Looking to lock him up long term, the deal not only keeps Jarwin in Dallas until '23 but cements him as the long term No. 1 option at the position. Witten the roster hog needs to retire because he sure isn't running to Garrett too fast as he said he would.

I've long said I'd rather just pay Jarwin than go TE shopping in free agency or the draft. Glad to see the Cowboys agree.

Every player isn't going to be a star, plus I think there is likely some nice upside we didn't take advantage of with Witten getting so many snaps last year

You extend a TE that could not beat out the starting line up a 80 year old TE. Jarwin can not and does not block.
You let walk a 4 time Pro Bowl WR that had 8 TDs and a 90 yard TD to add to his 6 TD in 1/2 a season in Dallas.
Jerry and Stephen Jones as I have said over and over do not want to win Super Bowls, but wants to make money period. The fire a back to back Super Bowl winning coach, pass on Randy Moss, let go their entire Pro Bowl defense from 2006, 2016, and now let walk a WR they gave up a no.1 pick for a season and 1/2 of work. Then you create team declension by franchise tagging a 2 time pro bowl and playoff appearing QB who has only played 4 years in the league.
Cowboy fans have been played for a joke since 1995.

He was a restricted free agent and we give him 8 million a year before proven anything? I guess it's probably a 2 year deal with big escalator in year 3, but still not priortizing the right contracts. Next we'll hear about Colluns re-signing for 10 a year.

Who were the pro-bowl defenders they let go from the 2006 squad? DeMarcus Ware was the only defensive pro-bowler that I can recall from that team.
Just about everyone passed on Randy Moss.
The Cooper saga hasn't yet been decided.

If they are really paying THAT much money to Jarwin, then this team is definitely going with a spread formation and away from the power run game.

McCarthy is not going to ask Jarwin to block inline like Witten.
He is going to use him as an H-back. He is going to split him out wide. He is going to put him in the slot, or in bunch formations. he is going to use him to run run routes.
McCarthy knows how to use a guy like Jarwin. Garrett didn’t.
Jarwin’s job isn’t going to be blocking anymore. It’s going to be winning mismatches with his size and athleticism.
