Looks like things are heading in that direction.Just b/c MM said "no" doesn't mean Witten isn't going to be on staff next year. The next HC will likely have to add him in some capacity.

Another HC in Waiting, and this time a HS coach?Interesting article. So, Jerry's plan was to make MM's new contract contingent on adding Witten to his staff as the heir apparent or coach in-waiting. That's why Jerry wasn't going to offer MM the 5 years he wanted. McCarthy said nope and walked.
Agreed. Only someone desperate will take this job, so it's not hard to see them taking Mr "He pulls another rabbit out of his head "Just b/c MM said "no" doesn't mean Witten isn't going to be on staff next year. The next HC will likely have to add him in some capacity.
Yeah, I cant imagine any HC with any balls at all agreeing to mentor his replacement.Clearly, the only candidate out there who will work under these conditions is Kellen. I hope he declines too.
That is a good point, never thought of that before. This is a little off the wall, but the Cowboys always have the best and most disciplined cheerleaders in the entire NFL. Why not give whoever heads that the football HC reins and see if he or she can get the same level of play from the 53 players on the field?
Jerry promoted Kellen Moore to HC after having only one year experience of coaching (of any description), so Jerry probably thinks Witten being a HC (even at High School) is more than enough experience! What's Jerry's obsession with Witten ? He's a slightly above average HIGH SCHOOL coach ! He has ZERO professional coaching experience. He's probably 5-7 years away from being experienced enough to even consider him for a head coaching job. Funny but sad thing is..... Jerry may be gone before Witten even knows how to coach an NFL team.
Jerry apparently thinks Witten is Dan Campbell 2.0......................Witten can do for Dallas what Campbell has done for Detriot.Another HC in Waiting, and this time a HS coach?
Definitely time to move on from the Jerry Clown Show if he's really planning on making Witten HC in the near future.
One more win in the 21st Century than Jerry!Other than that one SB win in 2010, what has McCarthy done to generate so much sympathy here with folks?
McCarthy underachieved his 5 years here.
Because he sees Dan Campbell in him that's ALL lolWhat's Jerry's obsession with Witten ? He's a slightly above average HIGH SCHOOL coach ! He has ZERO professional coaching experience. This is why Kellen will be hiredMcCarthy should have already been fired.
And I'm glad he said no to Witten being added to his staff, because I don't want Witten in any major role yet either...so for the Cowboys, I think it totally worked out.
It's time to move on to the next coach, McCarthy was always meant to be a stopgap...and he never made a playoff run, so he had to go (and hec, this team was embarrassed in the playoffs, almost looking unprepared).

Because witten cant get a job or experience anywhere else. Cowboys would basically hold his hand and hope he figured it out.Jerry is really going to try the Garrett thing again?
That’s beyond stubborn and into pure stupidity. What’s the benefit? If you want the guy as your HC in four years then let him gain valuable experience elsewhere, not standing on the sidelines in Dallas.
Does this guy have not even the slightest clue that what he wants to do doesn’t work??
Moore has no real reason to leave Philly. If you think about it that team is likely going to make it to the NFC Championship game or even the Super Bowl. He has another good year in Philly and there won't be any shortage of offers for him after next season. Why would you give that up to go to Dallas and deal with Jerry?Clearly, the only candidate out there who will work under these conditions is Kellen. I hope he declines too.
Jerry wants to repeat the Garrett mistake for his grand finale. Lets hope this one doesn't last a decade. What's Jerry's obsession with Witten ? He's a slightly above average HIGH SCHOOL coach ! A giant Circus with Jerry the ringmaster head Clown in charge.Clown show.
Everyone like to throw around the 12-5 three seasons in a row for a certain player with abysmal playoff performances yet here we are lol.McCarthy may have been offended. But he also wasn't achieving what he was hired for either. He had already failed. His playoff record in Dallas was putrid. That being said, I'm sure McCarthy does have some pride and it is understandable that he walked.
McCarthys tenure was definitely a disappointment. Sure they had 3 straight 12-5 seasons. But they never seemed prepared in big games and would always get out coached. They were also a heavily penalized team.Other than that one SB win in 2010, what has McCarthy done to generate so much sympathy here with folks?
McCarthy underachieved his 5 years here.
Right ......Jerry was basically asking him to forget about winning, I need you to mentor Witten for 3 years and move on. The entire setup was clumsy. I can't believe Jerry didn't bother to check MM pulse on this plan until 2-3 days before his contract expired. I'm sure Mike will tell you he would never agree with it and would have no problem telling Jerry if he had asked.McCarthy may have been offended. But he also wasn't achieving what he was hired for either. He had already failed. His playoff record in Dallas was putrid. That being said, I'm sure McCarthy does have some pride and it is understandable that he walked.
You are right about Dak's postseason but at least it's his floor. In other words, as you just admitted, he can consistently get you to the postseason and that more than be said about the majority of starting QBs but then he needs a lot of help. And no, he isn't worth $60M .......he never was but since Jerry was stupid enough to pay it, no one would have turned it down.Everyone like to throw around the 12-5 three seasons in a row for a certain player with abysmal playoff performances yet here we are lol.
McCarthy already went through this the first time around when he got saddled with Kellen Moore. This makes more sense than the narrative that Jerry fully wanted and expected MM back. I could absolutely see Jerry wanting something like this and MM being like “efffff no bro.”
