In 2015, ranked #32 in Takeaway/Giveaway ratio, the worst in the NFL and the worst in the history of this franchise.

Nothing influences a game like turnovers.

In 2015 the Cowboys had a total of 11 takeaways. Are you kidding me?

That neutralizes anything you see in the yardage and points category. While most offenses enjoy excellent field position once or twice a game, the Cowboy offense very rarely had that opportunity, as if things weren't challenging enough.

OK, so if you want to grade him by a made up statistic "pass rushing grade" he's top ten. Their overall grade for him is 13th. PFF is a joke.

Uhhhh you're the one who CITED the ARTICLE to try and make me look stupid, bud. So yea, I want to grade him by a statistic that isn't made up but simply is a bit more advanced and analytic for those who may not be able to comprehend?

We need a few guys to step up and be better than we expect. Someone one.. Anyone..

We have to drastically increase our takeaways. I'm fine with our Yards & PPG but the takeaways has to rise.

The football nerd in me is kind of excited for this defensive line but the realist in me just tells me to not expect a whole lot.

Ultimately, winning is all that matters. How you do it, doesn't. I believe this is a very well-balanced team, believe it or not. The offense is clearly the identity, but as a result of that offense, I believe we will be seeing a much more opportunistic defense. The Cowboys offense is going to force team's to air it out more and as a result the opportunities to get take-aways will be there. Here's hoping our DB's are spending extra time on jug the machines...they're gonna need it.

You changed the goalposts. I never said it was a great lb corp so nice way to deflect. You said it was 100% worse and I asked you to explain how it is worse with the same personnel plus improvements?

Fine I will make it simple for you.

McClain was way better than Durant. And that being the MLB position which is the most important.

LOL.........welll balanced? The team couldnt be more lopsided. Opportunistic? They are devoid of play makers, pass rush will be horrid and there are no ball hawks in the secondary. Our two starting defenisve ends are suspended, ONLY one is coming back and our starting MLB is toast and we just signed a guy two weeks ago to replace him. This defense could not be more upside down and in shambles. I have never seen anything like it.

And for you to say this team is WELL balanced is completely laughable.

Also now funny that Ragland and Jaylon could be hitting the field ariund the same time, easy to second guess the draft but you can never tell how its going to work out

McClain started the year suspended and when he came back took even more games to get in playing shape. Just on availability Durant has him beat. McClain took half the plays off and was nowhere near his 2014 form so no he is not way better than Durant. And we are talking about the lb corps as a whole not just the MLB position. We have MUCH better depth right now than we did last year.

McClain was a VERY good MLB. Blows Durant away when he was playing. The guy was an intimidator and nearly led the team in tackles even while missing 4 games did he not? Durant is a castoff veteran that nobody wanted.

Better depth? Another ridiculous statement. Same people as last year accept our starter is gone. If we had such great depth then we wouldnt have had to go out and sign a FA now would we have?

We have ONE starting caliber player at LB and the rest are all backup material. Time to face reality. Hoping, wishing, and making up fantasies in your head wont help them on the field.

Believe what you want Roy. Reality will show you how off base you are very soon.

Cmon bro.........................a month ago you were talking about how on paper we were as good if not better than the 2014 squad on defense. And McClain was a great linebacker back then.

And I have a feeling that ANY linebacker they signed you would be saying he is now better than McClain. How can you possibly sit here and say that having to go out and scramble to sign a castoff veteran FA MLB makes this team better?

McClain last year was 3rd on the team in tackles with 80 and he only played in 11 games. He also had 2 sacks and 1 Int for a TD. Not world breaking, but you factor in the 5 games he missed because of suspension and that averages out to 116 tackles. Those are very good numbers.

I completely agree that his attitude and unreliable nature in ways makes us a better team, but on the field, Durant can not replace what he brought. But we are splitting hairs anyway. Neither player would have made this defense good. Both are stop gap players until Jaylon Smith comes in. Now next year you might have a case for improvement.

McClain has the physical talent and football skills to be great. Him and Sean Lee should be deadly together. But he doesn't care about football he is lazy and he keeps getting popped on drug tests. If he weren't all those things then yes he is better than Durant. But he's not available or dependable and Durant is. The same way they say you can't make the club from the tub? Same effect here. Durant was quite good here in 2014. I agree jaylon is the future and will help us more than either of these guys. But I still say this defense is better than the 2014 version. Our week 1 lineup on dline that year was Mincey, Hayden, Crawford, Selvie. I really think you guys forget how terrible our lineup was.

Speaking of Jaylon Smith I can't wait to see what he can do. Just hopefully the knee will hold up in the future.

Agree with some of what you say here. But please explain to me why you guys keep comparing our D this year to the D in 2014. They have nothing to do with one another. How is that even relevant?

Because that defense wasn't bad it was average, and this defense personnel looks better than that year and yet people are convinced this defense will be bad. Not with our offense it won't be.

Average is bad to me. If its not good, its bad. Maybe a little too generalizing. And again, I dont buy that the defense is better because of an offense. You are either good or bad, nothing to do with the offense. Now will the "yards given up" and the "points given up" stats give a false impression because the Offense is hogging the ball? Now that I can agree with.

But this team will have a "bad" pass rush that I can say with confidence. I dont care if they appear better than the 2014 version or not. They are definitely worse than the 2015 version and that team was bad in the pass rush.

Turnovers seems to be a bit of a mystery. bad pash rush and lack of play makers in the secondary typically has meant low turnovers. But when the offense goes off and we run the ball teams seems to take more chances and that leads to turnovers like 2014. So who knows there. Frankly, I think the turnover thing in 2014 was a fluke.
