I live in MD as well and went to the boys game at fedex last year and it was cray loud. Ive actually been there the past 3 years.
At one point last season the crowd was so loud, and you saw Romo call for the snap but the ball never came and he had to call a timeout. You couldnt even hear yourself think.
I've never been to texas stadium so i dont know how its like there, but if its anything like its being suggested, thats disappointing.
On the point of harassing other fans, if thats not done in texas stadium, im ok with that. Those people are just coming to watch a football game like you, the final score will depress them enough :) !
At fedex there are alot of fights and people getting kicked out of the stadium, thats not any fun to see.

I think there are some acoustical issues there, too. I was at the Indy game last year, and I know that everywhere I looked people were on their feet screaming, but I don't think it was too loud on television.

Also, regarding other fans - I LIKE having opposing teams near me. I learn a lot about their team and get some good information.

I really believe that two things have increased the boorish behavior at most venues.

First the internet. Stories of ill-treatment at the opposing team's stadium spread like wildfire on the internet whether they're almost always embellished or not. They treat us badly, we'll treat them badly.....

Second is the increase in ticket prices. Most would think this would improve the crowd behavior, getting a white collar and seemingly more well behaved crowd on hand but it doesn't. All that's really happened though is a more transient crowd. Instead of a couple of games a year, Joe twelve-pack can only afford one and ****** if he's only going to one game he's going to get liquored and enjoy himself, damn the consequences. Someone's more than willing to sell him a ticket because there's money to be made.

I hope the home of Cowboys never falls prey to the rabid jerkishness that's become the trademark of most stadiums in the north east.

I went to Notre Dame/Penn State and was appalled at the overall behavior in the stands. Language that would make a sailor blush chanted by parts of the crowd. I've always had positive experiences as a visitor to Beaver Stadium in the past and assumed that the home of a class act like Paterno would remain a bastion of civility. I was wrong.

good post. I dont mind it either way, people can be as rowdy as they want, as long as they dont ask me to move for them during a play...

I am curious how some judge fans...Apparently according to this thread the only real fans are the intoxicated ones who start fights and get in everyones face.

So I have a question for those people. There is a family that sits three rows down from me. The woman has to be in her early 70s and her husband too. They have about 8 or more season tickets. I talk to her now and then before games. She has attended every game at texas stadium and has had the season tickets every season texas stadium has been open. She stands up and claps and waves a towel and they cheer and get into it on third down. She is in her 70s, like I said. I see her talk to other teams fans all the time. She is polite, pleasant and dedicated to the team.

So I am curious, is she a bad fan. Or does she just not live up to this nonsense about how stadiums should be filled with fights and trailer trash yelling and having domestic disputes etc....

Its funny too, because I went to the vet a couple of times. 01 and 02 are the last times I went. I dont remember the vet as loud, not any louder as far as noise goes than texas stadium and their new stadium is not loud at all, in fact the cowboys players and sham and laufenberg constantly remark about how they lost that home field atmosphere and that intimidation of the fans since they moved into the link.

Alot of it is perception. I remember being at a red sox rangers game in sept of 97 on a saturday, there were about 17000 people there on a beautiful day. Does that mean red sox fans suck? Cause I am sure no one would say that now.

Perception and people saying this place is so much louder than another is at the heart of most of this. Some stadiums are exceptionally loud like the old buffalo, and fed ex. fed ex has 25000 more fans in there though, so that isnt really fair, especially since I recall 03 in the third quarter when we were shutting them out and the stadium was empty. Wasnt too loud then.

I know that the move from the Cotton Bowl to Texas Stadium was the beginning of quieter Cowboys fans when it first happened.

And just how many games did you attend at the Cotton Bowl prior to the move again? 'Cus that'd a been a neat trick!

:p:

Trust me, Dallas fans didn't change a bit between the 2 venues despite what the popular myth may be.

It was one of the points made during the 1971 Cowboys "America's Game" special.

It was the players themselves noting the change, so I took them at their word. :p:

Again, it's become one of those popular myths.

TX Stadium is/was an incredibly stark and ascetically unremarkable facility from the day Billy Graham opened the place in the summer of 71. It's like walking into the inside of a giant cement truck. I think that, more than anything, spawned the "Dallas fans suck" mentality.

I do know, that there's almost never a time that I don't have to lean, lips-to-ear, to the person next to me to be able to hear each other. Rarely do I leave a game w/o a sore throat, regardless if I was standing and cheering, or sitting and trying to simply converse with my neighbors.

The Cotton Bowl was no different.

I've never been to a NFL game. I need to try to make it to one sometime soon. If I'd known we played at Chicago I would have tried to get tickets, but to late now.

Just got back from the game. I live in Maryland and made my first trip down to Texas stadium to see our season opener. Now I have heard stories about how quiet so to speak Texas stadium is - so I was going to the game already with low expecations but WOW I must say I was and still am thoroughly dissapointed. Sitting there watching the game at Texas stadium and we are americas team and we literally dont even have a home field advantage.

The fans dont even make much noise in obvious situaions like 3rd downs for the giants. Cowboy fans dont even talk trash to opposing teams fans - I mean sheesh they are NOT supposed to be welcome in our house. Now by no means am I saying we should physically harrass these people but there is nothing wrong with giving them a little crap. Like I said earlier I live in MD and I go to Fed ex every year to catch the skins boys games and I go in expecting to get verbally harrassed by other fans. I hate to say it but frickin fed ex field ROCKS and when I say rocks I literally mean ROCKS - like the stadium shakes. Now albeit they have over 91,000 fans and Texas stadium only holds about 65,000 - so hopefully when we open our new stadium it will be better. At least I can hope. Am I reaching here or are the added 15-20k of fans not going to make a difference? Because I feel this is our only hope.

I know this has been covered before because I have read posts concerning it but even expecting it to be quiet it was still surprising how bad our so called home field advantage is. Someone please help us fix this or give me reason for hope because if you ask me , if we can get our new stadium to rock it will be a HUGE advantage to our dallas cowboys.

Maybe, just maybe, Cowboys fans don't need to annoy people, yell profanities at the opposing team's fans, and consume large quantities of alcohol to show their support. Maybe they remember and appreciate how Tom Landry represented the Cowboys and they follow his lead -- with class.

Of course I prefer to drink beer, yell profanities, and be totally obnoxious but that doesn't mean everyone else has to do the same! :p:

People don't know what real crowd noise is until they have watched a football game at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Until last year I thought the loudest place on earth was in Baton Rouge. Thennnnnnnnn, I just happend to be in Seattle during the playoffs. Seattle made Tiger Stadium sound like a library. The entire stadium was like the student section at Tiger stadium...I could not think, or talk to my son, it was so loud....However, the Seachicken fans were great. Even though the outcome was not good, it was the best experience I've ever had at a football game...Even the 400 pound guy who picked me up from behind when Romo lost the ball was a good guy....That's my 2Cents..

It's not just the Cowboys fans but Dallasites in particular. Dallas is not a sports town and most of the "fans" are more interested in the scene than the game. It's just a very fake town with very fake people, you can't expect the kind of atmosphere you'd have with real, passionate fans.

Honestly, I'm nervous to go to the Buffalo game and wear my jersey. I had a guy throw peanuts at me during a Cinci game when I was like 7 b/c I had a Cowboys hat on.

I fully expect to be harrassed and threatened..

I wouldn't expect anything but politeness in Dallas.

Not that its a bad thing, but the environment in Dallas is very different.

Amazing that you would like a team that's home to such people.

What a lame generalization.

For those that are saying that true Cowboy fans are only outside of Texas know nothing. Really, get some insight first before typing something that stupid. I am from Texas and this town is full of Cowboy fans.

Also, i went to the Cowboys/Commander game last year and had this idea that the stadium wouldn’t be that loud. I left the game with a completely different perspective. The Cowboy fans were great (except the guy behind us that couldn’t hold his liquior and was head butting other fans). But that place was rocking and the atmosphere was intense. My head hurt afterwards from all the yellling.

It seems so quiet in Texas stadium sometimes that even on TV you could hear people clapping their hands when the Giants got a penalty. Not sure if that is the crowd or just the acoustics of the stadium, but it is definetly a little odd.
