Cowboys getting a bad rap?

They've all won championships recently except for SF and they dumped McDonald. NE and Baltimore parted ways with Hernandez and Rice but the Cowboys decided to sign a bad character player and risk a #2 pick on one who just tested positive for drugs. The Cowboys are signing players other teams wouldn't touch.

You might as well test them for alcohol then also, because MJ will soon be universally legal.

Let me give you an example of how "Cowboys news" sells......."Adrian Peterson says he wants to play for Cowboys." This headline is still popping up on Facebook via unheard of news sources. If its Cowboys related, good or bad, people will click on it...

When it comes right down to it, I think lotsa teams are jealous of us for getting players "on the cheap," so to speak. It was tough enough on them when we got Hardy, then it was followed by Gregory. When La'el Collins was added to the lineup, that REALLY put the cherry atop the cake!

Obviously, not every team is equipped to handle the so-called "problem" players nearly as well as our C'boys. It's got risks involved but so far at least, the good is outweighing the risks by a lopsided margin. I say if our good fortune entails getting a "bad rap," then so be it!

The Cowboys are to sports discussions what the *****/Hitler are to Internet discussions in general (bear with me... this isn't a political post lol).

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving ***** or Hitler approaches 1 -- (see Godwin's Law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law)

Likewise, as a sports discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving the Cowboys or Romo approaches 1.

Sad, but that's the way it is.

The players are getting a bad rap more than anything.

La'el Collins did nothing wrong and got screwed out of a lot of money and a great moment. It's still at the point where people STILL believe he is a 'questionable character.' And there are even loons that believe it was all a conspiracy to get him on the Cowboys and that 'now, any player can just not want to be drafted and play on the team he wants to play on.'

Randy Gregory smoked weed. Is there a reason to be concerned he will break the league's substance abuse policy? Absolutely. But, he is far from being an unsavory character.

The only question marks have been Hardy and McClain. Hardy's case is still pending (and I am fine with the suspension). McClain was charged with 'disorderly conduct' which can be anything from spitting on the ground to swearing. And both were given bare minimum contracts.

The other problem is that we drafted a player with known gang affiliations and then gave that player a new 5-year deal for $40 million dollars before that player murdered his friend.

Oh wait, that was the Patriots and Aaron Hernandez. Silly me.

It's just another reason to hate and critize the Cowboys. I assure you, if we had a team full of philanthropists, Nobel Peace Prize winners, Eagle Scouts, War Heroes, and best selling authors of children's bedtime books, we'd still be scrutinized, critized, and vilified. Just accept it, and take great comfort in the fact that we are hated even more now, because the haters fear a resurgence is on the horizon.

They don't get credit for cutting someone arrested for murder. He will never step outside of prison again , let alone on a football field. Real tough choice cutting that guy.

They signed him twice, knowing he had serious character questions. That is why he fell so far in the draft to begin with. His teammates knew he was a scumbag but they looked the other way.

The Pats seem to get a pass from society despite the bad character players they've signed and with the cheating they've done because they win championships and are always competing for the SB. People love winners. As for Hernandez he was a great value pick in the 4th round can't blame them for taking a chance in that round despite his character issues. They signed him twice because there had been no trouble with him.

I can't see MJ use ever being allowed in the NFL regardless if it becomes legal universally.

Whatever team has the greatest love/hate factor is always going to undergo the greatest and most unbalanced scrutiny, ridicule, and prejudice.

I was and still am bothered by the Hardy signing. Never wanted a woman beater on my team, but I root for the team, not the player, and we as people are suppose to give second chances to people, so...

I was reading some articles about Ray McDonald and in the comments all the jokers were saying "Jerry is on the phone" after he was released and that he would fit right in on the Cowboys. I know the Hardy signing would bring some criticism(I didn't expect it from Staubach and Moose) but are we really THAT team now. The Raiders of old or the Ravens of the last decade.

Besides Hardy, who else would be considered bad character guys? Gregory just failed a drug test. Collins didn't do a thing wrong. McClain was cleared in the fire. Randle was cleared from the hotel incident. Brent and Spillman are gone. I don't mind having a couple loose cannon, Charles Haley types, but Garrett has worked hard to bring in his RKGs and the difference showed last year. They aren't Boy Scouts but they are guys they eat, breathe and sleep football, take coaching advice and will sacrifice for the team.

Are the Boys getting a bad rap or is it deserved and if it is, is it worth it if we keep winning?

Jealousy, pure and simple.

I'm with you but I will say there are players I do root for who carry themselves with class and are well respected. They are a credit to the game not an embarrassment to the game.
As for those who think Dallas is picked on, all I can say is the brighter the limelight is the hotter it gets. Cowboys have gotten their just dues when we have gone out and won and have been picked apart by the media when they fail. Players are going to be scrutinized greater than in some other places.

Sad, but that's the way it is.

And the ancillary rule, the first one to mention Hitler automatically loses the debate.

Remember that when folks talk about the Pats.

I have to disagree. I would love to win it all, but not if it means being ashamed of the team. And we are taking some big risks character wise lately.

I remember being ashamed of Michael Irvin and never caring for him as a player because of that. I would like our players to be the kind you want your kids to look up to. Not the kind of guy they write rap music about.
