That was the first thing that jumped out too. I don't know that I heard or saw a lot from either player, but assumed Gallimore would start. Regardless I think we'll see quite a bit of rotation along the dline again.

At DT our backup talent is close to the starters in talent level. I don't know if that says we have pretty good depth, or everyone is a fringe starter type. I have higher expectations for Osa and Gallimore as they seem to carry the most upside for possible breakouts. Would be nice if Bohanna can take a nice step as a space eater as well.

No not really. Only cause bohanna plays more 1 tech which means he technically starts.

Things that stand out for me:

• The offense is basically as expected but this kinda confirms that Noah Brown is the no.3 ahead of Tolbert at the moment. Looks like Tolbert is 4th and the first choice to come in for Gallup though until he's ready.
• Bohanna starting 1 tech is interesting but probably more a reflection of his role as a traditional 1T and Gallimore as a hybrid 1/3 tech.
• Golston is not listed as a DT..... can that now be considered a failed experiment?
• Hard to see Ridgeway suiting up on game day too often unless Bohanna is injured
• Bell listed as backup free safety? We have a good safety group but we might be lacking in guys that can play single high
• Going by the list I would guess the inactives are: Ridgeway, Houston, Bell and then:
  • One of Golston or Williams
  • One of Walezko or Ball
  • One of Gifford or Harper .

No. The 3-4 setup (or 5-2) is Armstrong, Odighizuwa, Bohanna, Gallimore, Lawrence, with Parsons and LVE at linebacker. Basham may be a sub at the DE/OLB spots while Golston will likely get some 5-tech snaps, maybe 3-tech. Not sure Hill is a sub in these sets or just in the 4-3 nickel, which is what we'll be in most of the time. We will use a package with Lawrence inside, though, from what I understand, with Fowler and Williams at the end spots. It will be interesting to see all the different combinations Quinn uses in the front seven, since not only do we have all those DL to rotate and move around, but we also have four linebackers (Parsons, LVE, Barr, Cox) who can be rotated around.

Yes. If Tank is playing the 3 there are better candidates for the other rush tackle than Gallimore.

I am not sure what the goal line lineup we haven't seen yet has to do with anything.

Lets just start out by saying that I have been very ambivalent about Hill and consistently so. He was inconsistent and injury prone but he demonstrated he could translate his athletic skill to the field with his anchor and quickness even if his inexperience saw him washed as much.

Then he has played well in the recent preseason. How do the crayons taste?

Yes. If Tank is playing the 3 there are better candidates for the other rush tackle than Gallimore.

Goal line lineup? If you're talking about the pseudo-3-4, we used that quite often on run downs last year. It generally had Watkins out there at 1-tech with Ogihizuwa out there at 3 and Urban at 5-tech. Hamilton also played the 1 some. They would be flanked by Gregory, Basham, Golston and after he got healthy, Lawrence. The linebackers were LVE and Parsons. That's nothing new that we haven't seen. It was our run defense, used about a third of the time (or less).

I think Gallimore will be the other primary DT we'll see in the 4-3 nickel, along with Odighizuwa. Tank will only be at the 3 in the NASCAR packages. I think that we'll mainly see that package when it's third-and-super long because we wouldn't want Lawrence, Fowler and Williams out there with no true DTs if there's much of a chance of the other team running.

I'm interested in seeing if we play a rush 3-4 defense where we put Williams, Lawrence and Fowler on the line and Barr, LVE, Parsons and Cox at linebacker. I think there would be a lot of potential there for the offense to not know who is coming with Barr and Parsons both capable of getting after the passer. Of course, we know that most of the time it's going to be Parsons, but it also lets us move him around so it's hard to know pre-snap where he's coming from. We'd also have an excellent blitz package with him and Barr both coming.

I was talking about the nickel. As for the hybrid line you are talking about, I am not sure that it is going to be emphasized again this season. The roster doesn't seem to say so.

And I have no idea why you give Gallimore such pass rush love. He's never been good at it.

Nothing really to see here. Depth means nothing 'especially on Defense' we've options and weapons for specific teams/play's/scenario's.

On the Offense, I doubt the crux of the matter is the personnel, it's whether Kellen can scheme to overcome our roster weaknesses.

Is he really solid though? Seems like his best play was his rookie season…..certainly showed flashes then.

things that stand out:
12 defenders listed 3 safeties, 4 LB and 4 down DL.
That 3-safety look was elite last year.

Turpin already 2nd string at WR and behind a big blocking WR in Brown.
I like that combo quite a lot actually. You aren't running reverses, hitches and tunnel screens to Brown but you def could to Turpin.
But you aren't running power to Turpin's side and with Brown you can.
