Should we give more credit to Jerry and Stephen Jones on this? Or should Jerry get more blame since he has been unable to find a successful coach to guide this amount of wasted talent since 2000?
For the record, they've also won more during the regular season than any other team not named the Packers.
And the Packers were founded in 1920, while Dallas was founded in 1960.
Unfortunately there are multiple ways to add talent to a roster. It takes a combination of all of that and a good HC to being home another Lombardi. You can't get there by just drafting good.
You say that. But I think you really can. Especially if you draft soundly. Not just drafting well, but soundly.
And with some of our UDFA pickups to add to that, it can pay off. It just takes time and bringing in the right UDFAs, which has been an underrated aspect of our personnel department over the years. Romo, Kearse, Mile Austin, Hendershot, etcetera.
He was originally hired by Joe Avezzano of the Dallas Desperados who are owned by the Cowboys.
When Joe was hired by Norv Turner, Will became HC of Desperados . Will became a college talent scout for Cowboys and promoted to director of player personnel under Jason Garrett who encouraged his involvement in draft.
Yep, you nailed it.
Hiring McClay doesn't mean you pick the players. It just means you hired the person who picked the players.
Or very simply put, just because I hire the best architect doesn't mean I get credit for building the Taj Mahal.
If you don't hire the architect, you don't get the Taj Mahal.
We have been very good at drafting. You have to give them credit there- I know most won’t it will turn into “yes but there all fan votes how many all pros” but the fact is they draft very well and particularly with first round picks.
where they lack is hiring coaches and filling out the staff and allocating dollars via free agency or lack there of.
They also drafted well this year. Some of our fans are just too dense or obsessed to realize it.
