The good news for the Cowboys is that they have the better quarterback.

The bad news for the Cowboys is that that quarterback is going to be under much greater pressure than his opposing counterpart.

Screen passes, some genuine blitz pickup (no repeat of Commanders game,) and 30 carries for Murray, please?

Their blitz worries me, I hope they learned from the Skins game and have checks to beat the blitz.

Hope we see those quick routes underneath, drags, in and outs to Beasley, swing passes to backs, just last year was the game where Dunbar exploded but then also got hurt.

You have to look closer to see that good balanced teams on the road handled Philly's pass rush with relative ease. 1 sack against GB, Indy and Arizona combined. All on the road. Philly has a good pass rush but they feast on bad offenses especially at home. I don't think this will be a factor at all today.

As for Dallas' pass rush. If they can at least Make Sanchez move around and make off schedule throws, the secondary will have chances to get some INTs.

This is the worst pass rushing front I've seen on this team at least since Jimmy took over. It's embarrassing to watch.

If the pass rushing front is that poor, then what area of the defense is compensating?

So far our defense has been competent overall (and an improvement over last year). So if the pass rush is THAT bad, someone else on the D must be picking up the slack?

Or is it the coaching? The scheme?

I'm just trying to understand how this is the worst pass rush we've had in 20+ years, yet it's clearly not the worst defense we've fielded during that time.

Most of the offenses/QBs they've faced have been dysfunctional while our offense has been able to exceed the opposition's point total. This defense has been quite bad but they keep fighting and get the occasional stop or timely turnover that allows our offense to pull ahead. Some of that is by design I think... Bend don't break, keep stuff in front of you and wait for the turnover.

The 2000-2002 Cowboy pass rush was pretty awful. Averaged 24 sacks per season then. This one is right up there with those teams.

I don't agree with the statement that "this defense has been quite bad". They're clearly lacking talent at some spots, and it will take a good offseason, maybe 2, to fix that. Conversely, I think it's also clear that they're well coached, and play with the type of mentality you want in a defense. Largely a no name squad, they are capable of making plays, and have done so several times in crucial moments, and I think that goes a long way.

This stat is meaningless without knowing the number of defensive snaps and situations. Probably sacks per passing play would be more relevant.

I hear ya Red, but here's my take:

1) Our OL knows that Romo could be ond good hit away from ending our season. That said, the OL will play great.

2) I expect to see a lot of underneath routs to get the ball out of Romo's hands quickly. Dez, Beasley, or Dunbar primarily will hurt Philly today. Cowboys will still be balanced, but it would not surprise me to see them "pass to set up the run" a bit today. Philly is 30th in pass defense. They blitz so much to help their weak secondary.

3) Pound that rock. They are 16th against the run and we have the best OL in the game. Our OL puts players on the injury report. Look at what they did to Seattle. For several games after they played us we didn't hear much of that "Legion of Boom!" crap. Matter of fact they are just now getting their swag back - LOL. DM29 will have 120+ today.

I'm expecting a statement win today. 34-23 - or something like that. I honestly don't fear Philly.

However even given the large discrepancy in the number of sacks, the Eagles pass defense is yielding a worse passer rating (93.0) than what the Cowboys are (91.8).

It's not all about sacks.

Someone has to be able to cover.
