I'm going to watch Detroits games from last year in my free time before I pass judgement. I do like that they SEEM to get vertical and that they force the ball to Megatron though.

This team has no idea what it wants to do.

I think Garrett knows what he wants to do, and has a vision for it. Whether it's the right vision or not is debatable. It's Jerry that doesn't know what he wants. Anything that another team does well, he wants it, too. Leads to a lot of changes in direction.

I think this is probably correct.

By who? Jim Garrett? Lacewell?

Several people have mentioned it publicly. Jimmy Johnson did. Kiffin mentioned it last season, I believe, that one of the reasons Garrett played a year in Tampa was to pick his brain re the defense there at the time. The one who said it the most was was Troy Aikman, whose been talking about it since the mid-90s.

I haven't heard anything specifically from Jim Garrett or Lacewell, but they know him fairly well, so they probably see it too. Not, I mean, like a casual fan like yourself, of course, but they probably at least had some idea.

Is the "process" just throwing poo at the wall and hoping something sticks? First the defensive switch without the personnel, and now the team is looking at 3 different play callers in the past 3 seasons. Where is the "continuity" that keeping clownshoes around was supposed to bring?

Linehan also coordinated the number one and number four rushing attacks in 2002 and 2003 for the Vikings.

It sure seems like if he has had ability to run the ball, he has.

@nickeatman: Sounds like the passing game coordinator is back to valley ranch again.. Scott Linehan is expected to be the third playcaller in 3 years

So Jerry's trumping Garrett's authority?

I agree, Jason wants to hang on to his $3 -$4 million per season at any cost, that is his vision and he is realizing it.

The Dallas Cowboys believe they have a potential solution for internal disagreements over the direction of their offense.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the Cowboys have discussed hiring former Detroit Lionsoffensive coordinator Scott Linehan, per a source informed of the Cowboys' plans. It's not clear what position he would coach, but calling plays is one option and the two sides have made contact, according to Rapoport.

ESPN's Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen first reported the news.

One source told ESPN that Linehan could have the title of passing game coordinator with the designation as the team's playcaller. The source expects Linehan to be hired.

Jason Garrett ceded playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan last year, but the owner-driven arrangement led to internal dysfunction as the Cowboyszigged and zagged to their third consecutive 8-8 finish. Werder speculated that Linehan would serve as a compromise choice for Jerry Jones and Garrett.

Linehan was among the Lions assistants let go after Jim Schwartz was fired this month. Under Linehan, the Lionsfinished sixth, third and fifth in total offense over the past three seasons. Linehan is known for his pass-heavy approach -- he's unlikely the man to solve theCowboys' balance issues on offense in recent years.

Linehan interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday and is believed to be a finalist for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Jones said at the Reese's Senior Bowl this week that both Callahan and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will return in 2014. They also just signed their kicker to a seven-year, $22.5 million deal. This is a hard team to figure out right now.

Ozzie Newsome is viewed as one of the best GMs in football. If he is looking at Linehan as the Ravens OC then it has to be a good move.

Ozzie also looked at Garrett.

Exactly. The echo chamber around here makes it seem like Jerry never makes a good move. If the Ravens had signed him and won the Super Bowl, Jerry would've been blasted for letting the next Sean Payton get away again.

So how will this work...Linehan will call the pay and send it to Callahan who sends it to Garrett who sends it to Jerry who will sent it to Tony so that he can change it at the line....sounds like a plan....well atleast a plan only Dallas sees as a good idea.

Well I was commenting more about how Ozzie isn't exactly immune from a bad decision.

To me, this is just embarrassing. We're telling the world we don't have anyone on our coaching staff who is good enough to call plays, but they are all good enough to keep around. We just need to find someone to call the plays for them.

Sad.
