I think you are optimistic by nature. And that is fine. I like to see it first and Thornton, Crawford, and McClain hasnt shown it yet. Crawford maybe in flashed. Now I like the Thorton pick. I have Philly friends and they told me they will miss the guy. He was great against the run. Seems perfect for what Marinelli wants for the 1 technique. But I have heard nothing about this guy being a big difference maker or a push the pocket pressure player. Pressure in this defense comes from the DE's and the 3 technique. I dont see any pro bowl caliber types on our team at those 3 positions. Lawrence maybe in the future. Crawford cant stay healthy. Can he break out one year? Hope is all we can do at this point. He already dinged up again.

Fair enough.

Yah, I think I am getting him mixed up with another 2nd round pick Lber. What was his name?

Needles to say.........Durant is not better than what McClain brought to the table when he was on the field.

You are thinking of Bruce Carter. But Durant 2014 year would gladly be accepted here again this season

wow, a guy that wants to back up his statement with a bet. I love it.

But first, what is the bet? Do you want me to make an over under bet on number of sacks? How should we proceed?

I say make an over under on sacks and also on overall defensive ppg?

Ah yes...............Carter. I would actually take Carter over Durant. FYI............if you looked at the depth chart just released Durant isnt even playing MLB he is playing the weakside. And is listed as the backup there.

The biggest issue for me is the pass rush. You might sell me on the secondary being competent. You can sell me on Hitchens being at least adequate in replacing McClain. I am sold on the interior of the DL and their run stopping capabilities.

But the pass rush is the biggest issue facing this team IMO.

Let's put it another way. What would some of you think about the Commanders pass rush if they started the season with this as their pass rush set up?

- A 4th round pick
- A practice squad player from last year
- A cast off from the Raiders with 2 career sacks
- A journeyman type DE
- The best pass rusher out for four games for failing a drug test
- Arguably the most talented pass rusher on the team out for 4 games as well and people questioning if his head is really in the game to begin with

God, I hope it works out. I hope to hell Tapper (a pick I loved) bucks the trend and is a fairly dominant pass rushing end right from the get go. I hope the scouts are dead on that Mayowa is a diamond in the rough. But a lot of things have to go right for this team to make a marked improvement in getting to the QB.

Cowboys up 3 or 4, Packers have the ball on their own 20 with 3 minutes to go. Do you trust the above to be able to create pressure that can prevent Rodgers from carving us up? At this point, I think if people are honest, the answer to that question is scary.

Ok.............I will do both.

Ill try to make this fair.......................

In 2014 they had 28 sacks, in 2015 they had 31 sacks...........................I will pick a fair over under of 31 sacks. With the offense getting leads and making the other team one dimensional, it should help increase the total.

In 2014 they gave up 22 points per game, in 2015 it was 23.4 points per game. I will pick a fair over under of 22.5 points per game.

I am obviously taking the under on sacks and the over on PPG and you the opposite correct?

And what happens to the guy that loses the bet?

I think that is about is good a way to put it as possible. With the sorry pass rush I dont see how this defense is good enough.

Okay I accept those terms and I will take the over on sacks and the under on points. Loser has to change his signature to a choosing of the winners. From the end of this season until the beginning of next season.

This scheme has never worked in Dallas. The 1 technique has always been the red headed step child with Marinelli. Im glad we upgraded, but I doubt this guy is all of a sudden going to command a double team. He didnt command that consistently in Philly. Thorton has all of 2 or 3 sacks his entire career? What is going to change here?

The rebuild based upon the turn-around following the lock out, has been successful. First, the resources went to the offensive line. The team had to also stick to rebuilding the cap, from that point. It was based upon selection of top physical trait players. But roster spots were determined by the best group of instincts at position.

But thing here, is that offense was the first priority. After that was staffed with preferred players, with the change in Scouting...the defensive side has been primarily addressed over the past two seasons. To be fair, one more draft and current development of talent has to be given a chance. That is what it is...no matter how many complaints one comes up with. Be patient and give it a valid chance...stay away from sky is falling views.
If someone throws you in the lineup because they have no one better then by definition you are a starter. But he is a low end starter. That is why we didnt resign him and that is why the next team that did cut him. And its why he wasnt signed when we did sign him. Any way you slice it he is a stop gap addition. He may be starting for the Cowboys, but he probably wouldnt be starting for 80% of the rest of the league.

The 'no better' isn't by itself, a fail. That depends on quality in the backup group as well...proven or not.

Hey, step up to the line and declare that one is an underdog, from the start...huh?

Agreed, but lets make sure that the signature is something reasonable. Lets have fun with this. Agreed on the off season time period. DEAL!!!!

So each of us has to basically go two for two? If we split then its a wash right?

Correct a split is a wash. And don't worry i won't make you put anything crazy up. Just something like "Jstopper told me the defense would be good but I just couldn't see it happening. I was wrong and maybe in the future i won't view the team as such a pessimist" :p

LOL.........welll balanced? The team couldnt be more lopsided. Opportunistic? They are devoid of play makers, pass rush will be horrid and there are no ball hawks in the secondary. Our two starting defenisve ends are suspended, ONLY one is coming back and our starting MLB is toast and we just signed a guy two weeks ago to replace him. This defense could not be more upside down and in shambles. I have never seen anything like it.

And for you to say this team is WELL balanced is completely laughable.
