one is injured all the time the other likes to smoke fits right in with the rest of the team.

So? Is that small past a melt down affair?

That's a ton of 'garbage' to deal with in this world of ours?

Motivation will arrive at players in Dallas right now, because of the quality of people running it...as to always injured and fat? C'mon now, both have pedigree of strong first round picks....at least this fan is betting on that quality if for nothing else.

All because you sign Rolando McClain and Claiborne does not mean we won't be looking at linebackers in the draft. If you can get McClain for cheap, sign him.

There are only about 3 solid starting CBs in this FA, and you need all 3 of them will be getting good contracts. So, we let Claiborne walk and cut Carr, you better hope you hit on a solid rookie corner and sign one of those big CB FA.

Both would be good signings for us.

Now this is the ticket.

Would a secondary with Scandrick, Carr, Claiborne, Ramsey and Jones be worth paying attention to?

How about a linebacker group that has Sean Lee at WOL and Rolando McClain at MLB?

Would a Durant make them look even better at SOL?

The only reason we're looking at them is that with all the warts they have, they come in cheap. It's all about value. Former 1st rounders on the cheap give Jerry and Co a sense of accomplishment. Never mind that there are valid reasons nobody else wants them.

If we sign Claiborne, I'd cut Carr and look to FA for his replacement. If those FA CBs are too pricey, look to the draft. Worst comes to worse, Claiborne/Carr and Scandrick would be our outside corners. I guess to answer your question, I want to move on from at least one of our corners and move in another direction. Ramsey and Jones at safety excites me, I look at the Packers addressing their safety position in the past couple drafts and I'm jealous. Both look to be solid players.

Durant would be good depth, but like I said, even bringing back McClain on a reasonable contract, I would go into the draft looking for a player to compete with him. Rolando McClain, Sean Lee, Anthony Hitchens, A FA Linbacker (Justin Durant, like mentioned. Maybe Bruce Carter can return), and a rookie would leave me satisfied.

Neither would have any problem moving on to another team that welcomes them into their players and with good contracts as well...bet on it.

I agree it's about value, but the reason they do this is to cover some holes so they don't get pidgeon holed into drafting for need. It's about insurance.

Cowboys' Free Agent Strategy Starting To Take Shape With Pursuit Of Rolando McClain And Morris Claiborne

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2016...-take-shape-with-pursuit-of-mcclain-claiborne

While many NFL teams have already reached agreement with some of their own free agents, the Dallas Cowboys have not gotten any names on the dotted line. But according to comments from team VP Stephen Jones, who oversees the personnel department, the first two free agents they are going after are linebacker Rolando McClain and cornerback Morris Claiborne.

This is the first real indication of the overall strategy the Cowboys will take in free agency. Although it remains to be seen if the team will actually make much progress with either player, it certainly looks like they want to try and get deals with them on their terms, before the prices start to escalate with the start of free agency on March 9. It is a poorly kept secret that teams engage heavily in sub rosa discussions with agents during the NFL Combine, when team executives and agents all flock to Indianapolis. This is a time when both sides can begin feeling out how much demand there may be for various players. The Cowboys are looking to find out just how expensive it would be to go ahead and lock up one or both, and if they are prepared to pay that price now. The team obviously hopes that the demand is soft enough to not have to commit too much.

Dallas uses free agency to address needs to focus on finding the best players in the draft. McClain and Claiborne both represent clear needs for the team. While they have had some issues, notably McClain's four-game suspension in 2015 and the injury-plagued career for Claiborne to date, both were important pieces for the defense last season. It is notable that Jones did not indicate any interest in re-signing Greg Hardy, a stance that was echoed by head coach Jason Garrett during his press conference at the Combine...

Well we have to keep some of our players.

At the rate people on this forum want to get rid of players we'll have a hard time fielding 30 players let alone 46.

Agreed. (coughing) They must believe in assisting the 1/3 rd roster turn overs.

Reclamation implies damaged goods. I hardly call any football player as lacking from the start.

So, one would prefer to try a player who has not shown previous skill sets and talent?

Sir Jerry has never met a journeyman that he does not love and want to keep forever.

I endorse getting players on the cheap. Yet, players who play for the cheap are often not worth the cheap money. But Sir Jerry has never learned that. He looks at the cap then he looks at the players in the shower and there you go.

I disagree with the presented premise...Jerry came up as a wildcatter and he values the demands of a gamble while still respecting those putting all really on the line. A blow over on a rig, took center stage throughout Texas. And he lived with that also...as does he with players on his team. Respect, first...

and if unknown, a blow over is when a well blows up and reaches unbearable temps.

I will answer with this quote from our GM:

"He’s a thing of beauty on throwing a football. His passing motion and his arm, frankly, you won’t see a more gifted passer, power, accuracy, the entire aspect of it."

– Jerry Jones on Brandon Weeden.

Blimey!
Cut down on the salt water effluent and the drill bit pressure and you get fewer blowovers, CC. You can give that advice (free) to Sir Jerry.

Do not talk down to me CC. I did my time in the North Sea oilfields and the Permian Basin, heh.
