Could the Cowboys put a filter screen to block out sunlight?

there is no rule about natural light. jerry decides if he wants it open or closed. i dbelieve they said during the broadcast it was the first game it had been open ever

There are LEEDS credits on natural light in buildings. It was done on purpose. For past games, see Falcons game from 2009 and Titans game from 2010.

The end zones are glass so light comes through if the doors are open or closed.

I'm just surprised that we've been playing games there for 5 years and some of you just now noticed. The tree huggers have rules on natural light in buildings. So that is the reason for this angle of the stadium.

It isn't an issue after October each year as we head closer to winter.

What exactly do the LEEDS credits give? I'm curious.

I think this is a great "home field advantage" . Cowboys have the lead......and visiting teams gotta throw into the sun.

Exactly. We can practice and play in this environment and get used to it, while visiting teams will be annoyed by it.

Annoying the opposition is a good thing.

I hear that when Joe Robbie.........I mean Sun Life Stadium was designed, they purposely oriented it so the visiting sideline would bake in the Florida sun during games. Couple that with the visiting team having to wear dark uniforms, and teams would start to wilt in the second half sun. When the Packers played the Dolphins last week, I know they were talking about it after the game being an issue.

they are tax credits. up to you if you want them. kinda like tax credits for buying electric car. they are not mandatory. the idea is the more natural light the less electricity you use.

I don't want to get into the whole LEED credit system, but a LEED credit is not a tax credit.

No relation whatsoever

No, it's not. Neither team can see looking into the sun, and no matter which way you're going, either your QB or your receivers have to look into it.

Only Jerry could build a $1.2 billion stadium and forget to build it north and south.

Having AT&T Stadium facing in a direction such that sunlight could come in through the glass doors was probably a bad idea. That being said, would it be possible to simply add a light-filter screen to the retractable doors to block out sunlight? Or prop up a 100-foot light-filter screen, indoors or outdoors, to block the Sun's rays? I think it could be done relatively simply and cheaply, and the light filters could be taken away any time they needed to be, and then moved back in place again.

Anyone with a background in this sort of stuff?

The weather was perfect for the game and they still had the roof closed. If they're not going to open it in that weather, then I don't know when they would ever open it.

I thought it looked terrible and seemed to affect the Giants playing calling for part of their drive in the forth. If the shoe was on the other foot and something like that lead to a Cowboys loss people would be marching to the stadium with torches and pitchforks. Keep those curtains closed in the future.

If the show was on the other foot. We would have to deal with it.

I believe I read somewhere, or watched a video of Mr. Jones stating rather proudly, about a certain type of film over the glass doors and along the dome 'seams'. This filter would, in certain light, reflect outside shades of grayish blue or silver depending on cloud cover, etc... The other designed effect would be to cast that breathtaking glow of sunlight upon the field of play. Have you noticed the quality of light is so pure - almost ethereal in how it seems to glow and shine off the helmets? From a lighting stand point, it simply beautiful on the field.

My two cents: it only makes Cowboys Stadium that much more awesome and if opposing teams cry about it, F^$^ them!!! HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE BABY!!!!

Valid pts... Did you see when McClain hit that RB in the 4th qtr and strip him? The light graphically showed the sweat and slobber fly off the RB's head at impact... Gross but very cool!

there are some weird posts then there are some like this that challenge the basic laws of physics.

the light is coming in through the end zone. i.e. it blinds in one direction.
being the team benefiting from that is huge.

dallas can choose to close or open the roof and separately the end zones.
they just have to leave it once decided before kick off.

jerry is a lot of things but pretending he didnt get the stadium oriented properly borders on bannable and egregious lack of common sense.

Sure fans can just wear sunglasses, and I think NFL teams are allowed to wear visors in their helmets. If not, they should be.

AT&T Stadium, the world's most criticized sports complex. Too bad it will not be demolished and replaced any time soon. It is funny how the roof and videoboard have taken a backseat to windows for a change.

Correct LEED is not a tax credit, yet. Many local gov'ts are putting a minimum gov't requirement on buildings. Many property management companies put in there to stabilize leases that will less volatile in the long run with added costs during construction. Depending on the camp you are in it is either a good thing or a bad thing.

Bet all those fans with box seats on the field level were pleased. :D

They showed the fans having to shade their eyes from the sun with their hands or programs.
An article in the paper this morning mentioned Dez did better the second half after putting on a visor and did something else,I forget what,oh yes ,changed his cleats.

Stadiums are not built East West like that. It was a HUGE architectural flaw.

Uh.......either your QB or your receivers are looking into the sun at all times no matter which direction you're going.

Please tell me I don't have to explain this.

If it didn't provide an advantage then why do the opposing teams complain about it and the Cowboys never complain about it? It's clearly something that the opponents are not used to and the Cowboys are and know how to adapt to it. Advantage Cowboys.
