Bob Glauber, of Newsday, reports the Dallas Cowboys are interested in free-agent WR Matt Jones (Jaguars) as a possibility, but only after the NFL determines whether he will face additional sanctions as a result of his parole violation.
He has the physical tools we need, I'd definitely take a look.

I'll believe that when I see it, Glauber...

Jerry just spent a busy offseason getting rid of the problem children, now he's gonna bring another one in??

That would be downright schizophrenic of him... I believe he's got a touch of megalomania in him, with his insistence on being the center of every move made, but I haven't seen any signs of schizophrenia...

this is old news thats been regurgitated, and has absolutely no chance of happening...I dont know why you drum it up every couple of weeks

Jones is going to get suspended, maybe for a whole yr...we're not signing him and even if it werent for the drugs, would probably little if any interest

Oh, if it wasn't for the drugs, I could DEFINITELY see the old Razorback being interested in Matt... I remember that he was highly interested in Jones when he came out of college...

But as things stand now, no freakin' way... Glauber is completely clueless if he thinks that would happen...

The guy did have 65 catches last season - in 12 games, do we have any receivers who can say the same?

Who the hell else did the Jags have to catch passes??

RB Maurice Jones-Drew was the next most prolific receivers, with 62 catches, and a lofty 9.1 average... this tells us that Jags QBs were dumping the ball off a lot, because they didn't have any receivers open downfield...

Veteran WR Dennis Northcutt, who has averaged all of 45 catches for every 16 games played, was next with 44 catches...

TE Marcedes Lewis was 4th on the team, with 41 catches... he's had all of 91 catches in 45 NFL games...

The only other receiver with more than 16 catches was Reggie Williams, with 37... he's had 189 catches in 79 games...

IOW, while Matt might have been the Jags' leading receiver, that basically makes him the smartest kid in his special education class... there's a reason why the Jags went and signed Torry Holt to a 3 year deal, their WRs SUCK...

Patrick Crayton could have caught 75 passes in that offense... Matt Jones has a career 13.0 yards per catch average, and has all of 15 TD catches, in 166 total receptions... that's 15 TDs in 64 games played, or a little under 4 TDs for every 16 games played... he might have been the #1 receiver for the Jags, on a GOOD receiving corps he'd be at best the 3rd WR... for the Boys, he might be good for 30-40 catches a season...

We could probably get that from Austin, or an early draft pick this year... and hopefully, neither of those options would have the drug issues Matt brings to the table...

No to Matt Jones, he ain't good enough to justify the baggage he brings with him...

Good! I could care less about his past. I just want to win and if he can help sign him, especially since his contract will be cap friendly. If he fails cut him and it doesnt cost anything.

Is that you, Jerry?

Honestly I'd have to say "so what???"

Crayton caught 50 passes his 1yr as a starter (2007) and had right at 700 yds and 7 tds...and he was at best the 3rd option bheind two all world players in Owens and Witten.

So what?

That's a weak rebuttal at best.

At least put some thought into it.

Crayton had 50 receptions in how many games? 16?

Jones had 65 receptions in 12.

Crayton lined up opposite one of the league's best receivers.

Jones lined up with no other threats around him.

And one of our two 'all world' players is no longer here.

And as of yet, the jury's still out on the 'new guy'.

Like I've said, i someone doesn't want Jones because of his issues, I can appreciate and accept that.

But this attempt to simply label him a 'bust' and broad brush him into being 'worthless' doesn't work.

The fact is that the guy is 26 years old and coming off of his best on the field season as a pro receiver.

First I'm not on board to sign Matt Jones.

But there are reasons to consider him just as there are not to.

The argument they don't want Jones because he's a problem child may have been argued poorly. Sure he's a problem child. But I'm not certain he is the same problem as Tank, Adam, and TO.

Tank apparently would not play his assignments properly esp in disregarding his gap responsibility and trying to make 'big' plays instead. He wasn't a team player and fostered defiance.

TO wasn't a team player and I'm not going into specifics.

Adam Jones was basically the same player as Tank. He would play his own techniques and go off the reservation as well.

You can argue Matt Jones is the same player. But I really don't know other than I can say doing drugs certainly hurts your performance and reflects poorly on the team. So he's certainly not a model player. But does he foster and promote mutiny?

Not always a simple question or answer and no one here really knows all the ins and outs of Matt Jones or the FO/coaches thoughts and perceptions.

This just in.....

Cowboys could not have interest in WR Matt Jones

This comes shortly after reports that claimed the Dallas Cowboys Could have interest in WR Matt Jones...

Who would have thought that the Dallas Cowboys bringing in Matt Jones "may or may not" be a possibility?

Great post.

I'm sure the guy can do some things on the field, and isn't a horrible player, but I'm not interested in them signing another off the field moron who will likely find himself suspended all the time because he's stupid.

I know I'm in the minority and don't blame people for not wanting him after the drug issue, but I think the Cowboys should look at any and all options.

I'm a firm believer in the benefits of getting 'something for nothing' at the NFL level.

Looking at our current #1 receiver, I see a lot of similarities between he and Jones.

And Roy Williams had more catches than Jones' 65 last season exactly once - in 2006. And Jones caught those 65 passes in a poor offense and in just 12 games.

Personally, I don't see Jones getting suspended for an offense he's already been suspened for.

What happened recently is between he and the courts, not the NFL.

Given the Cowboys' current receiver roster, I'd take a chance on Jones for free.

The guy is still just 25 years old (until tomorrow anyway) and he's got 4 years of NFL experience.

Taking a no-risk flyer on him could pay off.

Worst-case, the guy screws up and he's gone for good.

Best-case, you have another receiving option.

I think a lot may depend on what the Cowboys do in this weekend's draft, but I could see them taking a chance on Jones.

I was completely off the Jones bandwagon after his arrest for coke, but I'd be willing to give him a shot, in my opinion, he's not a career criminal type, just an immature kid who screwed up.

He looked to be developing into a decent NFL receiver. It would be a shame if he and the Cowboys wasted the potential.

Didnt anybody ever tell you not to let common sense get in the way of emotion?:laugh1:

Yes, I do see this as a possibility if we have decided to not draft WR high in the draft.

I think it all depends on that. Me, personally though, I'd rather spend a few extra picks to reach up and grab Nicks.
