This is officially "cut the scrubs day"....................we picked up like $2 million with 4 cuts.............we are still like $18 over?

Keep the cuts coming Jerry, next up Austin and Ware (if he does not take massive pay cut).

How on earth could it have been a smokescreen? Costa's contract was a contingency. There was no assurances we could draft Frederick.

Take a look here and perhaps it will put it into a little more perspective for you:

http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/center/

We were paying him like a starter.

If you do that for a "smokescreen", sorry--you are doing it wrong.

First, let's not argue over Costa sucking....he sucks, won't hear me say otherwise. Second, I don't know what was going on in Jerry's mind when he made those comments, but the fact that we drafted a Center in the first round.....one that was almost universally accepted as a reach, a month or so later, shows that either Jerry wasn't honest when saying that or he has no input in the draft/evaluation of players, which we know is not true. Third, we were paying him like a starter because he was one. Not a very good one, which in the end, his compensation did reflect. You can't compare his base salary to guys playing on rookie deals and say we paid Costa more than Pouncey or who ever because they are still on rookie deals.

Or he frankly does not know talent. This is not the first marginal player that he has overpaid for years. Those little two million dollar contracts add up. We were paying complete garbage like Cory Proctor and Kevin Ogletree in a similar manner over the years.

All in all, saying it was a "smokescreen" is just wrong. He was our center at the time.

I was not comparing it to Pouncey. I would compare him to similar starters like Raiola and Garza. These are proven veterans who showed they could play.

Costa proved nothing to earn that contract other than we failed to address the position appropriately after cutting Gurode.

Those that defended him have lost all credibility. He was that bad and overmatched.

That's silly. He's a cap casualty because he's an expensive one position backup. No other reason.

Had Cooper been there for us last draft, Costa would have been our starting Center, and we might be extending him.

Wow.

So, this is you basically stating that yes, he is a starting caliber NFL center.

Is that right?

He's good, just got caught up in that darn cap thing.

It's beyond even trying to have a legitimate discussion about it.

Yes. He slipped through the cracks. Who knows where he'd be in a league without a salary cap.

Well, he was our starter, and would have been in 2012, right? What definition of starting calibre are you using?

We extended the guy and sat him when we drafted a first round replacement for him. That's what happens in this league. Your bizarre C fantasies to the contrary notwithstanding. His release surprises nobody. Not when he can't legitimately play OG and we have another backup C on the roster and he's carrying a cap hit. That's a recipe for release.

This is not a referendum on his play from two seasons ago. Lol.

You and Boy Wonder are having a nice imaginary debate, huh? Don't let me interrupt it with anything I've actually said, ok? Carry on.

You are a champion of dumbed down binary thinking.

Costa had several good games and dominant performances against top notch DT. He also had some horrific games against guys like Wilfork. He was a mixed bag but nuance seems to be beyond you.
