And I said consistent mistakes an clearly the FO hasn't done that of late.

You're absolutely right, they haven't. This is one blemish on an otherwise remarkable offseason. And they've been on a great roll in the talent acquisition department for the most part for the past several years too.

Good gosh, dude. How many times are you going to lose the same argument?

So if Murray carries the ball once and gets hurt for the rest of the season, that's a better deal than the Brinkley deal? Seriously, that's your argument?

My 'argument' is that your grasping at straws to justify this blunder is an EPIC FAILURE!

Money wasted on Brinkley never playing a snap has nothing to do with Murray getting hurt in Philadelphia!

One has nothing to do with the other no matter how hard you wish for it to be so.

Then I suggest you never buy insurance if you don't successfully total your car or accidentally live too long for a term-life policy.

No worries about me spending $2 million on one I can never cash in. But thanks for your concern just the same.

I consider $2 million for a player who will never play a single snap of meaningful football for you to be a 'big' mistake but feel free to form your own opinion too.

It's only a big mistake if that 2 million dollars made us lose out on another player.

The NFL is make believe as far as money goes.

If the team lost 2 million for 1 year then it means nothing to me.

If that 2 mill cost us another player then it means something to me.

Oh....my.....gawd.

There was no crystal ball five months ago. Just hopes and prayers. They needed a legitimate backup plan, which Brinkley was and still is as a player.

Things turned out better than originally thought EXCEPT Chaz Green can't play and Weems doesn't look ready.

An opportunity came to sign Mills and somebody had to be cut.

The rookie Wilson and Gachkar have played really well, and Lee is healthy, as is Hitchens. Rolando McClain is four weeks away. The linebackers look pretty solid overall.

THE REST OF THE ROSTER IS TOO GOOD TO CUT ANYBODY, and they decided to keep Weems for now because he knows the playbook.

They didn't cut based on money. They cut based on what they could AFFORD to lose as a player.

Usually, teams don't have this kind of depth. They're not about to throw a good, young player out there based on a lousy $2 million, which is pocket change in the NFL.

The fact is that you'll never know it. A team will never admit that they lost a player because they couldn't afford it because they wasted money previously. The company line is that team always do just what they wanted to and nothing else.

Teams can play around with the books all they want, but eventually the checks come due. And being able to roll money over makes it all count too.

I think the player bolded is a little better than maybe the fans and even coaches anticipated.

Mistake? Yes. However, i seriously doubt the money tied up in Brinkley cost them Murray or any other player they realistically had a shot at signing.

A minor blemish on an otherwise strong couple of years for Jones, McClay & co.

Give it up and stop wasting everyone's time with this garbage. You're not changing my mind and you're not justifying this mistake to anyone else either. Save us all the time and move on.

I don't disagree with that at all. As bad as the Brinkley move looks, the Gachkar signing looks as good.

Yeah... I feel like you'd find a lot of these type of things if you look at every teams signings under a microscope like you are doing.

Our front office is doing a nice job.

I think Brinkley can still play but they just didn't anticipate some of the younger guys like Keith Smith looking as quality as they are.

IMO, it's a positive thing that the young guys give them the confidence to cut was essentially an insurance policy.

Look up 'mistake' and 'calculated risk'.

Mitigating risk is 90 percent of running a business.

No doubt about it. The only difference is that I'm happy when it's the other teams doing it!

No question about that. And I've never said anything otherwise. But unlike some, I'm not required to like everything and give free passes for mistakes. Some fans have that requirement. I do not.

From a talent perspective? Most definitely. Roster wise, I think they're clearly better off. I'm just not about to forget the fact that they blew $2 million on a guy they were able to replace off the scrap heap. Good talent evaluation on one hand, bad talent evaluation on the other. A hit AND a miss, that ended up costing $2 million.

Take whatever you want from it. You need it to justify this awful mistake. I have no such requirement. I can see them for what they are.

it's easy to sit and point the finger after the fact

Yes, yes it is. It's also easy to applaud every move they make and to pretend like the bad ones never happened. I got the same grief when I dared criticize Jacob Rogers, James Marten, Corey Procter, and David Arkin too. When it happened then I was "rushing to judgement", and when the team finally cut bait if was " why dwell in the past?" For some people, the Cowboys can do no wrong. My fandom holds no such requirements of me.

I praise the good moves and criticize the blunders.

1.375M this year and 625K next year. More than a little but way less than a lot.

My guess is teams lose a lot more than that each year in dead space and loss of productivity.

If Brinkley had stayed but didn't play LB he would never have noticed.
