Detroit tried to pull a Madden type trade on us. There had to be laughing in the war room.

I seriously hope for the sake of the franchise that they sat down and seriously discussed the offer like intelligent people rather than just going with some idiotic knee jerk reaction.

Why? Asking for Ware made it a joke.

Matt: Hi Jerry. We'll give you Johnson for your first, second, third, and fourth pick, plus your best defensive player - Ware - for "possibly" the greatest wide receiver ever, but maybe not.

JJ: Yeah, um, ok. :lmao2: :lmao2:

:laugh2: I might consider it if Detroit swapped their 1st round pick this year (C. Johnson),for D. Ware.....If they ( Detroit)threw in their No. 1 pick next year, and the year after! See...We can look stupid too!

Stupid=Millen. BTW.........that would still be rippin' us off.

I thought Calvin Johnson was the one person in this draft worth trading up for. I think he is going to be the best player of this whole draft class and will be a major star.

He wasn't worth what Detroit wanted. They must think that we are as crazy as they are.

No not crazy. Just stupid. Very, very, stupid. Inept would be a compliment.

This is pretty much old news. It was originally reported that they wanted Ware, our first this year AND our first next year IIRC.

I must admit, I've never fallen into an anger-induced coma before. Jerruh agreeing to that deal would have just about done it.

Would have had to have been a HUGE piece of cheese bounce off Jerry's head to consider that.

ANYONE who thinks that that trade was worth any thought at all really does not understand much of anything about the NFL of today. ONLY if we were looking at another Aikman or Elway would that trade even BE worth a single thought. NO WR is worth WARE. NO MATTER WHAT. I don't care if we could have gotten rice or Irvin or anyone. Rushing the passer is the key to defensive football today. Your QB is the key to offensive football. THOSE are the two absolute positions you cannot mess with. Only each are worth the other.

Jerry Jones said before the draft that there were two players that were untouchable for trade offers .. Romo and Ware.

Any stories like this posted now are pure speculation or fabrication ..

If Johnson ends up being the player everyone thinks he'll be, a guy who may redefine the WR position, then I'd trade a LB for him anyday, even Ware, but I wouldn't trade Ware and a #1 pick.

As great as Ware is, he's replaceable...if one really believed Calvin Johnson may be the best WR ever, or even one of the best, I make that swap.

But I know Detroit wasn't interested in a straight up swap either.

And Parcells compared Ware to LT when he was drafted. Coming straight from the horse's mouth who drafted LT, coached him and made him a star. Maybe it's Ware who's not replacable? CJ is a rookie who has done absolutely NOTHING in this league. And now that he's in Detroit, may never do anything in this league. I don't care who the guy is, I don't sell the farm for "potential" no matter how many coyotes are howling it to the moon. And I especially don't do it when I have 2 high quality receivers occupying that very positon already as it is. The only team that would have surely benefited from a trade like this, is Detroit. We would have been holding our breathes till CJ's first pro bowl- if that ever came.

Intelligent people discuss all the options presented to them. Was that a good deal? No. But it was a starting point for discussing trade parameters.

Actually, the initial deal that was proposed was a first, second, third and fourth for the #2 pick.

Millen said thrown in Ware and you got a deal. That's when it became laughable.

That's called negotiation - would you have done it for less than Ware? For Carpenter? For Canty?

Those are all issues that the team needed to discuss -- and you don't do that if you just hang up the phone and start laughing.

So what's your point? That they didn't do exactly what you were afraid of, except possibly laugh when Millen said you have to throw in Ware?

I saw an article where Millen basically bragged about he played hardball with a number of teams, not just Dallas. They wanted to get some team, any team, to allow themselves to be taken to the cleaners.

Detroit needs multiple players to get better. One all world receiver (maybe) doesn't make them significantly better in my opinion. If Millen was smart, I think he should have traded down for multiple picks. There were apparently offers that would have given him multiple 1st and 2nd round picks. Just another example of why he sucks as a GM.

Same point I've been making -- all offers need to be discussed seriously. Folks who were saying "I hope he laughed in their face" etc. are being stupid. Silly posturing like that doesn't do any good. Smart teams discuss every possible angle.

So, apparently we're smart...

And we laughed in their faces.
