Could Garrett have been a good coach without Jerry?

That's just my avatar, by the way. I don't want anybody thinking I'm a ginger in real life.

I do have the crazy bug-eyes though.

I think that's an old man and wife dancing, btw. Did you think they were fighting?
Yea, I thought they were fighting over the Cowboys. My bad.

Just so we are clear, I like you even when I disagree with you but I never want to dance with you!:lmao:

I hope you watched what a real coach and staff can do when faced with serious injuries and other problems. Patriots 27...Texans 0. Put Garrett in that position.:)

It's interesting. Some of the Garrett fans talk about how much better it would be if Jones just woke up and hired a real GM.

But do they realize that if Jones hired a real GM and Garrett only made one playoff appearance in 6 years, that the new GM would likely send Garrett packing?

Belichick is the best coach in the league, hands down.

PM me when NE let's him go and he decides he wants to come work for Jerry.

I think this thread is very appropriate after Bill B showed what a real coach can do with a 3rd stringer last night. Jason is a horrible coach. Never has been a good coach and never will be a good coach. JG is a good guy. JG is a gentleman. JG is smart. JG just isn't a good coach that can strategize and win in different, non-ideal situations. The reality of his tenure is this....the first 3 years were marred by his horrible in game mistakes...icing kickers, time management, etc. Even the biggest JG fan knows this and Jerry said so himself when he said he needed to see something after being a coach in training for years. Then he wins with a PERFECT situation....Romo healthy, team healthy, right scheme, right assts, etc...and they still basically almost blew it in the Lions playoff game because of JG. Since then, things have gone wrong and the excuses have come to the surface again. The guy has only had 1 good year with ideal circumstances. Jerry is not great but they have had talent...more than teams that get in to the dance with coaching. JG wasn't even winning games as an OC either near the end. People need to realize that you can't equate words with good. His words are betrayed by the teams play. He talks about wanting his guys and his WAY. Yet guys are in trouble yearly. You can put that on Jerry but many of you have stated that JG is making draft decisions. But none of that explains why he preaches discipline, doing things right, etc and then they come out unprepared weekly. They are one of the worst 1st quarter teams in the league. They make dumb mental errors and they find ways to lose. So how is JGs philosophy working? There is a disconnect between what he preaches and what we see. To me this is damming. He is not good, no matter the GM.

Honestly...is there a real HC in the NFL that would come to Dallas and work under the conditions that Garrett accepts? The Cowboys are not run like any other organization in the league. It would be hard to find a legitimate HC under the present circumstances.

I've hammered Jerry a bit in this thread, but he's really a mixed bag. I think some personalities could work well with him (guys like Holmgren or Andy Reid would be fine). Other personalities, like Jim Harbaugh or Bruce Arians for example? No way.

Jerry's tough, though, because even if you want to work with him, on the one hand he's giving you everything you ask for. On the other, he undermines you, he gives you things you *don't* want and expects you to integrate them, and generally just makes the process more difficult for everybody.

Jerry would never hire a Bill Bellicheck...because he knows any success we would have he would not get credit for. Plus if a coach like Bill Bellicheck came in and had us winning in 2 years....it will confirm that Jerry was the problem for 20+ years. Jerry wants to win HIS way. And he has gone so far down this path...he is determined to see it through. Lastly, there are no financial repercussions for Jerry playing GM for the rest of his life...so there is no end in sight to this mess!

Sadly I agree. Jerry would be given great credit for hiring Belichick...however it would be too late to redeem himself in the eyes of many. Anyway, a Star like Bill isn't likely to want to join Dallas and suffer the tactics and meddling that would follow. He would have to be GM with complete control of the football operation and that WILL never happen in Dallas.

Jerry does not want credit for hiring a legitimate football guy. He wants to be viewed as a "football guy". And hiring a legitimate "football guy" would only allow him to be viewed as a good salesman. Well...he has and always be viewed as a good salesman. So there is no challenge or sense of accomplishment in being viewed as a good salesperson. He has it bad...really bad....his sickness is on display for the whole world...and he does not seem to care. It is too bad he...or the people around him...have never been able to get him to see that if by some chance in his lifetime...the Cowboys win again....he will NOT get credit for it. The narrative will be....they won in SPITE of Jerry. The validation he is seeking is NEVER going to come...so I have made peace with this situation...because I know what it is.
