Cowboys are in the worst position financially and personnel wise I can remember

The Cowboys are in a horrible state where they are and will be paying several players Top Pay but the team has not and will not achieved any success.
Currently we are paying the Top QB salary, $60 avg to Dak.
2nd highest WR to Cee Dee ($34).
We will be paying Micah the Top DE salary, $35-40 avg.
We will need to resign Aubree who will likely demand and deserve the Top Pay for Kicker, $7 avg.
Tyler Smith is eligible for an extension and will likely and derserve the Top Pay for OL, $21 avg.
It is hard to remember a team paying so many players the Top Pay of their positions and the team has not had any success.
Most teams that pay player like this because those players helped them achieve great success.
We have these "Top Players" but given the lack of depth on the team, all this money will be for naught because having such financial commitments will prevent the team from bringing in additional talent to give the team a chance at capitalizing on having these Top Players.
So we will pay all of them and like many other of our past Top Players since the late 90's, they will likely not achieve anything of significance.
Will create 100 million in cap space. At pick 12 it will be Jeanty or another player with high upside. They are making a commitment to running the football and setting up the play action pass. They have hired a younger and hungry coaching staff to possibly turn the team around. It's not so bad.

Do you remember Antonio Bryant being the savior at WR and Derek Ross being the next big thing at CB? Darren Hambrick carrying the running game into the future? At one point, Dexter Coakley was the strongest trade piece on the team. In his twilight years, Troy Aikman was being paid like a top QB, but his on field production was not so good. To salvage his career the team gave away two 1st round picks for Galloway and they played 1 game together. Dark times.

This roster is definitely top heavy, salary wise, but those rosters 20+ years ago didn't have guys like Parsons, Lamb, or Diggs, or Bland....and there are some nice looking younger players developing in the trenches. Safety was by far the strongest position for a few years after Williams was drafted, but the LBs were undersized, the DL was decent with Glover and Ellis, but there was no real threat to rush the passer. The OL had some nice pieces, Larry Allen was still pretty solid and Flozell was one of the best, but everyone else should've been on the practice squad. WR was a mess until Dez was drafted. TE was bad until Campbell/Witten. QB after Troy....Cooper Rush would've been a massive upgrade over that clown show.

In comparison to those years, we've been spoiled. They have alot of work to do before the start of the season, but at least they have pieces to build around. The late 90s/early 00s was purgatory.

This is what happens when u have too many STUDS on the team!

Thought for sure that Derek Ross was going to be all that!

The Jones have had so many bad decisions that it's almost impossible for this organization to right itself anytime soon. New coaching staff isn't going to fix stupid!

Good backs and a good running game gives them a good foundation.

The only positive is that there is some talent on this team that will make them “competitive”. Ceedee, Smith, Micah, Bland, Turpin and Aubrey to name a few. It’s a shame O is injured, and we can hope Diggs rebounds, but after that we’ve got a bunch of average guys and some guys not worth the salary they’re paid. Sure you can add Diggs there if you want, but before his injuries he was good.

We wont know much till FA starts in march. Will jones boys do anything??
Then the draft will they do the right things there.

If they were to get a couple good FA, then a good draft, it would all look different.

Well, it looks like they are going to have Dak hand off a lot more and that's a good thing. He has always been his best when he hands off.

The only thing in a bad position is your crystal ball. This perception you speak as facts are just delusions in your head. None of it adds up to the Cowboys being in a bad position. Let it all play out without your counting them out before anything even happens. Your negativity is what's wrong.

One thing for sure. They will be better at running back.

The real issue isn't simply the salaries effect on the cap.

Are these player salaries proportional to their contribution to the team's success?

As far as DeeDee and Micah are concerned, definitely yes. These are elite playmakers whose contribution isn't limited to their performance but also to the effect their performance has on their teammates.

Micah Parsons makes everyone else around him better. CeeDee forces opponents to dedicate additional resources that opens things up more for his teammates.

Dak is my quarterback, and I will support him on the field of play, but it is difficult to defend his contract. It never should have happened, and it wouldn't if the GM had demonstrated some foresight.

Dak's contract was not the result of a misevaluation of his perceived value to the success of the team. That would be enough of a concern. The reasons leading up to his contract are far more troubling as well and impactful to the future of the franchise.

This was sheer incompetence. Cowboys management failed to develop any serious alternative besides Dak as the starting QB. There was no serious competition. There was no free agent alternative considered or acted upon. No potential future starter was addressed in a draft.

This is particularly troubling when you consider that his most recent contract wasn't the first time that Cowboys management failed to produce negotiating leverage. It mirrored the events just four years earlier.

The Cowboys aren't in an untenable cap situation, but they do have to find a way to compensate for the discrepancy between Dak's contract and the results of his performance. The highest paid contract to a quarterback should belong to someone with at least some familiarity with postseason success.

it isnt guaranteed lol. wont know till they actually draft one.
I am hoping they let shot have a big say in the draft. I think he wants to get a RB.

Oh come on, you cut Zeke and you add 2 backs from the best running back draft class maybe ever.

Late 90's and early 00's the Cowboys were in worse shape than today. Both financially and personnel wise.
Exactly. We aren’t in near the cap mess as then. It’s much easier today to push out money and league revenue is really predictable for many years now because of all the rights deals being fairly new, some brand new

No Mountain West Conference running back is going to walk into the NFL and be even an average NFL running back as a rookie. Particularly behind the Cowboys’ offensive line.
