More like YOUR FEELINGS and being incapable of admitting the Cowboys screwed up.

THEY DID, by pursuing Cooks in a trade and now Beckham as a free agent.

It’s YOU that can deal with it.
Hello? They have every right to look for help elsewhere since Tolbert, Washington and Fehoko have not been able to contribute as first expected. Cowboys did the right thing to get rid of Cooper and his on/off performances on the field. Very similar to how Gregory was. Simply not worth paying $20+ million. It's not that hard to understand.

Now they realize CeeDee was having a good year because Cooper was drawing coverage
As Stephen will tell you:

CeeDee is on pace to get over 1,000 yards receiving. That's because the rest of this receiving corps has underachieved so far (except for Noah Brown), and Cooper Rush was our QB for 5 games. Things are starting to get better now that Dak is back, along with our Oline plating better.

As I showed you, the Cowboys could have restructured the contract just like the Browns did.

Schultz. Another bad decision. You’re doing my work FOR ME.

I can be happy for that record but still admit they screwed up on Cooper. One doesn’t preclude the other.

No we couldnt have as they wanted the Cap space for Gregory. You're looking at the whole situation as of now, not when it happened. They wanted, expected and budgeted for Gregory....now they could of restructured both, however, that would of put us.... $3M over CAP this year and in 2023 we would already be over the Cap by $40m (even $39.5m in Dead money if we cut them).

I presume Schultz was retained because Dak wanted him? I would of thought after spending so much on extending Dak they would want to consult him on the tools to help?

The Coop decision was based on financial considerations, a tough decision that had to be made (especially as Jerry wanted Randy).

Nobody's supporting the Jones way of running the team and where we are now was based on necessity (at the time) based on the luck that Gregory didnt sign.

Well sure. But the end result is still a better team than last year. I think the mindset they had last year was looking torwards Dak's cap hit. They can't keep pushing that money forward, it's piled up too high.

If Jerry is getting antsy about losing Cooper, they had the trade deadline to do something. They chose not to. They still have OBJ. I just don't think they wanted that 22M cap hit, and certainly didn't want to restructure Cooper.

I think that what it came down to was:

Which big money contract can we get out of to save Stephen’s hide for all of his other bad contracts?

Cooper’s ‘sin’ was not having enough guarantees - like Elliott, Dak, and Lawrence have - to protect him from being cut or traded.

What’s “not hard to understand “ are some fans’ compulsions to defend bad decisions. It’s not a requirement of fandom.

Again, a bad decision on Gregory makes things WORSE, not better. Paying Gregory, and the idiotic idea to pay $10 million- plus for Schultz further show that they don’t know what they’re doing. Give away a multi-time Pro Bowl #1 receiver do you can keep a hardly-available pass rusher and a mid-level TE.

I presume Schultz was retained because Dak wanted him? I would have thought after spending so much on extending Dak they would want to consult him on the tools to help?

Whatever ‘presumption’ you’d prefer, the decision was terrible.

It sure seems like some are trying.

But that's CAP reality. It's like the other thread on Tyron and aging Tackles, his contract means it's designed to give the capacity to cut, where are Trent Williams and Lane Johnson are going nowhere, regardless of age as there's no saving.

I don't care or am thinking as a fan. I'm thinking as a businessman who has owned 2 previous businesses, hence why I totally understand the hard but necessary decision to cut Cooper by this front office. If anyone is thinking like a fan it's some of you Cooper defenders.

But you're sounding as if you've decided to attack the Jones (which I agree most of the time is warranted), but in certain circumstances hard decisions have to be made. Most of us arent defending the Coop cut, but with the situation as it was it's understandable....especially when it became obvious that Jerry wanted Gregory (which again in hindsight was a big error).

Oh yeah, no doubt. Unlike other sports, football contracts aren’t guaranteed. So a player needs to get as much money up front as possible. Or as in Dak’s case, agree to restructure for so much bonus money that the team HAS to pay those later huge salaries, cutting players like Cooper along the way.

More evidence of the Jones’ cap mismanagement.

As a ‘businessman’, did you make mistakes, or were you ‘perfect’ like you want to make the Joneses out to be?

Bundle them all up and see the big picture of one bad decision resulting in several.

If trading Cooper’s salary was just to turn around and pay Schultz and Gregory, that’s three bad decisions.

Dak preferred Schultz, it doesnt matter about Pro Bowl's or position....the QB's wants certainly overrides your's.

They may not know what they're doing, but we are 6-2 and probably going to the play-offs with the deepest roster we've had for years.....especially as we've gone from a passing first offense, to a run first game behind a very decent run blocking O-Line..... yes luck again, but who cares how we got there, so long as we stick to it.

I certainly hope so. The results from the Chicago game are definitely encouraging, but we’ll have to see if that one week is the start of trending in the right direction or an anomaly based on playing a weak opponent.

You're probably right. I also think they believed the offense would not be that much worse. I don't believe they anticipated the defense being this good. Not paying Gregory was probably the right choice. Or better yet, the correct end result.

Weak(ISH), but held 6-3 Dolphins to a close 35-32.

And now you assume that your opinion aligns with “the QB’s wants”.

I can be happy with the record and still lament obvious mistakes. The two things are not mutually exclusive.

In turn, can you admit the passing game and offense would be more balanced and better if Cooper were still here?
