Cowboys getting a bad rap?

Hell, JJ even gives Texas a bad rap, even though he was born in LA, and raised in Arkansas.
Other fans and franchises see him as a rich prick who is meddling in sacred things of which he knows little.
They're tired of seeing his face and that dang star everywhere.
It really PO'ed everybody back when Schram and Landry used to outsmart them on a regular basis.

Now, look at last year and this off-season; Jerry's smarter, the 'Boys' strategy has again bred some success, and the envy and jealousy are back.

Feels pretty good.

We will always take more heat than other teams. That being said I have no issue with the heat we've taken from signing hardy. It's been deserved.

Most talent don't come squeaky clean and am glad the team got the players that they did these last two off seasons. RKG? No, outside of liking to play football. Talented? Hez yeah...

I was reading some articles about Ray McDonald and in the comments all the jokers were saying "Jerry is on the phone" after he was released and that he would fit right in on the Cowboys. I know the Hardy signing would bring some criticism(I didn't expect it from Staubach and Moose) but are we really THAT team now. The Raiders of old or the Ravens of the last decade.

Besides Hardy, who else would be considered bad character guys? Gregory just failed a drug test. Collins didn't do a thing wrong. McClain was cleared in the fire. Randle was cleared from the hotel incident. Brent and Spillman are gone. I don't mind having a couple loose cannon, Charles Haley types, but Garrett has worked hard to bring in his RKGs and the difference showed last year. They aren't Boy Scouts but they are guys they eat, breathe and sleep football, take coaching advice and will sacrifice for the team.

Are the Boys getting a bad rap or is it deserved and if it is, is it worth it if we keep winning?

It's just your "run of the mill" Cowboys hate. Patriots won the Supe Bowl with Brady and Blount. Brady was popped for deflating balls and Blount was caught with weed in the car. You probably could go down most rosters and find something.

The Hardy signing opens the team to legitimate criticism.

None of the other signings or draft picks deserve any criticism. By all accounts, Gregory and Collins are great guys. Gregory did something stupid, and Collins just got caught up in a mess really not of his own making.

I personally don't care about so-called character concerns--as long as they don't interfere with the product on the field. I stopped needing my favorite teams football players to be my personal heroes a long, long time ago.

Folks outside of the organization don't really understand the other major negative -- Josh Brent.
That's a big one to wrap the average rationalizing head around, but it was about grief, family, and redemption. Those are not necessary issues for a sports team to address, but it does speak volumes about the closeness and privacy and internal strength of this group, who were unanimous in their support.
The team wouldn't expect fans and media to understand, nor would they care about the criticism.

And that family thing starts at the top.

The Cowboys are a high-profile team. So anything we do - whether good or bad - is magnified 10x.

It just comes with the territory of being America's Team.

The Cowboys will always get a bad rap... everybody hates #1.
^ This. When has a month gone by without someone taking a swipe at the franchise?

On a personal note, I remember passing through Orlando International once, wearing a Cowboys shirt and cap. Who takes a crack at my fanship? Other passengers going through security perhaps?

Nope. TSA. I mean seriously. Isn't it satisfying enough providing airport security? Is it emotionally thrilling doing standup of a couple of Dallas jokes you think are funny but actually aren't? Do you really want a shoe bomber to slip by you just so you can rib a Cowboy fan every chance you get? Hey. The other passengers behind me would like the line to keep moving. You're... not... Leno...

Jay's prettier than you anyway.

Only guy I feel bad for is Collins, he as Jerry said did not bring the problem on himself he was caught up on a routine police investigation and it cost him and does not deserve the label of a problem player

While I feel bad for him, I can't feel too bad - from a selfish perspective. Had his situation never occurred, he wouldn't be a Cowboy.

TSA?

You should have said, "I can't see you. The blink from the Cowboys five Super Bowl rings is blinding me even this far from Valley Ranch."

Hopefully he gets paid on his second contract and I hope it with us again. Perfect replacement for Free or Leary.

Most here do which is why threads like this get started all the time with FANS crying about what the media thinks.

It's not the media.

Every story I read, in the comments, its other fans calling the Cowboys out as the "criminal team". It just seems over the top considering the Pats just got caught cheating again and Hernandez was given Life.

Yep thanks. Nah. I smiled and kept kicking. I was probably more concerned with him doing his job correctly than he was.

It does bother me a little.

Seeing the Pats troubles with Brady and Hernandez. The Ravens with Rice and Suggs. The Seahawks and Niners all have a lot more arrests and suspensions.

They've all won championships recently except for SF and they dumped McDonald. NE and Baltimore parted ways with Hernandez and Rice but the Cowboys decided to sign a bad character player and risk a #2 pick on one who just tested positive for drugs. The Cowboys are signing players other teams wouldn't touch.

Some in the media are calling the Cowboys out Dale Hansen did. The Pats didn't waste any time dumping Hernandez.

They don't get credit for cutting someone arrested for murder. He will never step outside of prison again , let alone on a football field. Real tough choice cutting that guy.

They signed him twice, knowing he had serious character questions. That is why he fell so far in the draft to begin with. His teammates knew he was a scumbag but they looked the other way.
