Cowboys forced McCarthy out with absurd succession plan

Jerry gets so enamored by thinking he’s got the next Sean Payton in KM, and the next Campbell in Witt. Those two guys cut their teeth in this league as coaches working up the ladder.
Also the “grooming” crap is ridiculous.

Let him go somewhere and gain valuable knowledge and experience and if he is the right guy at the right time, then hire him at that point.

It’s just insane that Jerry would expect someone to mentor their replacement…not to mention stupid and counterproductive.

Jerry is so predictable. He figures, "it worked out for Dan Campbell so ima try it wid Witt!" lol

Do we get this Jason or folicley challenged Jason?

Interesting article. So, Jerry's plan was to make MM's new contract contingent on adding Witten to his staff as the heir apparent or coach in-waiting. That's why Jerry wasn't going to offer MM the 5 years he wanted. McCarthy said nope and walked. All indications are that Jerry wasn't expecting this and it makes the whole dynamic of who Jerry hires next more interesting b/c they will almost certainly have to take on Witten knowing that Jerry wants him to be the future HC of the team.

What a mess.

What Jerry wants and what he gets are two different things. Thirty years of failure is proof of that.

.. McCarthy's playoff record is what dis him in. After that Green Bay debacle he was dead man walking.

Honestly, I stopped watching. Also first year in many I didn't travel to see them play. Will travel next year to Vegas though because they only play there once every 8 years and don't wanna wait till old man is dead.
Traveling to see the games used to be my life’s passion. The schedule release was such a big deal.

These days I have next to no desire to do so. Some of it has to do with age but it’s mostly about Jerry sucking all the enjoyment out of the institution that is the Dallas Cowboys. It’s embarrassing and I won’t even admit in elevator small talk that I’m a fan…because of HIM and his buffoonery, not because they don’t win Super Bowls.

It’s not about not winning….it’s HOW it happens. This guy continues to fail, and continues to insist his approach is a consistent winning formula and if you don’t like it, too bad.

Ha. I thought the same.

Tou PAY, or not to Tou Pay? Lotta dudes are bald, just roll with it. The Charles Grodin look didn’t really work.

He was atrocious in the booth. Interesting how Jerry’s family members stepped instantly into cushy broadcasting jobs. Hmm. Some stuck, some not so much.

Well anyway, Dan Campbell was a TE, and Witten was better, so since Campbell is winning with Lions, it only makes sense that Witten will be a better coach, right Jerry?

Especially if “groomed.” One of Jerry’s favorite words. What a clown.

What's Jerry's obsession with Witten ? He's a slightly above average HIGH SCHOOL coach ! He has ZERO professional coaching experience. He's probably 5-7 years away from being experienced enough to even consider him for a head coaching job. Funny but sad thing is..... Jerry may be gone before Witten even knows how to coach an NFL team.
He sees the success the Lions had with Dan campbell. If you'll notice he copies different teams, like New England's two tight end attack. We've tried drafting a second tight end in the second round for years and years.

This team's front office is a dysfunctional mess alright.
Fans should not expect any success from this team until our front office gets healthy.

If Witten

I can't wait for a McCarthy book. It's absurd to think a high school coach would be groomed to replace him in a few years. Plus I'm not sure McCarthy was a big Witten fan. I know Witten discussed coaching with him before, but McCarthy pretty much gave him the Heisman and said go start at the bottom. I think it's reasonable Witten could be a TE coach, but anymore would just seem foolish.

That makes no sense….sorry.

Jerry is really going to try the Garrett thing again?

That’s beyond stubborn and into pure stupidity. What’s the benefit? If you want the guy as your HC in four years then let him gain valuable experience elsewhere, not standing on the sidelines in Dallas.

Does this guy have not even the slightest clue that what he wants to do doesn’t work??
Jerry does not value coaches. He thinks anyone can do it lol

I can. :muttley:

Simple comment that’s very very true.

Anyone who thinks they can do the job doesn’t want to pay someone else big money to do it.

He also thinks he can assemble so much talent with using draft only that coaching doesn’t much matter. Good luck pal.

McCarthys tenure was definitely a disappointment. Sure they had 3 straight 12-5 seasons. But they never seemed prepared in big games and would always get out coached. They were also a heavily penalized team.

I think people are just so sick of Jerry. And it really was a dick move blocking him from the bears job if u didn't already have an agreement in place. Good for Mike for leaving this clown show
Jerry wanted payback.
