Just got back from the game. I live in Maryland and made my first trip down to Texas stadium to see our season opener. Now I have heard stories about how quiet so to speak Texas stadium is - so I was going to the game already with low expecations but WOW I must say I was and still am thoroughly dissapointed. Sitting there watching the game at Texas stadium and we are americas team and we literally dont even have a home field advantage.

The fans dont even make much noise in obvious situaions like 3rd downs for the giants. Cowboy fans dont even talk trash to opposing teams fans - I mean sheesh they are NOT supposed to be welcome in our house. Now by no means am I saying we should physically harrass these people but there is nothing wrong with giving them a little crap. Like I said earlier I live in MD and I go to Fed ex every year to catch the skins boys games and I go in expecting to get verbally harrassed by other fans. I hate to say it but frickin fed ex field ROCKS and when I say rocks I literally mean ROCKS - like the stadium shakes. Now albeit they have over 91,000 fans and Texas stadium only holds about 65,000 - so hopefully when we open our new stadium it will be better. At least I can hope. Am I reaching here or are the added 15-20k of fans not going to make a difference? Because I feel this is our only hope.

I know this has been covered before because I have read posts concerning it but even expecting it to be quiet it was still surprising how bad our so called home field advantage is. Someone please help us fix this or give me reason for hope because if you ask me , if we can get our new stadium to rock it will be a HUGE advantage to our dallas cowboys.

I've gone to nearly every Dallas game in DC for the past 20 years and I can say that Fed-ex does not ROCK. The noise level there is no better than most stadiums. Now RFK is a different story - that place was crazy ot really did rock to the point you would think sections would collapse from the stomping of the aluminum floors.

I love how we have these threads every year. Dallas isn't the midwest or northeast. It's not going to change. Get over it.

Dallas fans have always been noted for the "good show, we expect nothing less than victory" mentality. I think it's healthy, they get emotional during playoff time but the crowd isn't subject to volatile mood swings like Philly and New York or abrasive hate like Oakland and Philly and New York again.

Cowboy fans act like they've done it before, because they have.

They applaud victory but also expect it so don't act with knee jerk emotion or overzealous euphoria after victory.

Landry instilled that and it never left town.

Stadium acoustics can both amplify and diminish the level of crowd noise. The infamous raucousness of the Metrodome is due largely to the fact that it is, in fact, a dome.

if the players are all "buddy, buddy" why should fans be any different? this is not the 70s... players dont care about rivals why should the fans?

You could say that about almost all college teams. That's what happens when most of the people in the stadium are aged 18-22.

And drunk from tailgating ;)

I know, Ive been to my share of Arizona State University games.

I'll take the more passive Texas style than the drunken ludeness/rudeness in other stadiums...those other fans aren't my enemy they have their reasons for liking the team of their choosing...I don't need to pour beer on them and call them or their team names...I am not into barbaric behavior nor should it be supported...It is not in the name of fun so don't bring that lame game here...it is inexcusable behavior.

Those people who support violence or rude and obnoxious behavior should be permanently banned from attending any public place without police escort...

Now cheering your favorite team on to victory is fine and expected but keep the barbaric behavior out of it....more power to the fans of Dallas

Very well said. It is great to cheer for your team as loud as you can and boo the opposition as loud as you want, but if you want to get stupid drunk and obnoxious go to a egirl or giant or jet game, you will fit right in.

Well you can take your "gentlemen's" approach to the other team but it isn't helping your team at all! Ever hear of the 12th man? I'm not a fan of harrassing other fans, but a loud crowd is a must! I watched the game on TV and could tell the place was quiet. I watch football all day long and it's the only game where you don't really hear crowd noise! I'm sure other teams love coming to Dallas to play. It's like a home away from home.

I don't think you can really tell from TV, though. You can only really tell that the crowd noise is escalated when the sound capture guys amp up the crowd noise when the announcers are silent for a moment.

That said, there have been other NFC East players (Chris Cooley, for example) who have said that Dallas is loudest place to play - so who knows?

I will say that I have never noticed Texas Stadium rocking and rolling the way some more blue-collar stadiums do on crucial third downs, or obvious passing situations when your defense can really benefit from the linemen not hearing the snap count. Maybe Texas crowds are just not very football educated. Just from most of the Cowboys fans I end up meeting, I can see how that might be true.

Living here in NJ, and having been to Texas Stadium and others here in the norhteast I can tell you that the noise is soft compared to others. I guess its more of a college & highschool state than pro. Up here you put EVERYTHING into the pro game. When I watch the games on TV it seems the noise at Texas Stadium is led by Rowdies antics than whats going on down on the field. Pretty Weeeny !!!
Heck, the Cowboys fans that attend their away games are MUCH more avid than the softies at TS.
That's why I firmly believe that the true, REAL Cowboys fans live outside of Texas. After all, THAT'S why we are America's Team.

Maybe you were at a different game than the rest of us because i was in section 26 and that stadium wasnt quiet when we were on defense, especially 3rd down. Although it did quiet down towards the end, swiss cheese D will do that to ya

Well said.

It's a shame that a responsible parent can no longer take a child to a game.

I really think that a lot of people forgot how to enjoy themselves without the aid of alcohol. I almost wish law enforcement mandated venues enforce public drunkeness laws. Too drunk to drive, too drunk to be in the stadium.

I think we have discussed this before and came up with two pretty good reasons why Texas Stadium isn't historically as loud as some others.

1) Dallas is a Metroplex where most people working and living in and around Dallas did not grow up there. So they all don't have the family history of going to games with Dad & Grandpa growing up, like in blue collar towns like Philly, Pitts, NY, Cleve, etc.

2) The fact that Dallas is not a blue collar town brings a different type of fan in general. It is more of a white collar crowd, which tends to not get as rowdy or loud overall.

I have noticed that TS is not generally as loud as some stadiums, but I can't say anything, because I'm not really a vocal fan myself. I normally just sit there and watch every detail going on on the field and as much as I can off the field on the sidelines.

I guess that comes from coaching for 16 yrs.

I have seen Dallas play in Eastern cities, Cleve, Pitts, Charlotte, but I have never been to a game in TS.
I really really hope to get to one before we move to the new stadium.

I have been to TS and have taken the tour, but it was in June or July.
