This Fat Zeke stuff reminds me so much of the Fat Tony stuff we'd go through every offseason. Three weeks, against three very good defenses is the reason why his numbers are suppressed right now. He's still got the gears and the power, and we'll see it on display soon enough. At which point we can start taking about how he needed a wake up call, or how he was able to run better after losing all that weight.

You just have to sit back and laugh. I used to be a meathead and people just can't understand that professional football players, for the most part, aren't going to look like roided out bodybuilders, guys that are big and ripped without exogenous substances have ungodly genetics. Football shape != bodybuilder shape. I'd actually be worried if a running back at 225 pounds had veins in his abs, itd mean he was starving himself, not drinking nearly enough water to stay hydrated, or on PEDs.

Except if you compare playing pictures from 21 year old Zeke to 22 year old Zeke there is noticeable extra weight he is carrying that does not look of the "good" kind. Nobody is saying Zeke should look like a body builder. They are wondering why 22 year old Zeke looks noticeably heavier than 21 year old Zeke.

And on Zeke this is easier to see at first glance because he famously likes to crop his jersey.

He looks pretty much exactly the same to me. He's getting to the holes when they're there, breaking some tackles at the line, and finishing runs low or with his shoulders.

The running game as a whole has started slow again, but they did that a bit last year, where the OL looked like it was struggling with timing on the various zone blocks. Through three weeks, I know when I've been frustrated is been because the defense is either getting penetration in the interior, or because we've got guys pulling and missing reach blocks and those defenders are making the plays. I got no issues with the RB.

As for the fat stuff, I always take that with grain or ten of salt. People where having absolute fits in here in training camp about how fat Demarcus Lawrence was, and it was total nonsense. Sure, a RB needs some weeks to get into peak football shape at the start of the season, and sure, Elliott was pretty gassed in week one there. But that's the case for pretty much everybody these days, and not reason for alarm.

We can agree to disagree.

The DLAW stuff was ridiculous because he was in a ill fitting tshirt. I was right there with you and others saying that was ridiculous while it was happening in real time.

But Zeke looks different to me and its something many have noticed. Let's hope for whatever reason he picks it up as well as the interior of our line picks it up.

I've seen those pictures but go back and look at him from Denver. He's a 22 year old athlete. He's going to drop his excess weight quickly. Or "round into form as you put it yourself."

And the data backs it up. His top speed is down nearly 20% from last season. When stats back up the eyeball test that carries weight with me.

That data said his top speed in 17 games was higher than this top speed in 3, when the selection of defensive opponents was skewed. We'll see when it's all said and done if he gets another shot to get through the line untouched and beat the angle on a safety.

If the point is that he was overweight, but isn't now, ok. I don't agree he was overweight to start, but if it's already the case that he's dropped it, it's pretty much immaterial to me. The issue in Denver was the blocking, and not the RB, anyway, so if he was fat that week, it was a good week to be fat since it didn't hurt him.

No problem. I'm not a fan of Zeke's anyway. I just think the blocking has been fairly suspect early on and that that's a sufficient explanation for the yardage dip early.

was in awe with that play. Dak is developing a great pocket presence, excellent awareness but his accuracy on the run, while throwing across his body, impressive

It's embarrassing how bad Green **** the bed on the play TWICE. Not only does he get beat initially, but then he has a shot to pancake 44 and instead just stands there watching. I don't want OL like that on my team. Put a ******* helmet on someone!

I don't like my players coming in out of shape. Hey maybe not an issue at 22 but what about 27?

And I'm probably biased anyways.

I think it was you who said it best... Wasn't a fan of the pick and now starting not to be a fan of the player.I'm right there with ya.

He's working himself into shape. But he hasn't looked his old self.

When he struggled last year against the giants week 1...nobody said he looked like he lost his burst. Actually he was running full speed into the line and not letting holes develop. Now he looks sluggish. I mean in the now infamous 30 yard run against the cards he didn't even try and bust it. You think 2016 Zeke "runs to darkness?"

Exactly.

The folks (like Spagnola) that don't wanna believe he's heavy right now try to confuse the notion by saying "he's got no holes to run through." However, two things can be equally true...one, the o-line has struggled some this season thus far; and two, there have been runs where Zeke has not gotten to edge or to a spot that he's demonstrated in the past he can.

I'm sure at the BEGINNING of many of these games fans were watching just to see what the players did during the anthem when it was being played.

You understand there are things like Playstation Vue, Directv now, YouTube TV, Amazon, etc whose viewers are not being counted right?

I think most are saying two things: he doesn't appear to be heavy (either in photographs, or on the better runs he actually does make) and his blocking has been worse against some good defenses so far. That's not confusion. It's disagreement and offering an alternative, more reasonable explanation for a very short term production problem.
