Cowboys - D.J. Swearinger Backup Safety option **Claimed by Tampa Bay**

Swearinger isn't a bad player and a 6th or 7th seems fair, but he doesn't love football enough to be on this team.

DJ absolutely is a bad player. He's an in the box safety who can't tackle, and he's a total knucklehead to boot.

No thanks.

I wanted him after seeing the highlight clips on him. He's actually pretty good.

However, I don't like the news that he is selfish and doesn't want to play special teams.

If he wants to play in Dallas and wants to help the team win - then I'm all for it.

If he's nothing more than a cancer to the team and divides the locker room, no thanks.

They have a 90 man training camp roster. It does not hurt to take a guy like that to camp and find out if he fits or not.

Texans waived SS D.J. Swearinger.

The 57th overall pick in the 2013 draft, Swearinger wore out his welcome quickly under no-nonsense coach Bill O'Brien, struggling mightily in coverage and often taking bad angles in run defense. The Texans tried trading Swearinger before cutting him, but found no takers, likely because of his bad game tape. Still, Swearinger is only 23 years old and will likely be claimed off waivers.

Jeff Heath frustrates me. Get DJ in here to replace that JAG and impress upon DJ that he's in Dallas now and he WILL play special teams. Marinelli would turn this guy into a beast in the middle.

Admittedly, I'm biased but I'm also being real about it..

But wait, I heard the Vikings recently cut safety Ahmad Dixon. Swearinger or Ahmad Dixon? He had that one awesome preseason game here, remember? What to do? So many choices rummaging through the scraps of other teams. Just maybe we could get both. :)

What's that, Mickey? "If he's so good, why is he available?'

"Struggling mightily in coverage and often taking bad angles in run defense"....that says it all. Fans complain about Wilcox and Church doing this very thing.

He's not anything really worth pursuing -- takes too many bad angles vs. the run and doesn't cover well.

Reviewed the 2013 leaked board:

JJ Wilcox had a 3rd round grade #50th overall, 4th safety
Cowboys had DJ Swearinger with a 3rd round grade #65 overall, 5th safety
New Cowboy Keelan Johnson had a 5th round grade #92 overall, 7th safety
Former Cowboy Jakar Hamilton had a 5th round grade #102 overall, 8th safety
