Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

It's hard to believe that Scandrick would have gotten this big of contract as a free agent.

I think he would have.

Teams know they need 3 good cornerbacks, if not 4.

This has turned into a passing league. I bet the Giants would give him more right about now

haha the guy had a carrott out in front of him and we just gave him the carrott.

I had that thought as well.

Anyway, we'd heard that Ryan liked Scandrick a lot... Guess this confirms it.

I don't see why we couldn't have done this a month from now after seeing how he did in some real football games. Not sure if I like Ryan having this much influence so soon about a player he's only seen for a few weeks.

Smart move. He is a very good CB.
Slot CBs are very difficult to find and he can always move outside as well. I actually think he would be an excellent outside CB.

This will also light a fire under Jenkins. I bet Jenkins will have a great year after seeing Scandrick cashing in but I am worried about handing Jenkins large $$$ as he needs to be motivated.

I think it's a solid deal. Not breaking the bank by any means. Some are calling it a stupid move. But those who are... just think about it. If he left, then most of you would be like... "We should have inked him before he got away."
I can hear it now.

Orlando is making strides into becoming a very good CB. Not elite, but he'll be a good one!

But consider the coin that the free agent corners were getting this year:

Nnamdi got $12 per year, Joseph close to $10 million. Scandrick's not in their class obviously, but neither is his pay.

Not sure who's scheduled to be a free agent next year and I haven't looked at the draft yet, but I prefer to have one less unknown at the position. If they can draft another next year all the better as Jenkins is still an unknown commodity.

Nate Clements had a good year and signed for 5M/year for the next 2 seasons.

Josh Wilson just picked up 3 years, 13M and I'm not sure Scandrick is at his level.

Players are out there.

I'm sure Garrett signed off on it as well being he is the head coach. Just sayin.

Pretty cheap contract for a solid CB

Indeed. It amazes me that good info like this gets blasted. Oh well, par for the course.

I don't know why Ryan would really be that invested.

He's probably not looking for a longterm stay in Dallas.

I think Dallas gets him for a couple of years, max, and then he gets a HF offer somewhere.

They obviously see him as a starter next year and possibly this year. This reminds me of when they gave Ratliff a $20 million contract and everybody said ***. Now he is grossly underpaid. They must feel he is on the verge and will get the opportunity to show it this year. If he has a decent year, you will have to pay him $7-8 million a year to keep him or maybe more to replace him.

Not exactly holding him to a high standard.

If you look at PFF, both he and Alan Ball are credited with giving up 7 TDs.

He can still improve, and I think he will, but he hasn't played up to the contract that was just given to him.

For a non-factor, Newman had 77 tackles and 5 interceptions...last season.

Not sure if it is a good deal or a bad deal, that is for smarter football minds than me to decide but isn't it possible that Jerry and his staff know more about football than those who post here?

We really overpaid for a guy who isn't even good enough to start on a team with pretty bad CB play last year.

Jerry shows how bad of a GM he is again with this deal.

you must be speaking of jenkins...

I agree about the Wilson deal. That was a nice signing.

Not to mention that most dynasyties are built upon internally developed talent, and this season the Cowboys only had to resign half of the defensive line at exagerated market values as well.

I don't remember anyone saying that about Ratliff... If anything people knew right away that we got a good deal.

The difference is that Ratliff wasn't signed before he ever started. He was signed during the year after he'd already started some games after Ferguson was out for the year.

Ryan doesn't have to want to be here for the next five years to give his opinion on a player.

We just have to hope he's right.

They just said on the Dallas Cowboys website that he is now making more than Witten and Ratliff. Good for him, I guess. I just hope he still keeps that chip on his shoulder.

Travesty.

i was surprised.....25 mil is alot of money....guess i will have to see how the contract is structured.

Its safe to say.....Scandrick will probably be taking Newman spot next year. Jenkins up next.....then for the next 3-4 yrs....we have two solid CB's tied up.

We all know with how the CBA is.....someone would of thrown big money at Scandrick.

I dont think its a great deal.....but the Coaches must really like what they have seen in TC....
