The Jones family is to football analysis as John Kirby is to truth telling.

The situation with Cooper is still an odd one. To me it's always been about letting a good player get away for peanuts, not the fact just dumping him.

We did gamble on hoping Gallup, Washington, or Tolbert would step up for this team. I bet we won't take that gamble again and infuse more talent into the receiver room this year.
It was personal for Jerry, but the fact we only got a 5th is more proof of how inept this FO is.

There are areas of strength, but when it comes to flipping their players for value these days they're pretty bad at it. Best value trade they've made is flipping Everson Griffen for a 6th round pick over the last couple decades.

It was obvious to the fans they mishandled the WR position before the season ever started. Go read my posts from last summer. Lol

They realized since their hope of Dak (paid as elite QB territory) , he cant make everything around him better. ( like Brady, even Romo - make average receivers look world class )
So how did daks offense lead the nfl in points scored? And how did dak destroy Brady and the bucs with 300 yards and 5 tds?

let me know when he get that figured out.

The mishandling was what they did after getting rid of cooper. moving on from cooper was the right move.

Yeah, they mishandled WR and Cooper. was just the first blunder.

If you are going to trade Cooper then you have to replace him or. at least, bring the WR squad up to the same level of talent.

Instead:

1. A player coming back from injury.
2. A marginal free agent with no record of appreciable results
3. A rookie from a small school drafted in the lower half of the 3rd round.
4. A former 7th round pick that played mostly special teams.

How do any of this look like a serious attempt to replace a four-time Pro Bowler?

Even if Lamb did replace the productivity of Cooper, who was going to replace the productivity of Lamb? Was he supposed to do both? Was he supposed to have 2500 yards receiving and 18 TD's or something?

When does Jerry understand that when you shop for basement bargains you are going to get results that belong in the basement?

I could see letting Cooper go for cap/age/position reasons. Lamb is a legitimate WR#1. Your QB makes a gazillion dollars, he's got to start making due with less than *2* legitimate #1 WRs.

What I couldn't see at all was then spending the cap saved on Gallup and Schulz. Cooper just brings so much more to the offense than those two put together.

When are they going to admit they mishandled the GM position?
NEVER !
This is about as close as they will come, and notice all the maybes lol

These guys should hire someone to monitor CZ, and report back to them, and then they would know all this stuff early in the season,or during offseason.
Instead they figure out the MAYBE they erred after the season is over lol.

Oh they’ve mishandled more than just the WR position.
Yes but they are only going to admit... or possibly even see the obvious mistakes.

They are not admitting any mistakes on zeke, they are just wanting him to take a paycut, but still want to keep him lol.
No mistakes with dak , or that trading amari was a mistake.

They still never figured out the best way to use Pollard.

That was worse than the WR problems.

Our best player on offense was just used like he was a traditional weapon.

The guy is Christian McCaffrey and the Cowboys acted like he was just a backup.
So true!
Pollard has every bit as much talent as McCaffrey!

The Cowboys FO have consistently signed bad contracts, failed to develop talent, mis-managed the salary cap, made poor trades, reckless early round draft picks and refused to invigorate a once-proud franchise mired in mediocrity for 26-27 years with innovative coaching talent.
How does one be successful when you have a FO exhibiting neolithic incompetence? Dallas could have Mahomes as QB and they would still be challenged.
Bottom line is Dallas just doesn’t have the ability/expertise, unlike competent GMs to deftly manage the cap to enhance the roster.
