Parnel
Free has missed a big part of training camp with a foot/ankle problem related to the 2 surgeries that he's had in the past 18 months. He was always a marginal player and now he is gimpy.

Meanwhile, I just reviewed the Jags-Lions game from last night and Parnell was terrific. He was easily their best OL in that game. He played the 1st half and into the 3rd quarter. His pass protection was excellent and he was bullying people in the running game.

Weems has not been as bad as many people claim, but he needs a lot of work to be ready to protect Romo if Free's foot/ankle gives out on him or his play just declines below acceptable levels.

The Cowboys for some reason gave Free 5M per year on a new contract.

Jax gave Parnell 6.4M per year (Yes, more was guaranteed, but if he plays out the contract it's the annual average that counts against the cap, not the guarantee).

Parnell is 3 years younger than Free and Parnell is healthy.

Now Romo's health could be in danger and the Cowboys saved a whopping 1.4M per year against the cap.
ParnellParnell did look impressive last night.

I want to see how this plays out tonight before saying we made a mistake however.

The list of smart decisions the Jaguars have made in twenty years is pretty short. If this makes the list I'd be surprised. That's a lot of money for a 29 year old that's started 7 games.

We are rueing Parnell now? Wasn't he expendable last season when we got Martin, even Collins?

If Dallas misses the playoffs, it will not be because of Jeremy.

Those guys look like OGs to me.

Green and Gibson were drafted to help replace Parnell.

No one was drafted or signed to replace Murray.

I would have kept Parnell as the younger, healthier player, but I knew Dallas would keep Free because he was still the better player last year overall and he's a leader in the locker room. There was no way we could keep both, and Dallas went with the player it trusts more. I have little problem with that since a decision had to be made.

I know, but at the time, Collins and Martin could play all 5 positions on the line. They could do no wrong.............popular opinion not mine there.

JAX is so far under the cap they didn't even prorate a signing bonus

They gave Parnell a 5m roster bonus on top of his 3m salary.

DAL would not structure his contract this way.

DAL owed 4m in Dead Money to Free because of his terrible extension. Instead of eating that and being done with him, they doubled down and went back for seconds. Parnell's deal looks a lot better as a starter and when you subtract Free's money is is an outright deal.

If you are being honest, be honest.

I liked Parnell, thought he played pretty well and was sorry to see him go, but it's over. It's time to let go.
