could it have been a smokescreen? Costa's contract was a contingency. There was no assurances we could draft Frederick.

Take a look here and perhaps it will put it into a little more perspective for you:

http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/center/

We were paying him like a starter.

If you do that for a "smokescreen", sorry--you are doing it wrong.

That would be nice if he actually could have played guard but he never did. Never even became an option. And no, $1.5 million for a backup center is not economical.

He was set to make 1.5 mill. I expect the plan is to either draft a G and use Bern as the backup at center or re-sign Waters down the line

Or all of the above. I think they draft an OG in the first three rounds, keep Bern as the top backup at OG and C, and still sign Waters at the end of training camp (with part of the money free up cutting Miles Austin).

All except the Waters thing. I still do not understand why people either think he is coming back or we want him to come back. It would kind of be nice for him to prove he wants to play by getting his biceps repaired.
