Good money, under the radar....good gig
I wish I could have lucked into something like this. Get paid nicely to do something related to football. Enjoy all the perks of being part of a professional sport. Never have any real fear of accountability. Just make recommendations & let Jerry make final decisions.

I have always wondered if people who breeze thru life get the full after life rewards or if some is held back to balance the scales a little.

I feel like McClay is overrated. Living off the hype of past drafts.
I don't mean to belittle anyone's efforts but when they list his "accomplishments" it strikes me that even the worst organizations "select" good players.

I mean you could pretty much take a concensus draft ranking & have a decent draft most years without doing a lick of player evaluation yourself.

Will McClay wants no part of being an actual GM.
Why should he. He’s receiving GM money without the responsibility and accountability associated with GM which he’d of been fired.

With our dysfunctional ownership he’s like this shining star in a pool of turds that feeds them enough talent to remain relevant most years. Nowhere else is mediocrity rewarded as such. Lol

Facts anyone tied to the GM operation here has failed..no way around it.

“Girl you know it’s true…..” LOL.

Thing that bugs me about McClay is the constant referencing of, or trying to justify passing on better players due to “scheme fit,” when they constantly change schemes.

I mean yeah I guess they have hit on a couple of late rounders but the day two failures have killed this team of late.

They need to compensate for bust draft picks with free agency…and I’ve even heard the both of them say exactly that. Then something changed. Stephen must have some expensive girlfriends.
Mcclay makes the draft board ge doesn't draft the players

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/...i-year-contract-extension-for-2025-and-beyond

FRISCO, Texas — What is arguably the biggest news of the Dallas Cowboys' offseason has landed, and not long after the team named Brian Schottenheimer as the tenth head coach in franchise history; and this time it's by way of a new deal being struck with Will McClay.

The team's vice president of player personnel has officially signed a multi-year contract extension that will keep him in Dallas for the foreseeable future, on a five-year deal, to be more specific, per the team's front office.

This is gargantuan news for the Cowboys, who ushered in a new era of scouting when they initially added McClay to their payroll as a pro scout in 2002. He'd serve in that role through 2008 before being promoted to pro scout coordinator and, in 2011, director of football research.

The man that most believe to be the most critically important contributor to any success the Cowboys organization has on the field is staying put, despite a vast sea of current offseason changes all around him.

Will McClay, the team’s vice president of player personnel, has signed a multiyear extension to remain with the Cowboys, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

The 58-year-old has been with the Cowboys since 2002, first as a pro scout, and he’s served in his current role since 2017. He signed his most recent contract in 2022, but that deal expired earlier in January along with the deals of the rest of the Cowboys coaching staff.

McClay has been considered a potential general manager candidate for other clubs in the past. The Commanders, Panthers, and Chargers all requested permission from the Cowboys to interview him for their open GM positions just last year before McClay announced he “didn’t want to waste anybody’s time” and wouldn’t be fielding offers to leave Dallas.

They need to figure out what the hell went wrong the last two drafts.

Before that, the Cowboys weren’t the best drafting league in the league over the last decade.

People didn't like the Parsons pick when it happened. People really didn't like the Tyler Smith pick. McClay and his scouts have given the team some outstanding players. Having him around is a good thing.
