I get what the OP is saying. It’s a hypothetical question.

He is saying.

IF the cowboys don’t sign him this off-season.

And IF Dak has an MVP level season.

And IF The cowboys win the super bowl.

Then could he get 40 million next offseason?

I suppose 40 million would be possible under those circumstances. But those are a couple of major major IF’s. And as much as I like Dak. They aren’t very likely of happening.

paying out max contracts for vets is stupid. You cant keep kicking the can down the road into perpetuity...at some point the product suffers...and in this case, the fans will get priced out. Sooner rather than later. If anyone here thinks this game can survive without fans, they are grossly mistaken. Fans leave...sponsors will leave as well. None of us want that. Love Dak Prescott...he's my guy, but if he gets 40 mil...Mahommes will be getting 60 mil per in 2 years time..where will it end?

This brings to mind john gruden's comments following the downfall of the bucs right after their sb victory. "When you're getting to that point at first, everyone wants to be a part of it. After you've won it, everyone thinks they're the reason for it". (Paraphrasing) after their victory, everyone wanted to be the highest paid.

The problem Dallas currently has is that everyone seems to want to be the highest paid and they haven’t won anything yet. What’s worse is the team seems intent on going down the path of obliging them which means this whole thing will fall apart before it really even starts and there will be nothing to show from all this talent 3-4 years from now. There is no way they hand out 5 or 6 big contacts and have each player live up to them. Only a few might which means it’s more likely we see the team regress after paying everyone. It’s supposed to be in this order. Success, championship, sign big deals, lose some free agents, regress, start over. Dallas looks like they are going to skip the first two.

that's true...everyone has their hand out here in Dallas wanting a max deal...as if we are playing with monopoly money. Its a real turn off and not realistic.

its sickening honestly. Greed by all.

It's crazy. I mean between Jones and Blank, they spent nearly 400 million on super yachts.
While not every owner is truly swimming in millions/billions, they fact they own a team at least makes their net worth over 500mil(Mark Davis)

As long as the cap goes up the market will never fall flat.
the one thing that COULD prevent the cap from going up are the fans...But your right to a large degree. The fans have been underestimated and appreciated I think...and are pretty smart. If we see things getting absolutely nuts with tickets and salaries ...it will change everything. The next CBA will be crucial in this I think. I would much rather see a health package included in the new CBA than what we are seeing with salaries. Right now the league has the financial ability to easily offer solid healthcare to the players during and after they play. GET IT DONE and reign in the salary structure.

Excellent point. However, I think if Dak is QBing us to a victory this season with no extension at a minimum he will be the highest paid QB in the NFL.

Not debating whatsoever but I think Mahomes become the first $40 millionaire

we have a rookie contract structure...its pre-set. Its the same for all rookies depending where you were drafted. I think we can fashion SOMETHING like that for NFL vets as well when they are up for a new deal. It makes sense. You cant pay out max contracts to everyone...just can't.

That is a good bet. My thoughts on Dak in this thread is IF Dak goes into a season with no contract and then QBs us to a Superbowl victory....ala Flacco. I personally can see a case where Dak's agent can build a case for a 40 mil a year deal.

OPINIONS VARY.
My opinion on Dak and his contract.

THE GOOD.
The is a great leader, a great guy, and a student of the game. He has intangibles and charisma on his side. He's like a good luck charm out their. (See his game winning drives)He's still young, meaning he has room to improve.

THE BAD
Dak struggles throwing floaters. Dak holds the ball too long at times. Dak throws flatfooted a lot.(which causes the ball to sail on him)

I love Dak I want to see him succeed. But I think he's worth about 26-28 a year. Honestly.

Yes

You certainly allowed to have that opinion.....many had the same opinion of Flacco in the same scenario you just pointed out...minus the MVP level season.
