Bob Glauber, of Newsday, reports the Dallas Cowboys are interested in free-agent WR Matt Jones (Jaguars) as a possibility, but only after the NFL determines whether he will face additional sanctions as a result of his parole violation.

This is the SAME GUY that said this SAME STUFF on 1st Take and claimed that it was because of his Arkansas roots and that we released TO. This guy is a joke, stop hoping to "break" a story.

But barely a month ago you panned the idea due to "off the field" issues. And you made that statement after TO was released, so if Jones wasn't the answer to our depth problems then, why now?

I don't know, I guess I revisited it and thought differently.

And I'm not trying to say that he's 'the answer', merely that he's a low-risk option if the Cowboys didn't like what was available to them in the draft.

Again, I'm not campaigning for the move like I did in the past before Jones' drug incident, but I also don't think it would be the worst move in the world either.

I'm the 'leave no stone unturned' type when it comes to getting football players on the cheap.

If you can get a guy like Matt Jones, Toniu Fonoti, or JP Losman, I'm all for taking a look.

well, im going on record here;

i am all for having high character players here and not have players with issues;

since we cleaned out the locker room mostly of players with issues, like supposedly T O, Adam Jones, Tank Johnson, Tony Curtis whom didnt get it on blocking on punt coverage, etc.

Some, like Pacman and Tank, not so well.

But others, like Terry Glenn, and Keyshawn, and Marc Colombo, worked out well for the most part.

All had 'issues' in various ways.

It just depends on the individual 'issues' and the individual player.

This is pathetic, I can't believe Jerry, Stephen or anybody else associated with the Dallas Cowboys association would entertain the thought for even a second.

It'll be a wasted roster space. He'll lapse again, he'll be suspended, we'll have to deal with things just like we did with Adam Jones. No no and no, horrible idea to bring in Matt Jones

He was a bust, anyway. It didn't work. Move on.

I can understand not wanting Jones based on his drug bust.

But I really can't understand why people call him a bust while pimping Miles Austin.

We reason that Austin came from a small school and had to develop into a receiver, so he's given a pass for not really producing much more than a tease in three seasons.

Jones came from a large school and was a first-round pick, so he's a bust for taking four seasons to make the transition from quarterback to receiver and catch 65 passes in 13 games as his team's No. 1 receiver ... on a team that didn't have any other real receiving options other than running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

So let me recap: A receiver making the transition to receiver with 13 catches in 2008 = future star. A quarterback making the transition to receiver with 65 catches in 2008 = bust.

I don't get it.

So we should get rid of Gerald Sensabaugh and Anthony Spencer?

I don't get it.

I think emotion has a lot to do with it.

People can't separate the player from where he was drafted.

They also can't separate his abilities from his screw-up.

And I can't blame anyone who doesn't want him. That's their right.

And Matt Jones has given people reason to not want him on this team.

People finally stopped telling me jokes about Dallas Cowboys not having yardage markers on the field thanks to Irvin, I don't want them to start up again. No thanks.

I think it's easy to understand people not wanting him based on his drug bust, and I don't have a problem with that.

But so many people act like just because he was a first-round pick, he was either supposed to become a great receiver immediately or be a bust. (BTW, I thought Jacksonville was foolish for taking a project in the first round at that time.)

Some people give no leeway to the fact that he had to learn to play receiver, while they give all the leeway in the world to a small-school receiver having to learn to play NFL receiver.

I don't see much difference in their transition, and actually believe the one from QB to receiver is more difficult since you have to learn to run routes, catch the ball while being hit, etc. In fact, I doubt Jones is a finished product yet.

I have no animosity toward Austin in his transition because we still don't know how he might turn out and we want him to succeed. But I think the animosity toward Jones in his transition is, like you said, because of when he was drafted, and because he's not one of ours.

Jones has given people reason to not want him on this team, but it's not because he is a bust.

Well if Dallas does have interest in him then I say go for it and I hope that we get him cheap.. I would rather give a chance to prove himself here in Dallas than anywhere else. But Jerry if his problems exist even after we get him... Trade him or let him go quickly!:starspin :starspin :starspin

I think it depends on what happens in the draft. If we get a receiver early, then I don't think Jerry Jones adds him. If a receiver doesn't fall to us until late, then I can see the move being made.

Oh great. So we just got rid of one bonehead with off the field stupidity and now we'd be interested in another one?

Please no.
