Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

Going rate of average CB's we have seen this off season coupled with what we are likely to see next year Jerry actually got in under the radar and probably this time next year we will be thinking he got a deal.
Great to have you back bro':star:

Consider:

1) I feel that this is Newman's last season in Dallas - at best.

2) Jenkins is coming off of a down year and isn't a sure commodity himself.

3) Scandrick was poised to leave next year.

What shape would the team be in losing two of their top 3 corners and having just Jenkins remaining?

I can certainly see why they did it, and considering how great the camp reports have been on him, it sets a nice example for other young players.

haha the guy had a carrott out in front of him and we just gave him the carrott.

Thats a lot of money for a guy with 2 career interceptions!

Ya know how many interceptions Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha had combined last year?

That would be zero.

No. I'm not comparing Scandrick to those two. Just don't judge corners on INT totals alone.

Yeah, but he hasn't been all that solid.

I'd say he's serviceable. He can still improve but he definitely hasn't been all that great.

I don't know what you have been watching but he was better than both newman and jenkins last year and he has been playing/practicing better this year.

I like the move and he is a lot better than just serviceable.

You guys are SPOILT

Wow ,I guess they think he can start next year.i am hoping this doesnt turn into another mb3 contract fiasco.

Wow! That's a whole lot of money for Scandrick. It looks like we overpaid. We should have been able to lock him up a lot cheaper than this, IMO

Anyway, congrats Scandrick on your big payday. Now go out and prove me wrong and earn your contract! ;)

Kinda shape to go out and pay a guy who's worth the money, I guess.

Between the draft and FA, you should be able to find suitable replacements for the parts that would be missing. Not exactly talking pro bowl calibre players.

I dunno... I like Scandrick and he seems like a <decent> player. My gut tells me he is an average nickle CB...

I really don't have a great idea of who the best nickle CBs are, however, I'd venture to say Asante Samuel (Philly) and Sam Shields (GB) would be the best.

At the end of the day, it seems to me a nickle CB should be a starting CB in waiting -- and I'm not sure Scandrick will every be capable of being a full-time starter in the NFL.

On the other hand, I never thought Tramon Williams was going to be anything decent either (he was GB's nickle CB behind Al Harris and Charles Woodson) and he ended up having an all-pro year.

Interesting stat, RS. Thanks for the little tidbit.

I agree. Wow, don't know about this move. But, obviously what I see from him on gameday and what the coaches see are not the same things. I will defer to the coaches. But wow!

This came out of nowhere, but it makes sense.

Looks like a good fit in the Ryan defense, especially with his blitzing abilities.

He might end up starting this year with the injuries, and we have locked up a starter for next year.

Could care less about the money they paid him. You have to overpay these days, even for average players. The Jones family knows how to get under the cap.

Scandrick's always been one of those guys I feel is underrated by the fan base. And I think his best football is ahead of him.

He'll slide in nicely to that starting spot next year on a team where he doesn't have to wonder anymore if he's wanted or not.

Not exactly holding him to a high standard.

If you look at PFF, both he and Alan Ball are credited with giving up 7 TDs.

He can still improve, and I think he will, but he hasn't played up to the contract that was just given to him.

i personally think scandrick would be alot better if he didn't just play the slot all the time. Also if he had safety help. Like the long ball the chargers threw to jackson. Sensy was suppose to have deep help to scandricks side and he was no where in the picture.

-if we can get a DB coach to teach him to look for the ball then he can also get more picks. Alot of times he is in good position but the pass gets completed because he doesn't look back to find the ball.

-I like his aggressive tackling and blitzing though.

agree 100 %

It's hard to believe that Scandrick would have gotten this big of contract as a free agent.

But consider the coin that the free agent corners were getting this year:

Nnamdi got $12 per year, Joseph close to $10 million. Scandrick's not in their class obviously, but neither is his pay.

Between the draft and FA, you should be able to find suitable replacements for the parts that would be missing. Not exactly talking pro bowl calibre players.

Not sure who's scheduled to be a free agent next year and I haven't looked at the draft yet, but I prefer to have one less unknown at the position. If they can draft another next year all the better as Jenkins is still an unknown commodity.

Honestly, hindsight being 20/20 and all, I would have rather seen Orlando starting next to Newman last year after the turd that Jenkins became, seemingly, overnight.

I'm pulling for Jenkins to turn it around this season (Newman too, for that matter). If he/they doesn't/don't this defense will be UGLY, ugly.

We really overpaid for a guy who isn't even good enough to start on a team with pretty bad CB play last year.

Jerry shows how bad of a GM he is again with this deal.
