Except Gurode was beaten out by Costa in camp.
Yep.
Gurode was finished as a center.

so he was the starter. The Proctologist started for us; Petitti started for us; and on and on. Starting for us does not necessarily mean much.
You're right again. They should've played without a Center.
Yep.

as usual you are wrong. Gurode was only gone because he refused a pay cut. Otherwise he would have been starting. But not surprised you try and spin it your way; you were a big fan of all those jags we were forced to start the last few years.

. "We felt like it was best move for us right now," Garrett said. "There's nothing purposeful in saying, 'We've got to get rid of all the old guys and sign all the young guys.' That's not what we're thinking. We're just trying to make our team as good as it can be right now."
JG on taking Costa over Gurode:
Time will tell if he plays in the NFL again but props for those who said he was just a guy. The line looked much more like a nfl line this year when they had a solid/good starting NFL center in there.
What is more concerning to me goes back to the talent selection/ evaluation. Every year under Romo Jerry has been "all in" to win a championship. Isn't it worrisome in 2011 costa and Nagy were the game one starters on the interior line? I am sure Jerry "hoped" that position would be fine. We have seen this type of miss evaluation way too many times under Jerry. To me, the players all change, and every front office makes mistakes. But the huge misevaluation of talent is almost impossible to overcome in today's NFL where every team is just looking for that inch to give them an advantage on other teams.
If Gurode was still a quality starting center by NFL standards he would have had more than the 112 snaps as a center since being released by the Cowboys.
lmao,,, a lot of this stuff is just pure gold!!!!!!![]()
Well, of course the line looks better with another first rounder added to it. That goes without saying. The issue is, it came at the cost of, say, adding another starting caliber DT. I think we could have really used another skilled player on the DL last season. Doesn't everybody else?
The question was never whether the C position could be upgraded or not. The question was where we should be spending the premium resources.
The fact that Costa won a starting job, was extended, and that the team apparently tried to retain him as a backup tells me everything I need to know about popular opinions here about the guy's play. They were wrong.
When he's picked up by another team, that'll just be more confirmation of what we already know.
Yeah, he had a whopping 9 starts total (both G/C) in 3 years since he was cut with 2 different teams and another team that he didn't play for in between. He was quite done.
