Why are we going back over this again, Jerry didn't want to do it, we don't RUN THE OFFENSE that they run in baltimore lol so it wasn't a fit!!! Funniest interview ever, they were talking about money, and your boy jerry talks about their running game
Now who is complaining. :muttley:

The Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott and Jaylon Smith.

They should have drafted Jalen Ramsey and Derrick Henry.
Ehh that's tough to do now because when we drafted Zeke that propelled us to a playoff team. Now the goal is to win a SB and we didn't...but do we win one with Ramsey or Henry? Not sure. But Zeke did a lot for this offense and defense in that 2016 year.

Now regardless Jaylen should've never been the pick. Should've been drafted later or let someone else take him.

But Chris Jones....my goodness.

Mississipi St. was cranking out some DT's.....

Just going to throw this out there.

Just throwing it out there.....would any sane RB choose Dallas over that Ravens O-Line and complimentary QB? I know as fans we think everyone will drop anything to play for us (even that home town pull), but really he was never coming to us.

Dallas would of rode Henry into the ground all game all season. Baltimore uses the read option and uses Henry most in second half of games. Lamar creates a lot of confusion and does some of the rushing. I don't believe Henry would be anywhere near as effective in Dallas.
You're not wrong but he probably still would've done something like
250 att., 1250 yards, 10 TDs and got us into the playoffs.

This is a unpopular opinion but they handled the running back position the right way......sort of. Never pay for aging backs. Its working for a lot of teams this year. And I get it. But its been shown winning with cheap backs on rookie deals is the way to go.

Now the problem they made is not addressing the position at ALL in the draft.

This story will always be "we should've signed Henry"....even though I don't believe he would've signed here. But the correct decision should've been drafting one of these guys like Gurrendo or Irving who they expressed interest in and just didn't pull the trigger.

And most importantly.....Zeke shouldn't have been brought back or used as a 3rd stringer. That shouldn't have been your answer to running back.
This is a bad take. You absolutely can take risks on aging backs, like Henry, if the contract is right. Baltimore signed him to a two year deal. Smart deal. Minimal downside. You’ll probably get an effective RB for those two years.

Stop making excuses for Jerry’s cheapness.

I hear you but they did give Zeke money. So they failed the other way as well.

Henry came into the league the same year Zeke did. Yet Henry is still trucking people over while Zeke is a shell of his former self.
It's because Zeke put alcohol into his body while Henry was working and taking care of his.

Random comment: If the Cowboys knew that 2024 and now 2025 were going to be tight years where they chose not to go all in on the roster, why did they give Dak a 4 year deal? Like Dak or not, if you don't even intend on competing, why not just let him walk and let everything clear itself up even faster allowing the team to be in a great position in 2026 or so. If that is your plan, why not just go with it?

You're a weird poster because its almost like you don't even read my post and just reply. Nothing I said was "making excuses for Jerry"....what I said was based on past winners you can either follow the blueprint or try to reinvent the wheel. Teams typically don't win with aged running backs. Maybe this year will be different. They should've drafted Bucky Irving. He was a solid fit. That's my take. Go with Bucky and Rico. How is that excusing Jerry? Syda is the only one that can tell us now....

Its tough to say why they do what they do but I assume its the fear of Dak winning without the them. I think they that's why they hang on to guys too long. Jerry's ego.

They gave him a minimum deal but even that was too much. They failed. I'm just saying the approach wasn't terrible. The execution was. Rico and a rookie should've been the common sense move.
