I don't care about the final game last year. It's unimportant to this conversation.

However your mention of the tight game here last year is exactly why I've not written the Commanders off into some horrible 42-10 beat down.

Like I said before I'll be shocked, completely, if we win by 7 or more. Pleasantly shocked and it's certainly something I'd come on here and say "I was wrong" very happily but I just don't see this game being a blow out.

I will disagree, to some extent, that I don't think we 'survived'. You guys played extremely well but we played better. You couldn't stop TO and Romo and when it mattered, when it was time for Campbell to make the big plays to win it he wasn't able to because our defense made the play it needed to to shut him, and the Skins, hopes of winning, down.

But I expect it to be a close, good, game.

Let me explain and I will go slow so you can understand. I am only going back to the Parcells/Gibbs 2 era. The reason being is the teams we see today were built by these coaches. The players for the most part are the same the matchups are similar. I am trying to show you that the Skins personnel matches up well even with a high scoring Dallas O, which is basically the same O from last year.
Understand? The Skins are not a pushover like the mediots would have you believe.

I'll start my post by saying I'm a Skins fan and a proud representative of ExtremeSkins, just to get it out of the way early. Before Hostile or anyone else jumps down my throat, I am aware that the team I pull for originated in Boston. I am aware that our name has nothing to do with Peanuts. If my memory is correct, the Dallas franchise originated partially out of the Commanders fight song being held hostage in return for a deciding vote.

Let the record show I jump down the throats of stupid comments and not just by fans of other teams. If you don't say stupid troll stuff, you'll have no problems from me. If respect is shown, I return it.

Oh, and Barnee Breeskin composed the original version of "Hail to the Commanders," (since modified) I believe. If not composed, I know he was involved in it's creation in some way, but I didn't want to cheat and look it up. Hopefully this establishes me as a little more than a mouth breather.

The words were written by GP Marshall's wife at the time, Connie (?) Griffith. By the way, at the time the Commanders were playing football at Griffith Park. Coincidence only.

Anyway, I joined awhile ago but haven't posted until now. I like this forum in that there's actually intelligent football discussion here, much like there is on ExtremeSkins; not many fanbases can claim that. I don't like your team in the slightest, and never will, but as a fanbase, you folks are alright by me, especially compared to people from Philly.

I for one am fine with you hating our team. Just don't disrespect this site.

As to the game coming up this Sunday, you guys are favored and should be, you've earned it. Your team looks solid. I do question the spread (11.5 seems high) and why you are so confident you'll blow the Skins out. From my point of view, there was a season split last year, though the team weren't equally motivated in Week 17. However, the mid-season game, Dallas won 28-23.

The first thing you should know about spreads is thay they are set at certain points to try and generate equal betting on the 2 teams. In other words Vegas is saying in order for people to put money on the Skins they need that line. That is why lines go down. If people put money on the Skins at that line and not many put money on the Cowboys to cover, the line will go down to try and encourage bets on the Cowbosy to cover. Vegas makes their money on the vig. So fretting about the line will get you nowhere.

My question is, what has changed? The Commanders return almost every single starter from that game. Sean Taylor was alive but hurt. Our corners are the same, (I forget when Rogers went down) our linebackers are the same, and with Jason Taylor (our only major offseason acquisition) hurt, our D-Line is the same. On offense, we're returning the same QB, same RB's, same WR's, but our line will be upgraded because Randy Thomas is playing, and Jansen/Heyer is an upgrade over Todd Wade from last year.

Your coaching staff has changed for one thing. That is going to cause doubts to creep in. We added some firepower on both sides of the ball and in Special Teams returns. Neither team stayed static.

Our major change has been our offensive system, but Campbell is getting more comfortable in it, and it's certainly been more effective than the system we were running under Gibbs, at least so far.

That means it will continue? Why when that isn't true of any team or QB in NFL history? Teams have ups and downs.

I don't follow Dallas as closely, but I see the same QB, same WR's, same feature RB, same TE, etc. I don't know if you've made O-line changed, and I know you have an extra CB or two, but again, isn't it mostly the same team.

No, not really. We have a new OL coach who teaches and aggressive style of run blocking. We have a faster change of pace back and a different feature back. We got rid of a serious liabilty at CB and upgraded our entire secondary, including better coaching.

Knowing that, and knowing how these teams usually fight when they play each other, why would anyone think it will be a blowout? I won't go so far as to predict a Commanders victory. We've looked pretty good these past two weeks and I think we can get better. But Dallas has looked far and away like the class of the NFL right now, and we haven't seen a team like yours yet.

People will assume a blowout can happen when certain things align. The stars are aligned for Dallas right now. We're at home, coming off of 2 very big wins, against a team and staff who are getting used to each other. A blowout is hardly impossible despite how close the teams often do play. Blowouts have happened too.

If the spread stays at 11.5, I'd pick the Skins to cover, but if I had to predict an outcome/score, my gut tells me that Dallas comes out on top, maybe 24-20, 23-17, something along those lines. I hope I'm wrong of course, I would like nothing better than to topple you from your perch, but respect is given, and your team has earned it. If it turns out that you do win, I'll come back here and take my lumps, and hope that I can be dishing it right back when you visit our house in November.

I could care less if we cover the spread because I'm not a gambler really. I will take no moral victory from covering the spread.

I don't think we are the same team either we answered a lot of question in the off-season and least year. We adapted well to the coaching changes last year and with a full season under our belts under wades system we are no way in shape or form the same team as last year.

You know...I've gotta question that too.

The Commander fans look at 2 games from last year and imagine that's a true measure of where our teams are now. For some reason, they can't imagine how we've improved.

Well, the Eagles man-handled us in our last game with them last year. All we managed was a measley 6 points.

Ask them if we've improved.

The Packers put up 27 points against us....we struggled to stop them in the second half.

Ask them if we've improved.

We've improved at RB, TE (if that's possible), LB, and CB. We've improved the coaching staff.

There is no real weakness on this team.

All that being said, there are some things that are in the Commander favor.

1. Portis....no, he's never really thrashed us....but, at times, we've looked so-so stopping the run. If the Skins commit to the run fully, then they can give us trouble.

2. Turnovers...we've committed a ton of turnovers. Romo seems to be very careless with the ball right now. If he doesn't turn the ball over, then our victories are even more lopsided. The Commanders have been very good so far in forcing turnovers. This could be a problem.

3. Penalites....after every play, I'm just waiting to see a flag. 3rd and longs for the defense has me on pins and needles waiting for a defensive penalty.

I'm very confident with the Cowboys. But in the NFL anything can happen. The Commanders were terrible in 95'....yet somehow managed to beat our SB winning team TWICE....with HEATH SCHULER and GUS FERROTE.

You brought facts? When? All I saw was that you brought contradictory propoganda and we all already called you out on it. As far as those other two teams being light years ahead of the Skins. I don't know about the Pack but the Eagles surely are. A healthy Donovan and a healthy Westbrook is light years ahead of the Skins.

They have a better defense and a much better offense. Not to mention they are slightly better at special teams. Since you like to use last year as your crutch on why this game will go to the Commanders. Remember how Westbrook gashed your defense at Fed Ex? Yeah, i thought so.
